How do you feel about smokers now?

I feel bad because I find smokers to almost be a burden now. Secondhand smoke use to never really bother me, even after I quit cold turkey for a little while. When I smoked, of course, it never bothered me. However, I've noticed lately that secondhand smoke REALLY irks me.

I was at the casino yesterday for a bit. It is on the Indian reservation so you can smoke or vape in there. We went to the bar after working an event there. The secondhand smoke was so thick, I immediately wanted to leave. My eyes were itching and I started hacking up a lung in there and continued to for a few hours after we left. Luckily we only stayed an hour because that was all I could take. Back when I smoked though, I loved this bar and this casino.

My friend still smokes and is unwilling to make the switch to vaping. She often smokes in the car, which use to not bother me. Now the smell alone is awful and I simply can't stand it. It lingers for days.

I don't know what is it, but lately I just CANNOT deal with secondhand smoke and avoid people who are actively smoking like the plague. I feel bad because I have friends that smoke and it is hard to say "no, you can't smoke in my car" or walk away when they light one up. I smoked for years so I feel bad for doing so, and I don't want to seem "stuck up" just because I vape now.

I can't stand the smell anymore either. It's especially irritating when my mother in law babysits my kids. She knows not to smoke in the house, but she's a pretty heavy smoker, and it just clings to her. I tried switching her over to vaping pretty hard. It's actually pretty vital that she stop smoking, as she suffers from macular degeneration and the smoke getting into her eyes is speeding it up and she'll go blind faster. Nothing I've tried appears to be working though, and I've given up. She simply won't stop.

i had a similar problem with grandma recently. to her e-cigs are the "Devil's playtoy" being forced down our throats by the "homosexual agenda" while tobacco cigs are "...as the good Lord intended God fearin' Americans to smoke." she and her house used to stink to high heaven of stale smoke smell. so the past few months when i go check on her i bring a few bottles of fabreeze and lysol with me and just spray and squirt anything and everything til the bottles run dry.

When I started vaping I vowed to never be the ex-smoker that turns into the anti smoking whinebags I despised when I was smoking. I do notice the smell of people's clothes after smoking is pretty nasty, but as far as smelling the smoke in the air, I actually don't mind it at all. I enjoyed smoking and pretty much unintentionally quit from vaping. The one thing that annoys me tho (and it always did even when I was smoking), is the person who gotta light up a .... at the door before they leave a building... You know those people who make a b-line for the door and light up just before they get out and leave a plume of smoke in the building. I always felt like it made smokers look like such weak minded douche's and didn't want to be guilty by association. How hard is it to wait like .5 of a second until you're actually out of the building. Other than that, I have no problem with smokers, smoke'em if you got'em

I was sitting behind this guy on the bus yesterday and it was amazing the revelations I had while behind him. He was my old "type" when I was younger, you know cute and cool rebel artistic type, probably a musician... But while I found him attractive, the reek of his probably pack a day habit had me ready to run for the hills. I could tell he wore a nicely scented cologne, and if I still smoked myself I would have only been able to smell that and been more attracted, but since I don't smoke any more, all I could do was wish he didn't smoke so I could smell it better. Despite the positives I found the smell of stale camels on him was so revolting it negated everything. And I was like, I seriously was attracted to that at one time? I didn't even smell it? Did I smell like that? Etc

It was an interesting ride...

Considering what a scent addict I am, all about myself and my home smelling good, I'm really really glad I quit smoking now. Now I know what I smell is true to what is actually there.

The way I see smokers hasn't really changed. I don't mind going to the bar and laughing it up in a room full of smoke ( it's a private club, so they can smoke indoors.) If they ask,I am quick to let people I know try whatever I'm vaping, explain my setup, and let them know how much better I already feel. I don't push it on anyone, but if they are genuinely interested, I get super excited. I like vaping way more than I ever liked smoking, so I get happy thinking that I might help someone else feel the same.

As with everything else, my first thought goes to the golden rule. How would I want a vaper to treat me were I still burning the brown leaves?

It would be nice of him or her to leave me alone unless I asked them about their funny looking computerized cigarette, then I'd love to hear the elevator pitch about vaping, and if they offered a taste, I'd accept.

Unless they offer a taste and they have that white juicy crust at each corner of their mouth with those wet, wobbly cables forming when they open their lips as if their mouth opening has shock absorbers, in which case I'd politely tell them, "I have Ebola, crabs and a mild headache, so I shouldn't trade spittle with anyone in the interest of public health. But thank you for the info!"

Oh, and if it were a her and she were really nice and single, I might ask for her phone number. Unless she's the one with the shock absorbers.

I also find those shock absorbers revolting. Almost makes me puke seeing them. Makes me want give them a tissue to wipe the crap from their lips.

I quit 4 months ago today. Stale cigarette smoke or a bunch of people smoking in a confined space kind of bugs me. But a freshly lit smoke still smells really good to me, always has.

same exact thing here!!! .....freshly lit cigs smell awesome! ...but really really only that first light up

I would like to weigh in, even as a non smoker. As a nurse, what is often interesting and actually difficult to deal with is how smokers view *themselves*. While everyone is different, I find it really hard to broach the topic. If a health care person even brings up smoking, "How much do you smoke?" for example, I get a slurry of "I know, I'm terrible, I shouldn't, I'll stop...." and on and on. I have actually had to say "Stop it!!!" a few times to re focus someone to the topic at hand. I am well aware smokers know that it is bad for them, have yet to meet someone who didn't know. My job is never to judge, but to evaluate the situation and let them know about any harm reduction ideas I might have.

This society has gone so overboard stigmatizing smokers that it makes it hard for those of us with new and interesting alternatives to even crack the protective shell they have put around themselves. Even nicotine addiction is stigmatized. I have read stop-smoking forums and seen e cig vapers *blasted* for still having a nicotine addiction. This coming from people who not only were addicted to nicotine themselves at one time, but who also may enjoy a glass of wine every night to relax, or take an anti-anxiety, meds prescribed by their doctor to help them deal with the day.

We only have this life...to waste it being consumed with being the perfect person, totally off any sort of substance is probably both unrealistic and a waste of time. History tells us that....there has never been a time in human history that people did not seek chemical forms of relaxation or alteration of consciousness. Are we going to be the very first? Nah....probably not. Vape on :vapor:

this is the most sensible thing I have read in any forum or social media outlet about smoking/vaping or using any other substances.
