it took me a few weeks to finally stop analogs i think it would have been faster if i had of gotten a real ecig to start with,
i started with a cigalike (a blu) it just could not keep up with my habit so i had to still smoke once in awile.
i finally found a ego kit after a few weeks at a local shop.
i have had alot of new ecigs since then trying to find the perfect vape for me but the ego is a great kit for a beginner/moderate user and was enough to keep me from going back to analogs.

Wasn't planning/trying to quit
- within a few days without trying I was down from a pack and a half per day to less than 10 (about 6 - 8) ... at that time I realized I might actually be able to quit smoking
- by about the 10th day I had a couple of days without a cigarette but getting problematic symptoms so decided to taper off more slowly, went back to about 4 - 5 a day
- made a few changes and now down to about 1-1/2 to 2 per day

Different people seem to find different ways to quit suit them best - whether you choose to stop right away or taper off you are sure to find people here who can share their experiences with you. Good luck!

While I already answered the direct question, I neglected to provide inspiration.

I jumped in with both feet. I traded an old cowboy his original rough stack, a couple of batts, a 60ml bottle of chinese juice, a couple of well used attys, and a hand carved drip tip for a lariat he admired after he saw it hanging in my truck. It was the best barter I've ever done.

I took straight to vaping and put my pack of camels in the glove box never to be seen again until I threw them on my desk a few weeks ago,,, and then just tossed them in the rubbish bin a couple of days ago.

OK Now for the inspiration part: A couple of times a month, i visit a friend I've known for about 35 or so years. When I go to his house, he pours me a nice glass of top shelf whiskey and takes a box of expensive cigars down from the humidor. We had a habit of sitting on the porch sipping whiskey and enjoying a fine cigar. Well... I went over 10 days after giving up tobacco. Our ritual went fine until I had to refuse my cigar. That was a tough evening drinking lots of good whiskey and smelling that $230 cigar for what seemed like hours.

That was extra-tough and i almost caved in for a nice cigar. As a double whammy, he also smokes my sister's brand of cigarette (I've bummed hundreds of cigarettes off my older sister over the years - I like them). He lit up while walking me out to the driveway and saying 'good evening drive safe' to my wife and offering me a cigarette out of his pack. The smell of the Marlboro light was double tough to walk away from. But, i did.

I managed it. those few hours were plenty difficult, but once they had passed, I never had such a problem again. I had to stay strong just that once and then my subconscious mind figured out I didn't need tobacco any more. After that, I never even noticed so much as the mildest pang or jones for an analog. My vape gets the job done.

I can't say I've stopped because although I havent had cigarette for 7 days the thought of saying I'd stopped on this thread caused me to think that I wanted one. Addiction is a tricky thing.
I think the magic is in letting yourself have one because as you say....they are gross when compared to any vaping juice you can buy.
Eventually I hope that I just wont want another smelly cigarette.
