how long after starting vaping did you stop smoking analogs?

one thing i admire from this forum is the saying.. its not the cigarettes you do smoke.. but the ones you dont. i have not smoked 30 cigarettes a day because of ecigs... one day i will smoke none.

Ye, i could'nt agree more, it's such a nice spirit here, not really used to it from other forums :)

And that's so true, it's not really that important if you dont quit smoking directly or if u have a fallback after a while, It's that u actually try and learn from it, and the analogs you dont smoke are alot more important than the one's u do smoke.

I can't say I've stopped because although I havent had cigarette for 7 days the thought of saying I'd stopped on this thread caused me to think that I wanted one. Addiction is a tricky thing.

Definitely tricky. Makes for an odd little dance. I found something to serve as an "ashtray" to rest the cig-a-like widget in. Put it where the ashtray for the regular cigs would go here on my desk, next to the computer. There's so much habit and ritual and psychological stuff going in smoking. I'm discovering it helps to "psych out" my own brain. Catch myself sometimes even "flicking" ashes that don't exist into the little thing that's not actually an ashtray. :)

But it works. I'm so used to reaching for that particular spot to pick up a cylindrical object and get nicotine out of it that I do it without even being all that conscious of it. I put the one pack of regular cigs and the lighters and all into a cabinet in the kitchen. I'll still let myself have one but it's not the convenient choice anymore. Sometimes, now, when I get that "but I wanna real one" urge, I can pass. Think, "nah, come on, I'm in the middle of something, just grab the vapor thingie, it's right here".

maybe this last pack i have on my desk will be the last? u never know. God knows a week ago i wanted to have 3 packs there for one night and one pack would not still be sitting there after 3 days...

You know, I've deliberately decided to not think about it. You know how stress makes you want to smoke? I'm the kind that would smoke because I'm stressed about trying to quit smoking. :)

I'm making myself pay more attention to how many tobacco cigs I have not smoked. And that number is climbing. A lot. I figure by now (today marks an official week) I have not smoked a carton worth. So easily over 200 in the "not" column now.

Funny thing? My taste is slowly starting to come back a bit. And regular cigs don't taste so good. That helps. Then about Friday or so, I thought to use my own habits against myself. Put the one tobacco cig pack (and I only allow one pack in the house at a time now) and the ashtray and the lighters in the kitchen, in a cabinet. The vape stuff goes in the two spots I was most likely to smoke out of habit without thinking (next to the computer and in the living room next to my usual spot to watch TV and stuff).

I'm watching for ways to make the vaping the convenient one and the "real" cigs the inconvenient. Not try to stress myself with a "NO! YOU CAN'T HAVE ONE!" but arrange things so the vaping is the easy route.

Seems to help. While writing this post, I had a "I wanna real cig" urge. Thought, "oh come on, they're in the kitchen and they don't taste so good and they stink, I don't wanna, look, the e-cig is right here." And didn't get up didn't get a "real" cig. That seems to happen a little more often as the days go by...

i picked up an rn4081 and finished my last pack of cigs, so about 2 hours. Used that for 4 months while gradually lowering my nic to 0. then i quit all together. I did not smoke once for nearly 4.5 years then y wife left and i picked up smoking for about a month, then took up vaping again..been vaping ever since.

I first started using my PV again on Tuesday 30th October in the hairdressers but I felt really uncomfortable. On Saturday 3rd November whilst at some friends' house, there was a small child upstairs and I didn't want to keep going outside, letting the cold air in and making a noise, hence why I had thought to take my PV with me. On Saturday 4th, I drove the 250mile journey home and alternated between PV and cig. I realised that actually it was a viable alternative for me and kicked myself for not returning to it sooner. The big change (I had used an Ego-t a year before and failed) was the size; I prefer my 510 Penstyle.

I downloaded an app for my Android called Cigarette Assistant which allows you to set a maximum amount of cigarettes you can smoke in a day and times you in between. Every time you have a cigarette, you hit the button, it counts a cigarette and resets the timer. It became a game very quickly. 'Today, I'll have 5 but tomorrow I'll aim for 3!' This is very much of the philosophy that you should count the cigarettes you DON'T smoke rather than those you do. It's a beautifully optimistic way of looking at it and it certainly helps.

My last day as a smoker was 20th November 2012 and my last cigarette was at noon. I had hovered around only having one cigarette a day, that first one on a morning, for over a week and was recommended to use 24mg of juice and my usual 18mg throughout the rest of the day. It worked and the following day I didn't need a cigarette. I felt pig-sick all day though on a rough combination of 'that time of the month', antibiotics for a nasty mouth infection and my first day of non-smoking.

So I guess it took me 3 weeks but everyone is different. The beauty of PVs over other types of tobacco cessation is that this is entirely up to you. You don't have a doctor breathing down you neck and telling you what to do. If it feels right, that's what you do. You up your nicotine, you lower your nicotine... You are Goldilocks!x

It took me about 5 days. When I got my first kit (ordered from Vapor4Life), I knew right away that it could work. But I immediately ordered some 24mg cartos, sensing that the 18mg I had ordered weren't quite doing it - they took a few days to arrive. I tried to only have a cig only when I felt I really needed one, and each day this number dwindled. I tried to put off the first one of the day further and further, and one day I didn't get around to lighting up. I carried cigarettes with me for a couple weeks, as I knew they would be a temptation anywhere I went. It was satisfying to look at them and think, "No thanks". I still have a few dusty packs out in the garage.

Both my wife and I were able to quit immediately. Neither of us has ever wanted a cig since we bought our eGo setups, and we smoked for decades. We generally stick with 12mg juice, but I like to hit on 16mg or 18mg now and then. My plan is to gradually reduce the nic to near-zero, maybe zero. It works!

I smoked analogs and vaped together for about a month before i totally made the switch to JUST vaping. That was almost 3 years ago. I tried a cig about a year ago, and it was not the same lol. After using a mod for quite some time, it felt like i was smoking air. I was wondering where the clouds of vapor were, cause there was so little smoke lol. Smoking could never cut it for me anymore, and good thing. My health thanks me everyday =)

Once I had my ego twists and a juice I half-liked, it took me about 10 days.

I would have quit sooner if my vape equipment and juice had been right in the first place, but that took a little fiddlin' and testing.

At that point I just promised myself I would never buy another pack of cigarettes and/or roll your own. I had to make sure to make this pact with myself, as otherwise I might have been tempted a few times, but I remembered my promise.

I think it is different for everybody, but I do think there is a point at which a "decision" must be made.

I bought a SafeCig kit after seeing a friend with one and trying his. When it came in, I put down tobacco cigs and used SafeCig full time. After 5 days, I failed.

I decided to use the SafeCigs in addition to tobacco cigs. For 6 months I used the SafeCigs in the house, in bed, out where I can't smoke, etc....and would puff an analog outside when I had a chance. I eventually switched to V2, and was using the eCig more and more. I went from a PAD tobacco smoker, to buying a pack every 3 to 4 days. Then one day (June 15, 2012), without any thought or planning or anticipation, I simply didn't go buy more tobacco cigs.

Over the next month (using V2 Reds) I vaped pretty heavily. I would get cravings as the eCigs weren't quite the same as a tobacco cig, but close....sorta like the difference between Coke and Diet Coke. When a craving would hit, I'd just vape a bit more at the moment and the craving would ease. This went on for a couple months, with the cravings becoming lesser in intensity and fewer between.

Now, just 5 days shy of the 9 month mark, I no longer get any cravings for analog smokes. People that smoke them smell really bad! The smoke from them is starting to smell bad as well. I switched from the V2 Reds to an eGo-U, 900maH battery and 1.8 CE4 clearomizer. Massive upgrade in quality of the experience! Refills are small bottles of juice instead of $60 for cartomizers. Plus, various flavors are available in an incredible assortment. (although I prefer tobacco flavors, Sweet Virginia to be specific)

My suggestion: Ease into it. Whatever vaping solution you choose, as long as it's right for you and you like it, is just fine. Use both eCigs and analogs together and gradually wean yourself off......if you're having trouble of course, otherwise go for it full throttle. Good luck, you CAN make it!

I still smoke analog cigarettes, but hoping to not buy anymore after what I have is gone. I seriously hope that the vaping alone will keep me off the cigarettes. My sons future father-in-law quit smoking right before Christmas last year and he started vaping. He said he doesn't really even crave cigarettes anymore. He is the one that got me to try out the vaping. We have a local vape shop just about 2 or 3 miles from me. Very convenient to have them so close if I didn't have to go up such a huge flight of steps to get to them, LOL!!!:)

It took me 3 days to quit the stinkies. That's after 45 years + of smoking, It wasn't always easy, but I've been smokefree for over a year & a half. I haven't craved a cigarette in a very, very long time, but I do crave a vape, occasionally. I can, at times go a very long time without vaping. I never could do that smoking.

Rule #1, don't put pressure on yourself, period. Rule #2, the OP already stated, count the cigs you didn't smoke, not the ones you did. To me that is the most freeing sentence anyone can say. That says you only need to be good, but don't have to be perfect. That takes off a lot of pressure (back to Rule #1.)

OP, good luck in your quest, I feel that you WILL succeed. Keep on Vapin'.
