long before the health thing was forcibly rammed down the throats of UK smokers "cost" was the main reason for giving up the habit.. younger folks might find this hard to accept.. but "smoking" hasnt alwasy been seem as a killer anti social habit.. at one time smoking for adult males at least was the norm..

this just left the high cost as the main reason to quit.. and it was a high cost.. if i still smoked 60 park drive a day as i used to do many years ago my smoking costs would be £150 a week..

i never gave up but i did minimize my costs over the years.. the habit still lingers with me.. my heavy e smoking costs are now not much more than a tenner a week. currently wicked dont fit my budget.. but its good stuff and i aint gonna say its over priced.. simply like a lot of things in life.. it dont fit my budget..

Just a thought though ....If your hooked on super high nic carts and the goverment were to ban e-cigs next week.... where would you go to get such a high dose on nic if you cant get them in the shape of an e-cig ....My thoughts are you would go back to smoking ...But that you would smoke more to get the high nic hit .... I might be wrong but its just a thought.

well if there banned your either give up go on nrt or start smoking again
its a simple as that!

Well, I reckon Rusty meant where would you get an equivalent strong hit from.

My hubby inhales cigars (the small-ish ones). Not recommended, but it'll do.

Thing is, if e-cigs are banned I may end up doing the same (or end up going back to smoking a pipe and inhaling) 8-o

what rustys says is wrong high nicotine carts are not higher than real cigarettes.. 18 mg was know where near as strong as a cigarette if it was stronger why was it attached to most peoples mouths permnently ask ned hehe now 36 mg is similar to a cigarette 15 puff and your done the nic content in juice is not really any higer than a cigarette i dont know where rustys got this information from.

probably cos half the thing dont work kit.. he he

but in theory if 1 ml of 36 mg liquid really does contain 36 mg of pure nicotine.. thats 720 mg of nicotine per 20 ml bottle..

now if a real cig contains 1 mg per cig.. they vary but some do.. that would be the equivalent of 720 fags in that little bottle..

or 36 packets of twenty cigs.. this is all based on the "IF" word..

but i get thru nearly 3 ml per day.. for round figures lets say a bottle would last me seven days.. or the equivalent of 36 packets of real cigs.. or over 5 packets of real cigs per day..

that would be 100 1 mg fags per day..

which kinda suggest 1 ml of 36 mg liquid is worth about 33 real cigs.. it all depends on how strong the real cigs are..

i would guess 100 real cigs a day sounds way over the top for me..

i did smoke half an ounce of rolling tobacco per day.. i need to find out the nicotine content of the rolling tobacco.. something i dont know..

but this also equates with one hell of lot of mini carts per day.. 3 ml per day of liquid consumption is high as well..

we also dont know how much nicotine the body absorbs either from real cigs or e cigs.. but100-ish real cigs per day dosnt sound right out for me..

of course with the more normal 18 mg liquid it would need 6 ml per day to reach these figures..

a 100 real cigs a day... hmmm..

ps.. whoops my figures are wrong.. he he.. time for another go.. a rewrite..

On my Samson Zware Shag (which is too harsh, even for John) it says that nicotine content depends on cigarette thickness and type of rolling paper (of course) but varies from 0.9mg (5.2mm, thick paper) to 1.9mg (7.2mm, thin paper).

Mind, I think Golden Virginia is considerably milder.

But yeah, we wouldn't know how much of that is absorbed when smoking a rolly vs. vaping. It also depends on the individual user: do you heave in the smoke and hold it or do you occasionally just puff on the thing ;)

This report says that on average there is 1.27mg of nicotine in a Golden Virginia rollie (I think). - http://www.advisorybodies.doh.gov.uk/scoth/pdfs/fcsa_report_final.pdf

I used to smoke prison sized rollies and once counted about 40 per half ounce.

So Trog, if you smoked 40 x 1.27 your daily nicotine dose was 50.8mg per day. That equates to 1.41ml of 36mg juice or 2.12ml of 24mg juice or 2.82ml of 18mg juice or 4.62ml of 11mg juice. According to the maths, to replace your tobacco nicotine intake using 3ml of juice you would need to use 17mg strength juice.

That of course assumes that the nicotine is directly comparable using both delivery techniques which I doubt. Who knows how much we actually absorb into our bloodstreams with either method.

Hi Jorge, welcome to the forum.

I haven't used 36mg juice yet but this is what I'd do:
25% Wicked
10% LorAnn candy flavour
10% distilled water
55% glycerine and/or propylene glycol

Just put your ingredients in a bottle and shake (the bottle, not yourself). Don't make too much to start off with in case you don't like it.

That would make a 9mg eliquid which is fine for vaping a lot. Just change the proportions of Wicked if you want a stronger or weaker mix.

LorAnn candy flavours are concentrated so if you use other food flavourings you'll need to add more to taste.

the problem with nicotine per roll up cig kate is they can vary massively in size.. i used to roll very thin ones.. i got fifty out of half an ounce.. its possible to only get twenty depending on how they are rolled..

do u know the nicotine per weight figures.. i got the maximum out of my half ounce.. minimal wastage.. i do the same with my e smoking..

ready mades have a lot more wastage.. people smoke differently as well.. i would like to know the nicotine per weight measure thow.. just for comparisons sake.. the 100 a day figure sounds way high.. but it might be that i am needing more.. i might be getting twice the nicotine dose i was getting.. its possible..

my nearly three ml per liquid consumption is based on economical use.. i dont waste the stuff.. i am currently smoking a mix of wicked 36 mg and flue cured 24 mg..

You're right Trog, they all differ in size, the best I could find was the nicotine level for an 'average' roll-up. It's probably close to the levels you were getting but, of course, it's not an accurate measurement. I'd guess that give or take 10mg either way to compensate for inaccuracy and you should be close to your previous consumption. That would make it between 40.8mg - 60.8mg.

I didn't find any information on nicotine per weight of tobacco but I didn't spend much time looking to be honest. One of the problems with measuring nic per weight is that no matter how frugal you are there will still be some left over tobacco in the .... that isn't accounted for. To be accurate you'd have to weigh the wasted tobacco and compensate for that weight not being smoked.

There are all sorts of variables to take into account when comparing smoking to esmoking. If you put a cig out (as happens frequently with roll-ups) apparently the nicotine crystallises and changes composition. We then relight the cig and smoke the crystallised nicotine. I don't know how this affects potency. We don't know if burning nicotine makes it more or less potent than vapourising it. We don't know how pure or potent the nicotine in tobacco or eliquid is to start off with. We don't know how much the other additives in cigs or eliquid react with nicotine to increase or decrease physical absorption.

Another difference is that when smoking a lot of smoke does not get inhaled so there is a certain amount of nicotine in a cig that's being measured and accounted for but isn't being inhaled. I think we inhale most of the vapour from edevices because the vapour is only produced when actively inhaling.

So I suppose the best we can do is to make educated guesses when we compare smoking and esmoking. Looking at the maths though, I worry that some of us might be getting more nicotine in our bodies than when we were smoking and we don't realise it.

Apparently there is an optimum level for nicotine in our bloodstream and it's not massively high. Anything over that level doesn't add anything to the nic effect until you get overdose symptoms. I'll try to find that research again, it made me realise that there is no point in vaping high levels of nic. If it's true, over a certain level the pleasant effect is psychological only.

this is just me after many years of nicotine addiction.. but dont really get a smoking "high" any more.. it could be said and has been said about alcoholics.. they drink to feel normal.. perhaps the signs of a true addict..

all i can say is "a feeling of something missing".. this i think is what happens when i get enough vapour but not enough nictoine..

to keep this "feeling" at bay i am now consuming a relatively large amount of high strengh e liquid..

interestingly i have some more normal 16 mg stuff arriving.. if the feeling of "something missing" comes back as in theory it should i might be a little wiser..

i certainly cant really increase my liquid consumption or vapour production..

trog

ps.. but if we assume 50 mg to be in a half ounce of rolling tobacco.. everything else being equal the figures suggest my need for nicotine has gone up..

I know what you mean about the 'feeling of something missing', I think I'm similar, I don't notice it too much unless I get fed up, bad tempered and restless.

I'd be interested to know how you feel on the 16mg eliquid, it will be good if you can reduce your dose without negative side effects.

Of course, I don't need to remind you of the placebo effect of taking higher doses ;) From what I can find out ... so far ... a need for a high dose is psychological. Not that that is necessarily the truth, just a theory I've come across.

Good luck with it, please let us know how it goes.

Pillbox kindly sent me some complimentary Wicked and I've been trying it out.

It's 36mg coconut and comes in a well labelled brown glass bottle with dropper. The label has a warning, ingredients and directions for use.

I vaped some neat yesterday and after a while I realised I was getting too much nicotine. Usually I vape with medium or low nic juice so the Wicked is over three times more potent than the stuff I'm used to. My heart was fluttery and I was pretty buzzy. I had trouble getting to sleep and had some bad dreams. So I wouldn't recommend using it constantly in the way I do, it's probably enough to vape for a few minutes and put it down for a while in the same way you would have breaks with cigarettes.

The taste isn't much like coconut really, it's not very sweet and has a harsh hit and aftertaste. Not to my liking, I prefer smoother vapour but I know some people are looking for that effect, it does give that kick some folks crave.

It's great for what I wanted it for, I mixed it into some diy juice in proportions of about 20% Wicked, 20% LorAnn flavouring, 15% distilled water and 45% glycerine. That makes a 7mg, low nic juice that I can vape constantly. Very nice it is too, the Wicked has enough harshness to add a slight roughness to the vapour, just the right amount for me to be enjoyable. I've been using it all day and am liking it.

This is great for me, a good concentrated source of nicotine that won't overwhelm the flavour of my home made juice. Thanks Pillbox, I'll be getting some more from you when I run out.

awe , dosesnt taste alot like coconut..shame , i know its subjective and that , but was hoping it would have been a nice sweet 'Bounty' like flavour. His Franc Pipe is real sweet.
I have noticed though that the flavour/taste is alot stronger in the 36mg i have compared to the 18mg Franc pipe i've got.
Still, thanks for the info Kate
