Oh, here's an idea!!! You can ask us to send the package insert from the sidewinder tube. Only the owners have them. People can keep their PV's and you know who has a real one!

Oh and, sure people could possible photshop, color copy it, but we would have a big headt start on this

That's brilliant... and it will ONLY be from people that I don't know, so MOST will ship quickly.

I may use that instead of photographic proof!

oh man, that bites...there's always gonna be some @$$hat around that has to ruin it for everyone else  they need to be hung upside down with fish hooks, from their 'junk'...then have their eyelids, fingernails and toenails peeled away with a branding iron-hot set of rusty vice grips :p sorry, I can think of a zillion other punishments worse than this :grr:

So there's a dilemma...

The Sidewinder update kits are ready to ship and I was going to put them on the site tonight.

Then I got a text message from a vaper that I trust a whole lot that informed me that in the chats some jerks were conspiring to get together and claim the parts... even though they don't actually have the PVs... there was mention of selling them in the classifieds before I could get them to the right people.

Is this what we have become? A community of vapers that has become so hated by others that outsiders intentionally steal parts that are being made available to help people get their devices running correctly? This is outrageous.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford to have that happen. I know the real names of most people in this thread so I can be certain that SOME of the parts will get where they belong, but I sold quite a few to complete strangers and I want them to have a good experience as well.

I need suggestions from you folks that frequent this thread on how to best administer these parts so we can get them to the people that need them, without shipping expensive machined parts to idiots that are just out to hurt me.

Any ideas? I'm at a loss.

That would work for sure, but I know who MOST of you are...

Let me toss out an idea...

How about making it so that if I don't recognize who they are, I request a photo of the person with the PV. If they cannot provide a photo, they can post a deposit which will be refunded when I get parts back from them... in ALL cases I have people give me their forum screen names.

Thoughts?

That's great actually. Works for everyone on the board or not.

Edit: Board lag, good idea Ian.

The tube insert sounds pretty good. It would take quite a bit of effort to mass fake it. It would also be difficult to exact match the full graphic and paper used. If you do use photographic proof, there are image checkers that can give you a good idea if an image has been manipulated should there be a questionable submission.

Have people submit a picture including the SW and serial number. Track the serials and ensure you don't issue two kits to one number.

Ideally have them submit the 'order' and hold all orders for a week to ensure no duplication. If there is a 'problem' serial, ask both submitters to jump on a skype video call with you and show you the device real time.

Pain in the ..., but.... it would work.

Other option: Put a $100 price tag on the kits. Validate the card but don't run the charge. Have them submit a picture of their device, serial number, and installed kit before you pull the charge out of your processing batch. Let the 'thieves' pay you $100 each if they really want to.

By the way. I was the person who wanted to get one like 5 min into VC and you didn't have the ability to take a card yet. So I bugged you a few times (3,4,5 lol) through out the day. You told someone to get "this patient person a sidewinder" lol. I could tell if you were being sarcastic not.

I actually think that other than sending back the SW, this is the best idea....unfortunately, pictures of someone w/ the SW (anyone can photoshop or steal someone else's photo) or Ian's idea sending inserts back, you'll find someone with the ingenuity to 'make' their own and weasle into getting something they aren't supposed to have 8-o... I always say, safety first, and that would be if they want the upgrade, send in the unit...really, that's a small price to pay (even it it IS a pain) for everyone that needs or wants it done...especially for those ya don't know...

That would work for sure, but I know who MOST of you are...

I've got to say... I don't think zen wants to be inspecting photos for photoshop. Pains in the ... will still be pains in the ....

Best recommendation I've got is tie real name to forum name to serial number for everyone that you DO know. Require photos of serial number from everyone you do NOT know. Odds are overwhelmingly good that if they don't have a real device in hand that they're going to guess, and their guess will almost certainly be both a bad photoshop AND overlap a genuine submission.
