Hi,
I've been vaping for a few weeks now and loving it! You would think people would be happy for you but it's crazy how many people will say "that's great that you're off the cigs, but be careful that you don't get addicted to those e-cigs. you don't know what's in them or how they might hurt you". I'm trying to explain that I have spent hours and hours researching, and that I'm investing in quality devices and even organic juices made in the USA. Never mind the thousands of toxins I'm no longer ingesting from analogs, or that the technique is totally different and I don't even have to inhale if I don't want to. Someone always has to rain on your parade it seems. I probably shouldn't care what anyone else thinks but in this case it's family...my kids, who happened to have quit cold turkey years ago. So, I'm trying to educate them as I go, but I just hate getting defensive. Honestly, I know this is saving my life and just want my people to be as excited as I am. Well, that's my rant. Just wondering if any of you have had the same experiences. I feel like I'm going to have to go vape in a remote corner outside somewhere when I'm around family just like when I was a smoker. Oh well...it is what it is. Cheers!! :smokie:

Welcome , but that attitude , is what it is . A lot of people I know were hard to convince at first . And some still think I just changed to a different bad habit . To them , I convince them otherwise , so I don't bother trying anymore . It took some doing , but now my youngest daughter and her husband , now vape . It wasn't easy convincing them , but they slowly came around . All you need to do , is knowing that your doing it for you , not them . So if they want to be nay-Sayers , let them . Their loss , not yours . Hang in there .

I just explain that while it may not be 100% safe(nothing is) it is a thousand times better than smoking, and that I do in fact know exactly what's in my e-liquid. Ultimately though, some people just won't accept it, they've been poisoned for years that anything even remotely related to smoking is evil. You know you've made a good life choice and sometimes that has to be enough.

Sadly it's not easy. Nicotine has been greatly vilified because of its link to tobacco cigs. It does not help that some very powerful people are making many false claims against e-cigs in a very public way. But don't worry and keep at it. You're doing yourself a huge life saving favor by vaping, others will see it in time and you have the science to back you up, the liars do not and everyday it's becoming more and more apparent.

Sorry I don't have a better answer, but you will get through it and eventually most people close start to listen.

Get them to agree on the fact e-cig is a positive step in the right direction, and you are not ready to go the full distance, and if you had to, you'd relapse back to tobacco.

Sometimes you just have to ignore the negatives and endlessly emphasize a state of betterment has been reached until it sinks in. Reiterations can work miracles to shut up naysayers. What works for Goebels, will work for you too, but for the right reasons.

I dont....If they choose to remain ignorant thats their problem.

Thing is, some people, due to their own arrogance will always think they are smarter than everyone else despite pretty convincing evidence to the contrary.

Those with closed minds will likely always have closed minds.Family and friends that want to act interested and ask questions....thats another matter entirely.

Before you tell them you are using ecigs, tell them you have quick smoking but picked up a new habit....<insert horrible drug here>. When they freak out, say just kidding, I am using ecigs now...aren't you glad it's not <whatever you said previously>.

Seriously though I am like the only person I know that is not insanely addicted to caffeine. I'd tell them don;t mess with my habit and I won't mess with theirs.

I'm 63 years old. When I was 40 my health was so bad due to debilitating habits, I had to learn about health, and since then I've worked in the health field... I did continue smoking (trying to hide it from the public) and it was my worst vice until i found vaping.

My work life is public, but I'm a private person and my private life is vaping... my wife is fine with it, but my teenage kid hates it... too bad. She won't listen.

I don't expect everyone to understand, so I don't push it... there's no need. I have a personal family style facebook page and a vaping facebook page for Ukeman.
I do have to get around my kids' objections though... my one teenage daughter goes to a boarding high shcool though... hallelujah!
