G, slide the wick inside the insulater, then slide a thin paper clip thru the wick, then slide the whole assembly thru the wick hole, this will keep everything straight, then wrap your coil.

+1... i'm a big fan of "lining" the wick.

Pretty sure I got it now, zygote. It was the insulator pinching off wicking. The wick was still open, but wicking was still inhibited by mushroomed insulator. Took wick/coil off and trimmed mushrooming off insulator and wicking was restored. Even though the "straw" was open all the way, it wasn't wicking. It's fixed.

Without an insulator, it's 50mm x 35mm. I just rolled one with 200 mesh.

so its over double what I normally do in the width.

I decided to try that "twisted coil" I've read about... in the name of science again. LOL
Where you take two lengths of wire and twist them together before wrapping the coil.

Got a perfect coil going. Or at least close. And tons of vapor, but the throat hit is too much.
Actually makes me cough.
I guess I either need lower gauge wire or back to single wire for me.

I think 200 is the limit, wicks great, but a pain to work with, it's really soft, like working with a paper towel.
