Staying in one this weekend, can I vape inside or will it set off a smoke detector? Anyone know?

There are two different types of smoke detectors. One of those methods will go off due to vapor, and one will not. The majority of smoke detectors actually use both types of detection, which means that vaping can set them off.

When I started vaping, I ran a test by taking my smoke detector off the wall and blowing vapor at it. Casual vaping (and casual cig smoke) doesn't set it off, but if I vape heavy and blow right into it, vaping will set it off.

That being said, as long as you aren't blowing big clouds right into the smoke detector, I doubt you'll set it off.

If they do go off, make sure your vaping stuff isn't out in the open and tell them "I don't know what happened. I don't smoke." If they persist tell them "Do you smell smoke? If I had been smoking, you would smell it in the room".

I wouldn't be worried at all about vaping in a hotel/motel room. If it's a non-smoking room, then you are still ok, because it doesn't say "non-vaping". :) Think of it this way, if you vape in your room, and it sets off the smoke alarm, then you can compliment the hotel and sleep comfortably, knowing that you are SERIOUSLY safe in that room!
I have vaped in hotel rooms all over the place, and never set off a smoke alarm.
Lastly, when someone comes to investigate, should you actually set a smoke alarm off, the room won't smell like smoke, so you're all good.

Good move, EZ...

There is a new ECF policy with regard to reprinting TOS violations when quoting them. The repeater who quotes the TOS violation shall face the same penalty as the original poster. I have expected this for some time. So when you see this sort of thing, notify the poster (and anyone quoting them) so they can fix their own mistakes, and make the Mods lives a bit easier.
