The only blue county in Texas!
Got a link? I have no idea what that is!

Mark-10 - Red Sky Mods

It's a wooden box mod with an inset tank well. I have a couple and I don't want them to become obsolete but I can't see myself going back to tanks and cartos!

And on another note, congratulations on 1 million views and counting! I, for one, am grateful that you decided to build simply the best APV available. You've made my vaping life so much better and that is no small thing!

And - Happy Father's Day to all of you dad's out there. Hope your day is filled with thoughtful gifts and quality time with your spawn. :)

morning everyone.

Its funny, ripple and dirty harry beat me to the punch in term of a post I have been thinking about making for a couple of days.

Since they started it, I thought I would chime in.

I have noticed both on this thread and on others a similar thing. I have perhaps a slightly different take on the "fanboy" mentality" but with some similar ideas.

Nobody is a bigger fan of the Zenesis products than I am. I think I have "bellied up to the bar" in terms of how much I have invested here. I often feel so passionate about Mike's products and want to let everyone know how wonderful they are and feel in my heart, that I want everyone to own one. There has been more than one occasion, where I literally thought about sending one of mine to someone who has been waiting patiently, because I want them to experience the joy of using and owning one of these devices.

I currently own several other of the well sought after devices, and for me, the zenesis still beats them in terms of the overall package. I will continue to look at and perhaps try other devices, but have yet to find one that matches the zenesis in terms of vapor production, flavor, build quality and ease of use.

I have had some concern though about my role and our perception as a member of this group. What I mean is that I too feel like sometimes, we do turn others off with our over excitement. I think some of this is a matter of our responses being lost in translation. I will try to explain.

I have been here long enough to feel comfortable talking about what Zen wanted for this product. He felt that before the zenesis, the genesis market was limited to those who felt comfortable with more complicated technology. I can tell you, I did not really own a genesis device before I stumbled on the zenesis. His idea was to simplify these devices and get them into the hands of the masses. He would create a device that was simple to use, and include everything necessary to allow the user to get it going and continue to keep it going with a minimal amount of messing with it. Before he released his product, there were a extremely limited number of these out in the "wild". He has changed that by setting up his device in a way, where almost anyone could get one, use it and continue to use it without a detailed knowledge of them before receiving them.

This is the origin of the "just vape it" mentality.

This is also where things can often get lost on some of the newcomers. Those of use who have been here for some time, have a deep understanding of zen's philosophy and why he did what he did. We witnessed when he made changes at his own expense to improve on a already amazing device and saw what he went through in terms of some of the hurdles that he had to overcome. This created a strong bond with him and with each other as we waiting patiently for our devices. We became a family. I think this may have also had a somewhat negative effect too. When other came in to question zen, or his product, we would (do) ofter get defensive in protecting him and his devices because of what we had seen.

Then there are the "rules" Once again, in order to keep to his original philosophy of "just vaping it" zen created some rules. He does not want certain things discussed. I completely agree and understand why he does this. I am guessing that he realizes that certain people with great knowledge of these devices will continue to play with them to adjust them to their individual preferences, but if he does not stick to the original simple idea, that these will not be what he wanted, and that is a simple easy to use, but advanced device that anyone can take out of the box and use. This is crucial. This has to be a device that MANY and not just a few feel that they can actually use without being afraid of the technology.

Time for a short story. There are two really well known pizza places in town. People argue as to which is the best one. To me they are not even in the same league. One is OBVIOUSLY better than the other. I argue about it almost daily. In a effort to try to understand why someone could possibly like the other one I finally figured out one of the main reasons. I have had a number of people say to me that they hated my place because the wait was often too long and that my place were pizza nazi's. You see my place has rules. First, they will only stay open till then run out of dough (which they make daily) People do not like the fact that they may show up and they might be sold out. They feel that they should keep making dough indefinitely. I argue that the reason the dough is so great is that they make it fresh everyday. The second reason I hear frequently is that my place has rules. This is true. They will not allow more than three toppings on any particular pizza. They have decided that more than that ruins what they perceive to be the balance of any particular pie. Now what amuses me about this particular rule that these people hate is that the other place has a set menu where no pizza on that menu has more than three toppings. They just do not make this a rule. Also, and I find this more amusing still is that at the other place, you cannot concoct your own pizza. The menu is set. At my place at least you have the flexibility to make a pizza you want. In actuality, my place is more flexible, but because they discuss this rule, people think they are more rigid, when in fact the opposite is true. In many ways it is just the perception.

This is the case with zen's rules. He enforces them to stick to his original philosophy, and I for one, like it. I figure in some ways, he knows best, and believing in him, I go with that. I may from time to time, do something that he does not want me to, but at this point, I have enough expertise to have earned some of my futzing. :)

Now I will try to get back on track and get to my point (finally :))

I can see how we would be perceived as "fanboys" and how our answers and reactions might turn some others off from time to time. I will now just speak for myself in a effort to not get angry responses from all of you :). I do sometimes get aggravated with people who should just know the answers to simple questions. I want them to search for the answer or just go to the group thread to find the answer. I see vicsan answer the simple questions without aggravation and think she is a saint, because I do not always have the patience to do so. I think that I read every single thread, so they should have to do that too! I respond with things like "just vape it!" and expect that they should just do it.

Then in my more "zen" moments, I realize that this is not right. We need to remember that we were all there once and had and continue to have those same novice questions. I think we need to follow up our answers of "just vape it" with a explanation of why we are saying that. I think if we explained why we had that philosophy, it would make sense and not just make us look like crazed fanboys and even worse, a bunch of asses. As I mentioned above, I think people like vicsan and Lorderos are godsends as they patiently answer question after question without a hint of impatience. Trust me I have asked the same stupid questions over and over and it amazes me that every time they respond. I think we need to have this same compassion for everyone else. Especially considering that this hobby has a tendency to make people a little reactive and impatient sometimes (stupid nic effect on us :)).

I just want to make sure we do not turn others off and do our best to welcome everyone. We can do that by being patient and helpful and remembering we were all there once. I am going to continue to make a concerted effort to do that. We have to remember that we want people to get these, use and enjoy them and the best way to do that is to help them. This in turn will allow zen the continued success to keep producing them and other shiny new ones that we will want (cough ,cOBalt, cough :))

I am so sorry that this post had to come at a time that should have just been one in which we are enjoying the miracle that is 1,000,000 views and also fathers day. Ripple's post just forced me (not in a bad way) to post something that has been on my mind for a week. I love these devices, zen, this thread and all of you, and hope my post in some way helps to remind all of us why we are here. I hope it helps me to be patient and to help all the people that will be joining the ranks of the zenfidels in the future.

I hope this makes sense. I am just waking up.

Once again, congrats zen on a amazing achievement. And happy fathers day to all. I am going to celebrate as I am a dad (to my wonderful pooch) I expect to get a gift too :)

"Applauding" Well Said "applauding"

Happy fathers day. Your doggie told me that your gift is the slipper he mistakenly chewed up and hid behind the wooden trunk in the den. He said he is sorry and couldn't help himself. He told me he loves you very much.

Love, the cat,

Your insanely long post was extraordinary! I've already spent some time on this thread, and got to know Zen's ways a bit, but reading your post actually made me understand a lot of things I was still finding "funny". It should somehow be posted "at the entrance" to this thread. Truly, sir, it was a very rewarding read.

Ummmmm can I get the audio version of the ob post? :D

I will add that the closeness you guys share can be a bit off putting to noob's when first perusing this thread because of how tight everyone seems to be. I am a bit reserved when meeting new people, either in person or on the net, but after some time I relaxed and just started interact as most everyone does.....joking, helping (best I could), and just basically joining the general theme of this thread. So I know how it may be off putting for noob's who may be a bit reserved or shy to ask away. I feel comfortable now and anytime I want to post something, I do, I don't know all of the Zen~ rules but when they are pointed out, I learn and appreciate how helpful everyone here has been to me.

Thank you fellow Zenfidel's.

no it's no joke.... just sux it's like 100 miles to get to a bus stop.....long walk ahead of me. hell it's 30 miles just to get to town. with no vehicle, no job, and about 300 bucks to my name i have no clue what i am going to do
I'm so sorry to hear your position. This really sux, espcially without a car to sleep in. Hopefully a neighbor will be going your way and pick you up. Are there any Hostels in your area? Church's sometimes have a kind of Hostel if there aren't any real ones. The soup kitchens really help too, I hope you have some in your area. Even the miminum wage workers eat at the soup kitchens here in Calif... it's not embarrassing, just sad. In the meantime, I'll be praying for you and I hope you can keep Will Smith's movie, The Pursuit of Happiness, in your mind as you travel the path towards a entirely new world for yourself. Good luck!

Hear, hear!!!!

There's a difference between being an "over the top fanboi" and being a smidge "clannish"... but best of all is being helpful and kind and welcoming, which by far is the overwhelming vibe I see here and definitely is the #1 contributor to there having been a million page-views, and the rapidly growing user base.... and, honestly, it's a huge contributor to Zen's success in selling these things! Yes, you all add to the success of the product itself!!!

Another thing to note: Point of perspective... outside of the few who are personal friends of Zen~, nobody has been "here" even a year.... Think about that! All this in less than a year; damn near just a half year!

Pretty awesome achievement, and certainly some "fannishness" is in order. We just need to remember to be fans of the attitude and helpfulness and kindness too, and "pay it forward" as we all move forward. :)

The best is yet to come!!!
