Would you want to buy two Stardust from China that you will throw away within a week or two or would you want to buy one made in the USA and have it last you for months?

No way in hell if we made something like the Stardust could the quality and fit and finish be as poor as it is from China. Sometimes I see a fresh T2 and the center post is leaning to one side, no wonder the tips separate from the metal collars.

Good luck finding that at knock off prices mate.

The clone I bought is decent. It's plated brass (I think), and it cost $25 bucks. It functions perfectly, and doesn't leak, and I even made a clear tank for it out of a syringe. If they could make the exact same design using a reasonable grade of stainless steel with a polypropylene tank even at double the price I paid I'd buy several of them. As it is, I plan to buy a couple more of the cheap ones when they come back in stock.

With a genesys, the wick and coil is probably responsible for 95% of the performance. The rest of it simply isn't that critical to justify a $150 or more price tag.

If it weren't for the DID clone I'd have never gotten into Gennies, and so far it works like a charm (wick issues aside, but a 150$ feed won't fix that). Sure, it may not be perfect and the threading is a little loose, but it works and that's really all I want. If these start showing up here I'll probably end up with one, I'll pay good coin for a PV but a feed...I only have so many wads of cash to throw around and would rather it go to a reliable PV, I can always drip or use cartos but if the battery dies I got nothin.

Not real sure why the high end genny users are making a fuss.

Cheap clone, is cheap. Simple. If people buy, like the system, but want a quality device they will move up. I'd be willing to bet the percentage of people that start on a Caravela, P+, etc, is less than 5% of the community. The high end devices will still maintain value in the niche market as well.

The only real problem arises when the cost effective option provides 90%+ of the performance of similar devices. Then it's a debate. :D

Meanwhile I'll just keep drippimg along on my lil 7$ 510 atties

That's the way I see it as well. Drip like a fiend when stationary and pop a Nova on it when I go mobile. The only attraction to all these rebuildables for me is that they just look awesome. Dripping a few drops on a steaming atty is about as fiddly as this country boy wants to get.

If boutique builders cannot ramp up to meet demand for their very cool product, someone else will. The follow-on suppliers may have higher production standards, maybe lower, but for sure what they will have is a factory that can re-tool for the actual items, and a supply chain that can get it to market, already in place. This, more than any objective quality standards, will govern the prices ultimately set.

Asian-made is not automatically crap, any more than US- or European-made is automatically high-quality. Buying local doesn't necessarily mean you get better stuff, but it will be fresher (in cases where that matters, it MATTERS), your ecological footprint is a touch smaller, and if there is something amiss with the thing you bought you have a better chance of redress.

Other than those considerations, if you are buying a clone of something there's been a ton of press about, it's on you to really look at the clone and make sure it has the features you want, and is made using materials and standards you approve of. Because it is not the same thing as the original.

First off, any device that is "Genesis style" is a knockoff. Second, once I tried the chinese version, I spend a few hours looking around for a higher quality unit. You can't get them. They're either out of stock, waiting list, or pre order. And outrageously expensive for what they are, relatively simple devices. Granted, having a stainelss steel model with glass tank would be nice, but I don't need mil spec tolerances. Just give me something I can use that doesn't leak and is reasonably well made.

Not true in all cases, the iHybrid is higher end unit, has the genesis style tank with it, also has interchangeable tubes for using different batteries. And is almost always in stock, with exception of the LE's that only a limited number are made.

I'm not interested in anything that isn't variable voltage, and have no interest in grossly overpriced mechanical mods. And they're out of stock at the only place I saw them anyway.

Plated brass eh? Good luck with that.

Well maybe some US company can mass produce some, the lack of which is a problem.

Since I have an astronomy hobby I understand expensive machine work. A quality worm gear can cost a lot of money. But the freakin' precision required in a worm gear is orders of magnitudes above anything that matters in vaping. When you look at what is in these atomizers a quality one should cost $20, not $120. The problem is the man hours that goes into it vs an investment in production that would reduce the price to near nothing while maintaining quality.

I own both american made and chinese made genesis atomizers. I can appreciate the fine craftsmanship and the finer details that come from the American modders, and I do support their endeavors in pushing the technology for an even better vape.

That said, as some have pointed out in this thread, actually getting your hand on one would either be time prohibitive or cost prohibitive. The chinese made them accessible, so that ALOT more people can benefit from said technology. I don't condone piracy, this would probably apply to unpatented ideas such as the genesis style atomizer for me, but really, which is better for the vaping community? A great device made basically out of unobtainium for a handful of lucky people who may/may not have paid through the nose for it, or a less shiny device that would help a great number more of people to just nudge them, pique their interest, give them a little "aw hell, it's 20 dollars, i'll try it anyway" push towards a better vape.

Personally, I don't put too much stock into the material that the chinese use. I smoked for 16 years, and would have happily smoked for the next 16 or more, if I hadn't discovered vaping. After inhaling ALL the other crap that comes in cigarette smoke, the risk from chrome plated brass/copper is minimal/non-existent to me, and at the price point that the chinese came up with, I'll replace it at the first sign of wear.

PS: Sorry for the long, possibly run on sentences.

TL;DR : Vape on!
