Initial impressions:

  • Ridiculously easy to make. Cut the top off the bottle, punch the bottom and done.
  • Not so easy to fill without making a mess because the spot where the carto's punched breaks the seal when you slide the bottle over it. There's probably a better way to fill it than in the video, though - I'm thinking filling from the bottom would work better.
  • No end caps so it should be pocket-friendly. I wouldn't sit on it, but the bottle seals *very* tight on the carto. It ain't gonna move unless you want it to.

Any chance for a filler port?

Nice job and review!

:)

No chance with my leather punch but poking a hole in the thing shouldn't be too hard. I think next time I fill it I'm gonna try filling from the bottom - that should work. I do like the fact that this thing holds about as much as a 1 1/2" syringe tank and is a fair bit smaller in diameter.

Thanks Wizard, that is the video that I was referring to. Mine is still working just fine. The really nice thing, besides the cost, is that you won't have to worry about rubber breaking down and giving you that nasty taste. I have quite a few of those bottles left over from ordering samples over the past year. I wash them out and save them for mixing. By the way, I also found that removing the adhesive from the stickers is relatively easy. I just leave the rubber stopper in the open end and put a round toothpick in the hole, and another round tootpick, or the .... plug in the battery end, and hold it under hot tap water. As the carto gets hot, the glue softens. Then rub vigorously with a towel or wash cloth and the glue comes off pretty easily with no chemical residue to worry about. Takes a few times under the hot water, but works well

As a follow-up, I got some Smoktech 3.2 ohm cartos in and have made a couple syringe tanks with them. I've only gone through about 5 Boge 3.0's in syringe tanks, and only one is still running well, while another one stopped wicking completely after my second tank fill. The other three didn't even last me a full tanks worth of juice before they stopped wicking.

A couple of things that I noticed between the Boge and Smoktech cartos:

  1. The filler material on the Boge's just don't seem to be a good pack and don't have a consistent look to them. When opening a fresh one and looking down from the top, the material often has several frays sticking out above the pack line. With the Smoktech's, the material has a very tight pack, and sometimes a few frays sticking up, but nothing like on the Boge's that I currently have.
  2. I use a syringe for the initial fill of my cartos. On the Boge's, the syringe is met with resistance going down between the filler material and the sidewall, and always ends up snagging. Invariably, I always end up with the syringe pulling a string or two of filler material out with it. With the Smoktech's (both the 3.2 single and 2.0 dual coil), the syringe glides down between the filler and the side wall very easily. I have yet to have the syringe pull any strings of filler material out on the Smoktech's.
The wicking on the Smoktech's is awesome. In fact, on the one Boge that is still running, I had to create my hole a little larger than I had previously. I ended up creating a hole in my first Smoktech 3.2 the same size as the one in the Boge, and it floods. Punched a second one with my usual hole size, and it has been wicking great. In creating the holes, I use a saddle valve and turn slowly until I hear the pop, then twist the handle slightly less than 360 degrees. I create one hole on the single coil, and two holes opposite each other on the dual coils, and both are running great. Time will tell on the 3.2's how well they hold up, as I haven't gone a whole day yet.

Why do you think you need 2 holes for the Dual Coil? And where do you put them?

I tried with just one hole on the dual coils (Mega XL), but they didn't seem to wick fast enough, and ultimately had a big drop in vapor and flavor if I chain vaped. Adding the second hole fixed that for me. Not sure if it factors in, but I'm also using 60/40 VG/PG juice. As for the placement of the holes, they are exactly opposite each other just above the plunger. They work really well, and I haven't had any flooding or leaks.

Thanks for the reply. I will try 2 holes and see what happens with the DC carto. I put in 2 holes in a single coil carto the same length as the DC and it flooded and gurgle and I couldn't use it unless I covered on of the holes. So it seem funny that 2 holes in the DC wouldn't do the same thing. Maybe its the way they wrap the DC coils inside the carto. I use 70pg/30vg. so your juice is allot thicker.

Actually, now that I think of it...I had a DC I just retired as the flavor had dropped a lot, and it has only one hole. But I forgot I was using 70/30 PG/VG like you are. So I'm pretty sure I just need that extra hole due to the higher VG. I haven't tried 70/30 PG/VG with two holes, since that was the only DC I had that juice in.
