I have been stalking the DIY and I am just wondering how hard is it really?

I mean it seems quite simple all I need is PG, VG, and flavoring? (Don't care about the nicotine)

I also see people using words like steeping ... I have no clue what that means.

If I was to make my own juice would it save me enough money to even notice? I spend quite a lot on juice each week. Probably close to $30 which is just a little under what a carton of cigs cost me.

I prefer fruity flavors are they hard to make or easier to make?

Any help on this subject would be great :)

Thanks

Making 0 nic juice would save you a ton of money. When I was making my own juice I was saving $16 per 30ml bottle. Most of the cost came from buying nic juice to mix with. If I hadn't had to worry about nic I can probably make 250ml for like $5. So like 70 cents per 30ml bottle.

When I mix it I just add 50/50 PG and VG and then add the flavors.... very easy

The hardest part of making juice is finding the right flavors.

Fruity flavors, especially the most simple, are very easy to make, and are usually shake and vape, requiring no steeping. Even my favorites, floral teas, are easy. I mix up unflavored juice and mix juice from it ten ml at a time. I started DIY when I was vaping at 0mg, and I agree with you 100%-- it is so easy, and the expense is minimal. Even at 3mg.

I use seed steeping, which means I add ten ml to the last of the previous batch, somehow doing it that way is less bother than the superstitious mumbo-jumbo of <sarcasm alert>shake for a half hour, heat at 120 deg for two hours, allow exposure to air for twenty-four hours, cap, store in dark cool cupboard for two weeks, shaking daily and its variants.

Making e-juice with one (or no) flavor is not difficult and will save you a lot of money. I suggest checking out one of the DIY calculators and playing with it to see if you understand how to use it. Some vendors provide % recommendations for their flavorings, and you can always post questions here as well. Creating your own blends by combining flavors does take experience, but you have to start somewhere.

You do not need a lot of expensive equipment to start out. And if you are looking to make 0 nic juice, there is very little risk involved, except perhaps getting something in your eyes.

I was actually thinking about starting vaping again doing 0 nic 100% VG. It would be very cheap. I can get 1 gallon VG for $30. That comes out to 24 cents per 30ml bottle. That is without flavoring. Adding 10% flavoring would come out to about $1 a 30ml bottle.

So It would only cost me $1.25 per bottle of flavored 0% nic.

How hard is it to make your own juice?

It Can be as Easy, or as Hard, as you want to make it. If you can make a Mixed Drink, you can Probably do DIY.

It just comes down to what you Want to make?

If you are the Type of Person who Wants to Measure Everything Down to the +/- .01ml Level, and are Not Going to be Satisfied Unless your Mix Tastes EXACTLY like some Retail e-Liquid, then DIY can be Hard. Very Hard and Frustrating.

But if you are just Looking for a Good Tasting e-Liquid at a Fraction of the Cost of Retail e-Liquids, then DIY is Easy.

That is a practical procedure.

Unfortunately it will not work with a New, first time Mix. Now your back to the Mumbo-Jumbo. :D

Some Flavors are just that simple - Shake and Bake.............errr.......Vape
Other, especially complex blends can easily take weeks to mature.
Shaking is a simple step to keep things from settling out and allowing a more even and faster Blending action.

Also - Perfume smells/taste is a good indicator you have added to much flavoring.

Well I wanna start making my own juice too but idk where to buy PG or VG and what can I use as flavoring? Can I just go to the store and buy flavor extract or doesn't have to be specific
Just any extract from the grocery store is not safe. Some are, but others are not. Here is a good place for the beginner:Wizard Labs

You Really Shouldn't Use grocery store Flavorings. Because Many of them Contain Fillers, Sugars and Added Colorants.

Many Places that sell Pre-Mix e-Liquids sell DIY Flavorings and PG/VG. I would suggest you buy your DIY Supplies from those Sites.

Just HAD to reply to this thread...

I started DIY'ing about a month ago, so I'm hardly the expert, but this is what I did. I read and read and read and read everything I could find on this site and vendor sites about the subject and bought supplies from vendors who were mentioned the most often. I started with LorAnn Flavors because they were only $1.40 per dram and they had tons of selection. I then got some stuff from The Flavor Apprentice because the DIY kit I bought included that brand. I got the kit from One Stop DIY Shop and it was very helpful. I realized I didn't like their bottle tips, and I pretty quickly bought quarts of PG and VG from Essential Depot and spent hours online researching 3 ml, 6ml and 10ml plastic and glass bottles. Found 50 plastic 10ml bottles (with tips and caps) for $10 on eBay - SOLD!

However, I have yet to create anything vapable, even following recipes from all sorts of sources. So, in my experience DIY is very hard! But it's also really fun! I've spent way more money on DIY stuff than I would have on cigarettes over the same period of time, but I'm so totally thrilled that I don't smoke anymore it's well worth it - and my husband (who also quit by vaping) agrees!!!

I bit of advice: Don't buy ingredient materials from vape shops that sell their own eJuice. I asked my favorite, friendly shop for some plain VG, and they charged me as much as if it had had flavor and nic in it. I paid them $14.00 for 30mls. I later paid Essential Depot $14.00 for a quart, or 946.352946mls. I won't be doing that again!

Good luck and have fun!

When I first started DIY e-liquid I was a bit apprehensive but then was shocked how easy it was.

I use Wizard Labs for PG/VG and Nicotine ( which I read you won't need ). They also sell flavors and supplies that you'll need. I look for the best deals on the Internet for amber and plastic bottles, syringes, ect.

Start out simple....1 flavor. Fruits are the easiest....very little steep time.

Here's a great calculator you can download for free ( play with it before doing any DIY e-liquid ). Make sure to fill in all the needed fields to calculate for your e-liquid -

eJuice Me Up - Best eJuice Calculator

Good Luck to You!!!

I'm going to start DIY soon and am compiling a list of what I need from Wizard labs. I've seen the calculators and watched a few youtubes and it all seems easy.

But...when I first started vaping 4 weeks ago I bought my liquids at a local shop that mix right there. They have probably 40 varieties and I found 3 that I like; that's it. I recently got a sampler pack from NicQuids and am blown away by the intense flavor of their Blueberry, Bannana Nut Bread and Sinnamon. That's what I want to make but am afraid I'll end up making juice like my local shop...not very good.

Anyway, I'm gonna dive in.

I probably haunted this forum, wavered between trying it and putting it off till later, and generally saying "yeah someday" for probably a good six months. When I finally took the plunge, I'd read so much on here, I had a pretty good plan in place. I started off with a simple but really popular recipe from here and when I vaped it, my first thought was OMG..I can DO this! I've only been at it about 2 months now, but I haven't bought a single vendor juice since. I'm still working on the stash I already had now and then, but I really prefer my own stuff.

My first recipe was from the Rwhy4 thread..a slight tweak on the original. Someone else came up with it and I'd really love to give them credit if I could find the specific post. Whoever you are, THANK YOU..and this is NOT my creation:

TFA RY4 double 10%
TFA Vanilla Swirl 5%
TFA Caramel Candy 5%

That probably won't make a lot of sense to you at this point, but when you're ready to start plugging numbers into your DIY calculator (which I HIGHLY recommend you get one of) it will. Try it..if you like carmel-y vanilla-y type stuff at all, this will be a win and give you some confidence. Even simpler, you could get a bottle of Capella Sweet Strawberry and mix at at about 12% since you like fruity. If it isn't strong enough, add more.

Start simple, avoid starter kits because they contain a ton of stuff you don't need, and read read read here. Youtube is good too if you're a visual learner.

I'm not sure I'll ever buy vendor again. I'm saving money, AND have a fun new hobby. Even if you don't go whole hog and get into the hobby, mixing up 2-3 of your favorite stuff every couple of weeks is for sure worth the savings. I'd say on average, 12-15 bucks a 30 mL depending on who you are buying vendor juice from.

Sorry for the length, I'm still in my mixing honeymoon phase and still can't get over the time and money I wasted :D
