how long after starting vaping did you stop smoking analogs?

I like this idea. I'm on Day 1 of vaping and already without even trying I've probably smoked half of what I normally would have, perhaps less. I have a clean new ashtray up in the kitchen cupboard and I currently have a cig-a-like right now. I'm going to try this as I'm very guilty of the mindless smoking thing since I'm a gamer. Sometimes I'll chain smoke and not realize it when I'm all angry that I'm dealing with a bunch of n00bs in a warzone....lol.

Heh, yep. And reaching for the cig only half aware of it. I'm not a gamer but it's what I do at the computer. It's just so second nature. So much so, like I said, I was "flicking" ashes that didn't exist. Didn't realize it for a while then laughed when I saw myself do it.

One piece of advice, put the lighters somewhere else. I haven't tried lighting my cig-a-like yet but I have fished for a lighter more than once. :)

It's Day 1 for me and I'm currently probably about half and half. I've been reading the hell out of this forum though and am very inspired.

I'm still amazed. I haven't escaped the regular cigs yet but my use of them fell right off a cliff. And I was not a light smoker. I'm still new myself. Been at this a week and half about. Normally, I'd be plowing through my second carton. As it is, I have a half pack in the kitchen cabinet that'll probably last the rest of the week.

I think since I'm new and still figuring this out, the cartomizers I have don't have quite the level of nicotine I need. Some folks around here pointed out a place not too far from me I need to get to soon (but it'll be a couple of days so I'll make do). And I need to learn to do my own fills. I'm going through cartomizers awful fast right now. Gotta be trying to get to whatever level of nicotine I'm used to and can't quite make it.

My only question at this point now since I am willing to make the investment beyond what I already have is:

Do I spring for the Provari and clearo/tank now to start off with a good mod that will really kick me off it, or do I get a cheaper but reliable mod (eGo/Spinner) and then maybe pop for a Provari later? Either way, glad to see this level of success. The positivity and helpfulness of this forum I am sure is a nice contributing factor.

Here, I'll defer to the many experienced folk around the forum. I'm still learning too.

as someone earlier said, had i gotten a good vaping machine in the first place, i'd have quit stinkies right away. but as it was, i was mired in ecig wannabe hell for a couple months. every time the battery would poop out, i went and bought a pack of marlboros. once i got my ego twist 1000 set up tho, i dropped the stinkies like yesterday's fish.

I was really lucky. I went into this with the attude that if I could just cut down by 1/2 I would be money ahead. As it turned out after getting my mail at 6:00 PM and putting everything together, and taking my first vape at 6:20 PM, I have not looked back and not wanted a analog. Hope you have as good of luck as I have.

Had I had a stronger unit than what I have, and more juice, etc....that may very well have been the case for me. The Halo is performing well certainly for a cig-a-like, but it's not holding up to fighting off the cravings well enough just yet. I'm not concerned though, my initial analog consumption has dropped by about 50% on the FIRST DAY.

And I've got more vape mail coming. And then a lil more. And then probably some more after that. So I'm not concerned.

Sorry about hijacking the thread a bit and talking about products instead of inspiration. It would be MUCH easier though for anyone reading this thread though to realize that starting with a more powerful unit even though it doesn't look like a cig (eGo, Vision Spinner, VAMO, whatever) will serve you FAR better than most of the cig-a-likes. Even good ones.

Aw, come on, I like cig-a-likes. :)

Yeah, I had to get a pass through for sitting at the computer because, well, batteries. But there's one thing about the cig-a-like I gotta defend. There's that whole psychological and habitual thing about smoking. I even--no, seriously, I did this--got a clean ashtray to set the Blu in. Put it right where I would usually have the ashtray for the stink stick. I figured since I reach for a cylindrical object in that particular spot without even thinking about it and take a drag to get some nicotine, I'd fake myself out.

It worked for me. I even caught myself flicking ashes off the Blu. :)

I suspect for me (and maybe others) the imitation of the analogs can help. At least to start. My pass through is great because, well, batteries but it's just not a Real Cigarette. Still have to grab the cig-a-like sometimes to have the "cigarette experience".

Yeah, as my habits change, I may abandon cig-a-likes totally. But for now, it fits some need for my old "ritual" and habits and such. Which is a lot better than the gum or patch. Those give you the nicotine but I was miserable. This was pretty easy. Though I still sometimes sneak a stinky (better than having two packs of them a day though).

Heh, maybe cig-a-likes are "training wheels". :)

@HK,

Okay bro, while I agree with you mostly, I would say that one shouldn't be down on cig-a-likes as a class. They won't work for me, and I assume they don't cut it for you. That said, I smoked a pipe at 1/2oz a day of tobacco (I have no idea how many packs of cigarettes that is). So for us, a cig-a-like isn't ever going to cut it (except as a fall back--for example I keep some Njoy Kings in my car and in my wife's car for those "just in case" situations).

That said, they can and do work for some people (primarily people who were/are lighter smokers). I have also found that cig-a-likes are a great introductory tool for smokers who would like to quit smoking but have a difficult time actually doing it (like I was--but I'm not a smoker any more in my mind). It takes some chutzpah to jump in with both feet and had the Njoy King not existed I never would have contemplated vaping. I have a rather interesting story about how I came to try those out but this thread is probably not the place for that.

Oh yeah don't misunderstand me I'm not downing cigalikes at all. I have gone through 2 brands of them (Blu, with less than favorable results but I still did quit cigs for about a month on it and it was a crap system) and the Halo G6 which has impressed me for sure for a cigalike.

If you're a heavier smoker though of a pack a day plus, most of the time those cigalikes just won't cut it. They still have their uses though, they're smaller and convenient. Great for on the go or in the car or whatever.

I bought my Halo G6 knowing it wasn't going to be the full answer, but I wanted to get off the analogs or at least cut down a lot. The Halo got me started, and for a lighter smoker it might be a perfectly excellent solution. For a heavier smoker, not so much. This of course is why there are so many varieties of ecigs out there, so that everyone can find their own sort of balance.

Cigalikes are a GREAT place to start and you kind of aptly put it that they're a nice intro to the e-cig world. For some folks, they might be perfectly content with that. For others, they need more. I'm just one of those folks who needed more.

Part of the addiction to tobacco lies in the ritual aspect of it. The habit of reaching toward the ashtray, or sparking up in the car. Or having one right after a meal, or smoking more when you drink coffee or alcohol. Smoking more when you're stressed, etc. It's a great first step to just change the delivery system from analogs to a cigalike, and then work on breaking the links to other things that kept you smoking without thinking about it, or things you associate with smoking.

However, if you can make the jump to something somewhat more powerful and you're a heavier smoker, you'll probably be more satisfied in the long run. That's all I was saying. My Halo kit wasn't a waste, but already it's a backup to my eGo's, and I've used it already this week to show a friend and let him try it out to see if he likes e-cigs.

Good, I think you understand where I'm coming from. I personally don't care what type of PV someone uses as long as it makes them happy. That said if a neophyte (and I'm still a neophyte myself) were to ask my advice as to what kind of PV to get I would recommend an ego style. They have many options from color to attys, cartos, clearos, tanks and so on, also they are pretty cheap. I kind of consider the basic ego type to be the Honda Civic or Toyota Carola of PVs. (If we were to use a comparison to cars--a good way to explain what I was looking for to my non-smoking/non-vaping wife.)

As to the ritual, yes that can be rather difficult, but my personal experience was that one adapts quickly. Vaping is objectively and subjectively superior to smoking.

Funnily enough I store my juices in tobacco jars that I used when I smoked, though I changed out my ashtrays, I personally don't like keeping my PVs in an ashtray the shape isn't right--though larger shot glass or a rocks glass works very well for me. I do however keep my clearomizers in an ashtray, but that particular ashtray only works as it is shaped like a scallop shell. Though I did commender, from my mother, a make up catcher that my grandmother used that works well to store condoms, cartos, drip tips and other incidental equipment.

That seems exactly what it is for me big time. Something about "cig-a-likes" being closer to my old habit made a big difference. I tried the gum and the patches and got the nicotine but still went back to smoking. Even though a lot of my smoking was habit and rote, when I could sit down in the morning with coffee and smoke or after a meal, I enjoyed it.

I can see myself drifting away from the cigarette "form" over time but it seems to be an important part of making the "jump" to e-cigs. I haven't quite left cigs completely but I find I don't like them as much anymore. Had one today and kind of regretted it. They taste awful now. :)

I seem to need my ritual...

new to this.. looking for inspiration :)
I'm 58. Started smoking when I was 10. Averaged 1 1/2 packs a day for 48 years. Picked up a Blu kit and immediately found out it wasn't gonna get it. Ordered an eGo kit 3 days later and some Vision Clearomizers along with a good assortment of juices. 3 days later when they arrived, I smoked my last cigarette. Been totally cigarette free 33 days today. Never looked back and don't plan to.
