Zenesis day one report card

It seems that people are generally happy with their new PVs, and that makes me really happy...

Behind the scenes and somewhat in the thread a few concerns are popping up and I generally dislike hidden details that can be relevant to all concerned, so I am going to address them in public. It's better this way.

Concern number one... A few people are reporting minor finish flaws on their PVs.

What's happening: when the threads were cut in the bodies, the lathe collet seems to have left some lines in the tube and these were neither expected or acceptable in my opinion. I want the PV to look like it belongs in a jewelry store. I sorted through the tubes once these were discovered and removed the ones I discovered so I can get them refinished. It seems I missed at least a few, because so far I have been notified by two people that these minor lines are visible. It's possible there are more in the mail with this flaw.

What I'm doing about it: I have instructed the people with this issue to use the PV until I can send them a replacement next week. Once they have their new PV they can send the blemished unit back to be reworked.

Concern number two: The switch on the mini has a shorter throw and better feel than the standard.

What's happening: As I explained earlier, the ability to fire both batteries was an issue and I put together a solution that I hoped would solve the problem. As it turns out, this is proving to be an inelegant solution. It is not my desire to provide you with excuses and less than perfect execution of a flawed design, but I hoped I had this solved without causing further delays.

What Im doing about it:I've built a prototype already of a design that works much better, and when I am in Chicago for the vapefest I will meet with the shop to discuss the changes to the design of the switch button that will solve the issue entirely without it being a workaround. The throw will be a little longer than the mini... It needs to be... But the switch will have a slightly longer post removing the need for the spacer and a tighter fit to the sides of the threaded section to provide a better action. As soon as I have the parts in hand I will be providing a zero cost upgrade to all that need it. I expect the parts to be available in April assuming there are no production delays. PVs will continue to ship with the original design, and all parties involved will get the free upgrade.

Issue number three: the included wicks won't fit in the wick hole.

What's happening:The wicks included are larger than the hole. This is a function of the process of shipping the wicks soaked in solution... It causes the wicks to swell a bit and make them appear to not fit.

What im doing about it: I was planning on covering this issue in the wick and coil video I was planning on making. In this video I plan on showing the complete atty setup procedure using premade pre soakedm wicks. I hoped this was going to be done before shipping, but I want to get PVs done first. I will make the video this weekend.

Issue number four: Some drip tips don't fit.

What's happening: Drip tips are designed to fit 510, 808 and 901 atomizer tubes. In the design of the top cap, I measured a LOT of the cartos and attys on the market and I selected the hole size based on these measurement. This is a function of striking a balance. Many genesis attys such as the line have had the same issue because we are not connecting to an atty tube, we're connecting to a machined metal part that must have a hole drilled that is a standardized size. There is no exact drill size available that is the exact size of an average carto tube.

What im doing about it: any tips supplied by Kcos can be turned down to fit. If I enlarge the hole then many of the current drip tips will fit to loose.

So all in all if has been a fast paced day. Most people have sent PMs saying they are pleased... A few are not as pleased, but we will get to a solution soon.

As I've told these folks in PM, "if you're not happy, then I'm not happy."

Last but not least... My day was crazy, I was in and out of meetings all day... When I went to ship I missed the post office by 45' minutes. These will ship time with the batch that's going out tomorrow.

That's all I have to repot at the moment!

My sincerest apologies to you all!

These will give you an idea of what various DTs look like on the Zenesis Standard.

For anyone interested in using squeeze bottles with a luer lock blunt needle on it: The 14 gauge needle is too large. The 16 gauge needle fits, but is snug. The 18 gauge needle fits perfectly and is still large enough for your thicker juices to be dispensed through it. 100% VG does go the 18 gauge needle, but slowly. You will probably want to thin 100% VG with distilled water or PGA to thin it a bit if you want to use an 18 gauge needle.

I just put some 100% VG in a bottle and tried both the 16 gauge and 18 gauge and the 16 gauge works well without thinning the juice, but the needle is a snug fit in the hole. It does work though!

Mini 0100 is home. I am a binary/hex # geek, so I really like the number! Overall I am very impressed with the PV.

I wear reading glasses when dealing with my wicks & coils and got a good look at the finish with them on. Mine had what I figure were very minor chuck marks, but couldn't see them with my eye site unless I had glasses on. I polished the body with simichrome and it cleaned it up, so they were very minor. The inside of the batt tube had cutting oil in it and I found this when test fitting a battery and noticed it got covered in oil. I had already started test firing it with dripping and then filled my tank with 80/20. It wasn't wicking well though with 80/20 in it. So I decided to pull it all apart and clean everything once over and replace the wick and coil. The wick did not want to come out and tore some in the process. I got it cleaned up, but none of the #400 wicks fit back into the wick hole, so I guess they really swelled a lot. No sweat, I rolled my own wick and coiled it back up. It is broke in now, wicking well, and is doing great.

Great job Zen~ I am happy.

I'm glad you're happy... but I'm not!

The Machine Oil issue will be on my report card for tonight... you're not the only one that has experienced that problem... A thin coating of oil on the inside of the tube remained, and the vibration of shipping seems to cause it to come together to become a pool of oil in the tube... when you slide in the battery it comes out wet.

A paper towel solves that, but it's not acceptable for me to ship them needing a clean-out and after today's shipment which already went out nobody will experience that issue again... and I'm sorry.

The wicks will fit when rolled back down to the correct dimension, and I'll cover that in the video I'm doing this weekend.

It's all good Zen~. I am only giving you constructive feedback so you can get this 100%. I honestly am really happy with it. Though I am anxious to see what your approach is towards the wicks. I tried to take one of the wicks and tighten it up around a needle i use for making all my wicks, to no avail, so I just rolled a new one. I found it easier to deal with dry unoxidized mesh, then the wicks I got with the PV. I considered trimming them down some also... but didn't. I am concerned about the wicks because there are now a lot of people new to genisis type PVs and making the wick (though not hard) seems to be the hurdle for many.

I'll have to put up some obligatory pictures later after supper.

OK so you know those 3 new IMR18650 AW and the 2 IMR18500 AW I bought, that all got delivered the same day from different sources, that I tried to charge for the first time when my pila charger got here.

0 volts, red light goes balistic when I put them in the charger, what is the probability of getting 5 batteries from 2 different sources and all 5 of them being dead? I was betting on less then 5%.......well if you are me it seems like it is 100%, and how much do you want to bet Nhalers and Empiremods say no refund no exchange no replacement. So woot my Zenesis might arrive next week, but I won't have batteries until next month if they don't replace them.

Seriously they never were charged, I didn't even put them into a mod until after the charger, First I put them on the pila and the flash red lights go insane, I reset the charger and still red lights going insane. I put them on a trustfire charger and the light turns green???????????? I put them back in the pila and they are dead. Multimeter says zero.......................WTF am I supposed to do........this sucks.......

I sent both companies emails about the situation.................I am really not happy, yes I waited until I got a new multi meter cause I didn't trust my old one............

That's terrible, Karma! Hopefully they will make it right for you. If not, go to the supplier complaint thread and complain. That usually gets things done when they know ECF is watching.
