One more thing I should mention is patience. Don't be tempted to just rip out the coil and start again. Take it from someone who didn't follow this advice![]()
I've made nearly a dozen wicks and have wrapped twice that number of coils. Some of this was because I wanted to see how different widths of wick worked and some was just to practice wrapping coils. However, a goodly number were because I'm an impatient son of a b!tch and am perpetually convinced I can do it better.
What I've found is that basically any wick width and any coil will work if you take the time to A) let the wick break in; B) let the coil break in and C) check for shorts and then, after you've removed them, leave the damn thing alone
