In theory only. Corporatism is just the inevitable result of unchecked capitalism.
Not by any means. Capitalism gives one the capability and responsibility to take care of ones self. Socialism/communism is counting on the government to take care of you. It's not and shouldn't be the government taking care of you. You should be taking care of yourself.

Hhmmm... You do realize giving the federal government that "checking" power (unconstitutional, by the way) is exactly how they have special favor to offer to the highest bidder?

Note: So, if you know that there are people in our government who are selling their votes... even letting special interests write the legislation, in return for money... why is it that people believe giving that same government more power to curb the above, will work? It's simply not logical. Why would they take action to turn off their own money spigot?

I never said the government should do the checking. The government is the first that should get checked. IMHO. I don't think that career politicians should be a thing. It'd be a lot harder to buy a senator if there were new ones every few years.

I'm not advocating for communism any more than I rebel against consumerism either. I think both systems are trash.

What would you suggest since you don't have a correct understanding of either one?

That's funny, coming from someone who thinks communism is all about handouts.
You obviously have no understanding of what I said. Show where I said communism is all about handouts. Maybe reread what was said and have it explained to you.

That's like saying piety fails because the person is well…not pious.

Corporatists are not practicing capitalism but government/enterprise collusion, monopoly and centralist consolidation of authority, property and exchange. As such it is the perversion of individual free enterprise and free exchange, as well our system of government.

As Milton Friedman once pointed out, at the height of the empire upon which the sun never sets government comprised less than 10% of its economy. Now that is success…for the individual.

How much of your money (and property) does our government lay claim to today?

The more we argue about the labels they choose for us, the more we lose.

Good luck. :)

I avoid politics discussions! Now, back to the vaping/flavor/teen issues. There are flavored alcohols, flavored cigs/cigars, flavored breakfast cereals. So lets pick on flavored vape but let the teens be alcoholics, get cancer, obesity and diabetes. What an azz backwards world!

I have to be honest, if I had to CHOOSE between CASA and Juul, I would probably go with Juul to represent vaping's interests. I can't even VAPE one (too much PG) but like, they have more money, more influence, and more ability to PAY OFF the right officials.

Don't get me wrong, I believe CASA would be a far better and truer advocate and would give impassioned speeches, but if you think ANYONE is paying ANY attention to those, you would be incorrect.

Juul say I. For, where there is vape, there will exist the possibility of More Vape, slowly over time. If Juul gets monopoly, even for a while, the furor will die off once politicians feel adequately taxed, and vaping will be saved... One day.

I hate to be such a pragmatist, but I am afraid I TRULY believe it.

From listening to all of the hearings they had this week, my take on it is that Juul isn't at all interested in saving "vaping". They are interested in using this procedure to kill off much of their competition (i.e. regulation) and own the industry.

The whole thing was just weird. To my understanding, Juul has pre-filled pods. So, Senator Durbin, while testifying starting to pull various flavored e-juices out of a bag, one of them that I am currently vaping by the way, was rather obtuse. Because these flavored juices cannot be used in Juul pods, which was the focus of all these hearings to begin with.

Yes, I'd have to agree. JUUL is a gateway, to more JUUL…and only more JUUL.

I can't imagine gov opposing such a singular target with such deep pockets and so willing to conform to gov regulations. Seems like a match made in heaven.

Some easily influenced peeps will enjoy all this kabuki theater.

Good luck. :)

I really, really hate that Juul is being used to represent all of vaping. Why isn't CASAA in there?

CASAA wasn't invited by the committee to testify. Strangely, neither was the CEO of Juul. Of course, this wasn't a hearing about the industry in general nor the needs/wants of consumers (whom CASAA represents,) it was a dog and pony show for the ANTZ congressmen and women to get up on their soapboxes. It was clear that many had no interest in answers to their questions, they just wanted to sling accusations.

It comes down to Johhny Rep and Jane Senator keep finding Juuls on their kids so SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE.

Those people know about as much about vaping as building a clock. I used to keep CSPAN on constantly. I used to hope all those wacko's would get overthrown. I stopped watching for about ten years. I tuned back in one day and to my dismay all those whacko's ARE IN CHARGE NOW.

They should go mow the lawn. Then they can say they "did something". And it will have as much impact on the perceived problem as what they seem to want to do.
