I have been on and off the vaping for a few years all the while smoking. So i have decided to try make my own flavours. It could be nothing to worry about except my impatience but the eliquid has a strange taste but no flavour i used 30ml total for 3x10ml flavours (brown sugar, maple pecan and cinnamon swirl) recommended at either to or from 10%m in a mix of 200ml eliquid base pre ready at 70/30 vg/pg. Which is 5% of each flavour. No nicotine has yet been added to any of them. trangely enough for one of them a banana flavour, i got the banana flavour once i took it out and put in a commercial one. Any ideas or is it just wait. I made them approaching 2 days ago now.

Not made any juice myself yet (though it is on the cards) but it's my understanding that steeping in more or less essential to getting the flavour to permeate the base liquid - not to mention for some of the more chemically background flavours to disapate, though I may be completely and utterly talking out of my backside lol

The only part that i know of is that steeping enhances the flavour. The part that has me is does it mean that without giving the appropriate time does it mean there is no flavour

Brown sugar should be a fairly quick steep, the others should be tested weekly and could need weeks, maybe a month or two.

Some will disagree, but I find I can taste nic, even as fresh and clear as I can buy it. So juice never tastes quite right without it. I do understand wanting to see if the flavors will make a decent juice before wasting nic in them, just as long as you know there will be something missing.

I’ve been mixing for 5.5 years, and some flavors I like, some I don’t no matter what I do to them.

Sounds like you’re going about it the right way, simple mixes, small batches... you just need to shake and test. Keep notes, too. Good luck!

Thank you. As long as i am at least going about it the right way there is hope. I am just going with flavours i would like myself. It is hard to describe the taste from it. Very savoury almosy like it were a poor attempt of a tobacco flavour the latest one i have made i did a 50ml bottle and used the recommended amount of butterscotch mixed with butter pecan calculating that i will be adding in nicotine. I have not tried that one yet

You should be getting some flavor out of it. Steeping can enhance or change the flavor but if you are getting no flavor then something is wrong. May need to add some flavoring or try different flavorings. It’s tough to say as everyone’s tastes are different. It’s just some trial and error keeping your mixes small as to minimize waste. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help but good luck and keep fighting the good fight.

That is the part that is confusing me. I am tasting them from the bottle and they are sweet with the flavours showing but in the vape i am getting a flavour but it is not a tasty flavour or any of the flavours i have in them. I used in both my crown 4 and tfv12 as a means for testing

I have it up now in the general i only signed up about 30 mins ago so it took me a moment to notice i was in the wrong forum.
Lol it took me a while to get used to where everything was in here, then I kinda disappeared for a few years and only returned yesterday, so I'm still getting to grips with things again myself.

Oh and, er, Welcome to ECF lol should have probably out that in my first reply!

Haha all is good :) thank you. It may take me some time to get used to it. The only thing why did i not think to come on to a forum a lot sooner i had so many questions that went unanswered through the last few years.

Well I'll be honest with you, when I first started vaping, using an over priced ego clone with a CE5 clearomiser, I joined this site and not only was I given an extremely warm welcome, the advice I was given helped save me from making some awefuly stupid and expensive mistakes! Not only that, it also lead to me becoming the go to guy in work for any vape related queries. I don't profess to know it all and I keep recommending people join the forum, not that any of them have bothered, but either way, there's always going to be someone on here willing to give any needed advice, so I'm sure you'll get all the help you need from these guys!

Absolutely it would be tough going to know everything but knowing some things is still good. I wasn't sure what kind of mod to be getting so when i ended getting bad ones and needing to repair every week. There will always be new things and technologies that one can not know unless shown. I typically like to think i know a lot about technology but apart from what i like and knowing how to repair electronics my knowledge is very slim.

I agree, it's impossible to know everything about the wacky and wonderful world of vapes, but it's handy to have a general knowledge and/or a specialist area lol im at the point where i know what i like and im know what i want to progress to and I've researched the hell out of both lol im still crap at wrapping my own coils, but that's more of a practice thing than anything, but I do love the rebuildable world - even if it involves using prewrapped coils, anything's better than forming out an extortionate amount of cash for disposable coils! Even the owner of my local brick n mortar vape store agrees with me on that point even though he's pushing disposable coils lol

Out of interest, what set-up are you using? I've got the tesla punk 220w and a clone of the druga rda as my main setup with the wismec Sinuous V80 kit as my bacup (and a logic pro who clone piece of junk for emergencies lol)

I’m not familiar with your atties, but I hear good things. I hate to send you down another rabbit hole, but you might want to try a RDA to test. They’ve really helped me tweak my juices.

Also, I misread your first post. I thought you said you used 5% in each of three 10 ml tests.

Sometimes the flavor % given are as a stand alone. Generally I find if something works at say 5% by itself, i need to cut that by how many flavors I’m using. So 5% alone, 2.5% with one other flavor, and so on. I stay around 10% total flavoring. Too much can mute it.

That’s not a hard rule though, just s guide. If one is to be predominant and the others are just to boost certain aspects, I’ll do it more like this butter pecan ice cream- 5% butter pecan main flavor, 2% vanilla bean ice cream, 1% of another vanilla (French) and 1% of sweetener.

In the DIY, they will ask you to name the brands you use, because they are not at all the same.

I’m sure you’ll find any info you need there

I am using the uwell crown 4 at 70 watts approx. I was using the tfv12 at 220 but the gx350 broke and i wanted something smaller so i dom't feel awkward carrying a chimney around haha. I have not really tried making my own coils so i stick with the pre made ones. Most the flavoured ones i used to like i cant get them anymore so if i can make my own that would be good

Tfv12 is a beastly tank - I had the Prince which I only ever used with the 6 coil atty, the higher coils wrecked my batteries, although the flavours were epic. Couldn't justify paying £15 for the disposable coils though so I went back to using my old ijoy limitless rdta (damn I miss that!)
At the moment I've got my Druga setup with 2 tiger coils coming in at 0.37ohms which I'm running at 65w and I'm getting monstrous clouds and ridiculously intense flavour from the Dr Juice Cherry Times juice I picked up this morning.
