I’m really really trying to learn bout the benefits of making your own coils and stuff so I beg u all to please b patient with me cause all that ohms law and stuff make absolutely no sense to me even with a good ohms calculator lol.
Welcome and glad you joined.

Jonathan your Fireluke is a sub ohm tank that has a rba head. Number of wraps and diameter of coils depends on what works best in the atty and what resistance you enjoy. I would advise you buy some pre build coils and a spool of wire. If you have the funds I suggest you get a single coil rda and just continue using the drop in coils for the Fireluke for now. I'll get on the computer and link you to a glossary for vaping terms.
Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love my Firelukes prebuilt coils but I am however disappointed with the fact that they only last me bout 2 weeks then burn out quickly after. I tasted a friends rebuildable coils on his Fireluke and OMG I was sold lol. Plus he said if he changes cotton every 2-4 days his coils themselves last for months. I wouldn’t even mind just a month or two as long as I can get that great flavor. He uses something that I can’t remember exactly what but it was something like Nicro something. He told me beginning to def start Kanthal for practice. I’m just really really overall frustrated that as many questions as all y’all and many others have answered for me that I can’t even figure out some kind of easy way for me to learn everything I need to learn. I feel like a 5 yr old that started school in 9th grade lol

Dont worry about asking stupid questions. There are thosr who do it all the time, lol. All kidding aside, ask question, listen to all the different answers and sort out what works best for you. In my mind, which is a strange place btw, folks asking for the best this and the best that kinda irritate me because there really is no best anything. I have a juice i like and i think its the best, someone else hates it. You have a mod or tank set up you think is best and somebody else hates it. So with that out of the way, lol, welcome and we will try to help you along the way of vaping excellently.
Thank you very very much for that true statement. That makes me feel even better I know exactly what u mean bout the what’s best with this and best with that questions lol. That’s actually how I ended up here on accident. I was googling those very questions bout my tank and coils and I didn’t c the slightest comment referring to what I asked then I clicked this site looking through previous questions and I almost bailed back out cause I was so afraid someone would laugh at my questions and say damn he has got to b an idiot lol. I’ve made 20 friends n less than 24 hours and I have all been the exact opposite. I’m blessed to have stumbled n here with u all. I bought an Ohms Calculator app that converts electricity ANY way it can b converted to help with my builds. Unfortunately I don’t know what most stuff means like amps and milliamps. How can I just look at a coil and say well ok it’s reading .35 ohms so it’ll run at this Watts comfortably ? How do I convert ohms to Watts I guess is what I’m asking lol. I know there’s gotta b some kind of easy reference to remember

Ni80 Nichrome is what you are looking for. Kidney Puncher site has good prebuilt coils and wire. Prices are reasonable and the wire is good quality. Subscribe to the newsletter for discount and coupon code alerts. BTW I use the .25 coil in my Fireluke and get 4-5 weeks out of them.

You really don't need to figure out the watts with a regulated device. Besides watts preferred will vary depending on wire mass. Look for discussions about heat flux, understanding that will help.

I absolutely love that .25 coil. That’s actually what’s sitting in mine right now until I grow my balls enough to build my first coils lol. I had my.25 coil n it 2 weeks to the day and got a little burnt hit and stopped using it cause I thought that was it for it. Is it possible that may have just been a warning for chain hitting it right then ? If that’s possible then hell it may actually have some life left cause I set it aside right then and just swapped tanks

The reason I ask is cause like when u buy almost any prebuilt coil for almost any tank they all say .25 ohms the suggested Watts are basically all the same, I was thinking they must all know that at particular ohms it needs to b at certain Watts kinda like a guideline. I’m trying to figure out how to explain what I’m thinking. Kind of like with how there’s a formula scientists use to convert temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius and vice versa so if I make a coil and it’s lets say .25 ohms so I multiply 25 x 4 and I can run it comfortably at 100 Watts. That actually sounds good since it is basically what it’ll run at but I know that’s not how they figured that lol

Hi everyone I’m jonathan. I’ve been vaping on and off since the first Blue Ecig came out. I have only bought prebuilt coils that tell u what to run them on til now lol. I’m really really trying to learn bout the benefits of making your own coils and stuff so I beg u all to please b patient with me cause all that ohms law and stuff make absolutely no sense to me even with a good ohms calculator lol. Thank u all for ur help and advice and I hope I can make friends here and not enemies cause I’m a social butterfly lol
Hi Jonathon. I am hoping to learn about coils and diy juice as well. You have come to the right place. Folks are super friendly and very helpful. I’m a newbie so still learning. I have found that as long as you are respectful members will help you with anything.

Hi there my friend. In just 1 day of making friends with everyone I have met I already feel like family with u all here. I wish I would’ve gotten over my fears about asking for help a long time ago now lol. I’ve never in my life felt the love anywhere like I do here and I’m very very proud to say I know I can come here for vape help or just to stop n and say hi and maybe tell a dirty joke from time to time lol. Just kidding I’ll save the dirty jokes for a while cause I don’t wanna offend any of my new friends. It’s took me 1 day here to understand what I’ve been trying to learn for years on my own......trial and error is the best and potentially funnest way to learn. Anything dangerous that can happen u will find out from everyone before u try it lol. Everyone has given me the best dos and don’ts possible so I can begin trying to find my sweet spot and if I can assist u at all please ask and if I don’t know I promise I’ll dang sure help u find it out ❣️❣️❣️

No need to be nervous. We all know that the only dumb question is the one that doesn’t get asked. Reminds me of the woman who always cut off both ends of the ham because her Mama did. Turns out her Mama did it because she only had a short pan☺️

ROFLMFAO I have never heard that saying before but I got it immediately. Thank you for the comforting words. I already feel like I’ve known u all for a while now. I been trying to go to bed a while but I am really enjoying the great company so I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve lol. I’m so excited, anxious and possibly a little nervous bout trying my first build tomorrow but I know if I have questions I can drop u a line and u will help as much as u can. Not to mention if it goes well I just know the difference in a prebuilt vs home built is gonna b incomparable lol. Good night my friend sleep tight. If I don’t have questions tomorrow I’ll at least give u details bout what I did, used and whether or not I burned the house down doing it lol

When chain vaping lower your watts a bit when the coil isn't cooling down between hits and open the af up more.

If you get 2 weeks from any storebought coil, you did good. Ive never used mesh so i cant speak on its performance, but i do know that i can make coils from wire and with proper maintenance, i can get a lot of use from them. Im going on a month so far on a pair of twisted 26ga kanthal.

Hi and welcome!

I only recently started building, and the folks here have been incredibly helpful.

I started with pre-wound coils, and quickly saw how easy it would be to just wrap a wire around a tool.

I liked .5 ohm drop in coils, so I tried the pre wound and Home made at the same resistance at first. Then I tried a couple lower ones, to compare.

I like the pre made ones because it gave me the option to learn this in stages. When I felt confident that I could install and wick okay, then I learned about wire and calculating resistance.

It’s not rocket science but I did find it intimidating at first. And now? Well if I can do it, I’m sure you’ll have no problem!

Hell I don’t even know the difference in the cottons.....SMH

Cotton is one option for wicks. Three brands of cotton are often used:
  • Koh Gen Do
  • Muji
  • Cotton Bacon
Cotton Bacon is made for vaping, while Koh Gen Do and Muji are both Japanese brands of cotton facial wipes that people have found to work well. Koh Gen Do is my personal favourite, but you can learn more about the differences in the Wick and Wire forum:

Wick and Wire

Rayon is another option for wicking, and you can read about it there too. Wicking is a major factor in how well your coil works, and experience is the best way to learn about it. Take a look at the forum, watch a few Youtube videos, then try it yourself. If you're a normal human being you'll have a few wicking failures at first, but it won't take too long before you figure out how much wick to use and how to use it.;) Feel free to post pictures of your disasters to the forum, and people will offer tips for improvement.

How do I convert ohms to Watts I guess is what I’m asking lol. I know there’s gotta b some kind of easy reference to remember

Unfortunately there isn't. The problem is that there are an awful lot of different ways to make a 0.25 ohm (or whatever ohm) coil, and they'll all work best at different wattages. You can use a lot of wraps of a low-gauge (thicker) wire, or a few wraps of a higher-gauge (thinner) wire to get the same resistance. The low-gauge coil would then have a lot more metal in it and need more power to heat up than the higher-gauge coil.

One thing you can do is play around with the Steam Engine site to get an idea of how things work. You pick your wire type, your ID (inside diameter) and your target resistance, and the site will tell you how many wraps you need and whether it's likely to work well.

Ultimately, the way to pick your wattage for a particular coil is to start low and gradually increase your settings. Keep going higher until you're happy with the vape. Then increase it a bit more to see if it gets better. Once it starts getting worse, go back down to where you liked it best. That's the right wattage for your coil.
