I am extremely curious about peoples reactions to their loved ones making the switch to vaping. I never gave it much thought till last night when i was reading a post mentioning that their spouse doesn't support their "vaping habit".
Personally, My husband digs that I vape. He still smokes, and wishes he could switch, but I honestly just think he isn't ready. Maybe some day he will be.
Any way, His reaction to me vaping is an extremely positive one. I tend to get obsessed easily, and Vaping got me hook line and sinker. I spend alot of my hard earned money on trying out new juices and other e-cig related things. He always sees my packages and asks what I got this time. Never harping on me about the money I spend, or how much time I spend surfing the forum. The other day he said that he wouldn't care if it cost twice as much as smoking... As long as I feel better, Its worth every penny. That said, I genuinely appreciate his support and understanding. I don't think I could have done it in the beginning if I didn't have it.

So how do the people close to you feel about you vaping? Is their reaction positive? Or negative? Does this effect how you feel about weather or not you can keep vaping? Or does it pressure you to return to Cigarettes?

My hubby just told me again this week how proud he is of my vaping and not smoking. He is a non-smoker and never liked me smoking. I think I read the same thread you did and felt so bad for her and her spouse who just doesn't seem to want to understand what she has accomplished.

I have had to watch how much I purchase because he has been laid off for awhile now but it still have saved us lots of money compared to the cost of cigs.

My mother is thrilled that I am not smoking analogs anymore and she was even more thrilled when my sister switched too. She said that it would be a good graduation present for my younger borther who still smokes but I think he will come around once he leaves for basic training with the Army next month.

My husband was the one who first started talking about it in our house because a bunch of his co-workers switched when the company went completely smoke free anywhere on property including the parking lot. I ordered both our kits at the same time and he pretty much only uses it when he is working. He doesn't seem to be interested in trying different juices or anything that might make him kick the analog habit completely. I on the other hand ordered more batteries and juice and cartos his response was how many batteries do you need (I have 4 v4l shorties on me at all times with two backups at home). He thinks it is silly that I spend so much time reading these forums but he does think that it was a good thing that I quit completely but doesn't understand why I had to turn it into an obsession. There is a PA vapers meetup in a couple weeks and I mentioned the possibility of going and he wasn't having any part of that.

Hubby and I both vape, and the family is thrilled! In fact, my in-laws (who do not smoke or vape) have converted 2 other family members!

I, too, hurt for those who have no support or downright discouragement from their loved ones. Hopefully, with time and communication about how the negativity makes them feel, their families will come around.

Reactions have ranged from ambivalent to curious to very supportive. I have yet to have anyone actually react negatively. I honestly don't understand why anyone would.

Even if you buy all the FDA-approved mis-information out there, the worst case scenario for e-cigs is still leaps and bounds better than smoking.

But, so far, I haven't had any troubling reactions.

I have the typical former smoker for a hubby:( He quit using the patch last year, and suffered a lot in the process.
Now that I turned to vaping he gripes constantly about the smell of the vape and tells me that it is still nic so I am still smoking.
He cant seem to get over it. Bummer for him LOL

So let me get this straight. He quit with the patch, which, unless I'm horribly mistaken, contains nicotine - and very high doses of nicotine at that,... and he's complaining because you're still using nicotine?

Um...

My family has been great! I've been a smoker for nearly 30 years, my parents smoked too, all my life. Last year, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, had a double mastectomy last August (wow, it's almost been a year already). I was told then that I couldn't smoke for fear of infecting my surgical sights. I couldn't do it, I couldn't quit. Thankfully, I didn't do any damage to my surgery. The family I have been working for wanted so badly for me to quit, they not-so-gently nudged me along. The owner of the company was (maybe still is) a chewer. He promised to quit with me, and did so even though I didn't. I've since found evidence he hasn't completely quit, but hey...

In March, I told my immediate boss that I was at the end of my rope, I wanted to quit, but couldn't. I was going to check into electronic cigarettes...how ironic that a friend of mine came over to my place that same evening and let me try hers. I was amazed! I ordered my kit that night.

After explaining to my work family what I had ordered, I got full approval to use my PV at my desk. They were so excited that I was really going to quit, and have even made allowance for any of their employees to use PVs in their restaurants, away from customers (we have an indoor smoking ban statewide).

I smoked my last cigarette a half hour before I opened my kit. It was THAT easy for me. I immediately told my parents, ordered them a kit, and they have stopped a 60+ year habit of smoking.

My teenaged kids love the idea. My oldest had already started smoking, so he uses my equipment when he is in the house, as he can't smoke inside now. My daughter has never smoked, thank goodness, but she does like the smell of some of my vapes.

In all, I have had very positive reactions everywhere, and I have converted at least a dozen smokers to vaping :D

Change all the "husband" and "he" words in your post to "wife" and "she", and you'd have my situation here at home. I constantly try to convince her that this is the way to go, especially since she suffers from COPD, but at least she doesn't begrudge me for all the money I've dropped on PV stuff since Jan. of last year.:)
Actually, a lot of my purchases have been in anticipation of her taking up the e-cig at some point - my stash of juices and mods are testament to that.
A little story about vaping: After a funeral service, we got back in our car and I pulled out my box mod for a couple of hits while the procession formed up, and my wife couldn't find her lighter. Since I didn't carry one any more, and the car doesn't have a lighter (or ash tray for that matter), she was SOL. After several minutes of near-panic she finally said, "Give me that d**n thing" and took a couple of draws to satisfy her urges until she could get/find a lighter. I really, really tried to hide the smug expression on my face. Really, I did. :D
Couple of weeks ago at a 4th of July party, the atomizer on my REO went pfft, and me without a spare. She did NOT attempt to hide any expressions, smug or otherwise, for the rest of the day.

Thats the worst!!! I have become a crazy bag lady, constantly carrying around a little makeup bag filled with spare batteries, attys, carts and juice. I guess you can say I am a little paranoid that I'll be without my PV and get tempted.

I know, It really got to me. It kind of burst my bubble a little, Ever since I found E-cigs, I have thought they were the best invention ever. Actually my husband told me about them, and I became obsessed, and started getting everyone around me to try them out. Either way, everyone has been so supportive of me vaping. I don't think anyone thought they would ever see the day that I didn't have at least two packs of camel's on me at all times. It just never crossed my mind that someone would prefer someone they cared about smoke. Because its easier. Because it doesn't look like your doing drugs. Because its only $8 at a time. What ever bogus reason... it makes me so sad.

As for the money, I have for sure spent quite a bit. But not because i NEEDED to... But because its become a hobby for me. Maybe that sounds bad :p

I have definitely spent more on vaping than I would on smoking. Now that I know what I like, and I have found the right hardware, I CAN survive on less than 100.00 per month. The money I save in health costs, and the shame I save when I don't smell like smoke is well worth it!

Good for you Ace, for having a supportive spouse...sometimes the spouses/significant others can make or break a new routine/habit/hobby...I call this my new obsession ;) I am pretty set on my vaping 4 months in, so any future significant other(not holding breath for that) will not change my ways :p

I have to say that all of my family and friends have been very supportive and happy that I've quit cancer-sticks with maybe a couple of exceptions. My wife quit smoking cold turkey 8-1/2 years ago. My daughter and son quit last summer using Chantix. I quit instantly when I took my first vape on 4 November of '09. So now nobody in our house smokes anymore so all the crap associated with a "smokers house" is long gone and we couldn't be happier.

Every couple of months I let the wife know that I'm going to order some e-juice so I get a few (5 the last time) 50ml bottles of juice and I'm set for another 2-3 months. So needless to say, the money savings is more than substantial which pleases my better half.

Yes, lots of support among family and friends but even more important, the support I've found and received from fellow members here has been priceless!

Its awesome that a lot of you have so much support. In my case my fiance is glad I don't smoke but gives me hell about vaping. She quit cold turkey about 3 mos. before I got my first pv. I'm proud as hell of her for that, and have told her on many occasions, but she thinks Im cheating.I'm still addicted to nicotine so it doesn't count.I usually dont vape around her though, not because she doesn't like it,but as a former smoker I think it makes her want to smoke seein it.If weren't for pv's Id still be smokin.Id be spendin a hell of a lot more money to,which is another thing she gripes about. Its awesome that she had the will power to do it completely unaided but some people just dont have that kind of will power over cigarettes. Ive been smokin since I was 12, and loved every bit of it.Even though I knew it was killing me.But to wrap it up I love These ... things and I'm not gonna stop anytime soon. 90 day anniversary comin up and a new Riva in the mail to celebrate WHOOO!!!!

I'm not getting much support at home. My SO and teenage son don't like me vaping. SO complains about the cost, even though it's only been about half the $1200 I would have spent on tobacco over the past year. They don't really consider I've quit smoking.

My mother has been supportive, and even has tried vaping. She still hasn't quit cigarettes though.

My inlaws haven't said a thing about it. Which probably indicates non support.

I don't have a significant other. My Mom wants me to stop everything. My brother is happy as long as I'm not smoking. I'm not sure if I told my dad. Most of my friends give me crap about it. Even my friends that smoke. Only a couple friends are supportive and think I'm doing the right thing. I really don't care what anyone has to say about it. It's my life and my health.
