Thanks Dearme ;)
This is my "I quit cigarettes" gift to myself :) SO GLAD I WAS EVEN ABLE TO GET ONE SO QUICK
No, od, I'm sure you are fine. Shipping from HOH slows down when Zen in the middle of a giant push to get APVs out the door. Probably the only reason the Mystery Boxes went out so quick is those things were already in a Priority Box when they were purchased.......LOL..........You will get the stuff you ordered, never fear.......

First, they do not test for nicotine, but rather for cotinine which is a metabolite (residual) of nicotine that can be seen up to 10 days after the last cigarette. Interestingly, menthol smokers have more cotinine becasue menthol slows down its breakdown. It's a safe bet to assume that it's not much different for vaping.

As far as insurance goes, I don't know anything exactly, but there was someone on the new members forum a while ago who had experience working for one and said that even if you qualify as a non-smoker, in the event of a later claim, if they do detect cotinine at that time they will try to fight the claim... It was about life insurance, really...

I had heard once that a person was checked and after around 2 hours from the last time they vaped and they didn't detect any nicotine. Don't take my word on this tho cause I'm no expert in the subject.

thanks for the info...definitely going to grab some self tests tomorrow, I think they sell them at walgreens/cvs type stores.

Has anyone recently had a health examination for insurance? I found out today I need to do one and they told me premiums are much more expensive for smokers. I am not a smoker but she said it detects nicotine. I usually vape 3-6ml a day of 12mg juice, and am going to grab one of those self test things tomorrow but was wondering if anyone had some knowledge on the matter.

BenC7,

You should really check out a thread that I started in March 2011 talking about this issue. It's not very long, but the information in it might be invaluable to the questions you are asking. It started for employment purposes but goes into insurance and testing, etc. The thread is called "Nicotine Testing for Employment/Admission". I think it's an interesting read. Hope this helps!

Tank is half full, yes hole is aligned with wick and hole and wick are down when vaping. Not sure how to describe said off taste. Taste just isn't clean like is has been since I got it. It's a rather acidic juice (Strawberry limeaid) so I can't tell if its metallic or just burnt or if I'm tasting insulator... Can't put my finger on it but something is different/off.

Just wrapped a new coil, 3/4 wrap over the 4/5 wrap it came with. Normally I wouldn't have wrapped a new coil but when testing to see if the wick had melted the insulator I messed things all up so new coil it was. This point I need some ginger or something cause I can't tell what's going on now lol.
Might just be a dirty or gunked up wick, pull it and burn it, replace and twist a coil.....CHOO CHOO!

I write Life Insurance. Maybe I can help. Some companies underwrite form smoking, and some underwrite for nicotine. Some, you can explain that you don't smoke, but they will find nic because you vape. Don't let them decline you, or rate you as a smoker. Get with your agent and find out the company's underwriting criteria. If they are gonna look at any nicotine the same, withdraw the app and go with another company. Why? Because some companies want to know if you've been declined our rated by another company, and if another company called you a smoker, they will call you a smoker regardless of their other underwriting criteria.

What a racket, huh?

I take issue with the remark about studies showing nicotine causes hypertension or atherosclerosis.

There are no long term, clinical studies showing that.

There is lab evidence that nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, but no evidence that vasoconstrictors cause hypertenstion (i.e. chronic, self perpetuating elevation in blood pressure) but rather transient, mild increases in blood pressure.

There is evidence from small experimental human studies with small numbers of subjects showing that in smokers, nicotine administration alters vascular reactivity (basically blood vessels constrict in an abnormal way), but one such study shows that in non-smokers nicotine does not have that effect.

There are the famous studies done retrospectively, that's true, on the Swedish Snus cohorts showing that use of tobacco alone (which we may consider reasonably worse than nicotine alone) does not significantly increase risk of hypertension, coronary disease, etc. It does show a moderate increase in the risk of diabetes. There is also a smaller increase in heart failure which, in my opinion, is confounded by the significantly higher proportion of alcohol abusers in the Snus users than in the non-Snus users.

There is recent data presented at the European cardiology meeting showing vaping causes no acute myocardial dysfunction. Just like the ones above, this does not prove vaping does not increase long-term risk of heart disease - a long term, clinical study is needed for that - but provides a workable hypothesis that this is the case.

There is a plethora of small experimental studies, these days, showing questionably relevant physiologic parameter changes with vaping or nicotine exposure. These are bad science from the get-go, but I won't get into that. These small studies do not really prove anything whatsoever. Nothing. Yet they are quoted amply both in the mass media and in policy making circles as "evidence" of "presumable harm".
