True. What I was thinking while speaking to my cousin (who had the "too much effort" reaction) was "It's also too much effort to get chemo and lug around an oxygen bottle, but whatevs, dude."

I know, right? I think people who take that position are really saying they lack self confidence. But, hey, I may not have been ready for this a year ago.

BUT-- if someone had convinced me to try it, t's hard to believe that I could've gone back. I didn't order my PV to quit. As I said earlier, it wasn't exactly a good time. I'd read enough about e-cigs to get kind of excited about it, but-- typical smoker's mentality-- I didn't actually believe they could replace cigarettes, although I hoped they would help. Wow, was I surprised!

I'm just coming up on week five and I'm already way over $100 to the positive side. This includes starting DIY and buying all supplies, purchasing three big batts, 3 more cig-alikes for at the computer and in the garden use (I won't push a button with muddy hands), and more trial flavors than I can count.

Cigs in Pennsylvania are now $8.50 (American dollars) per pack. That's still better than New York State, apparently. Other states are higher or lower depending on the laws.

Week 5-- woot! Congrats on that. I just passed week 5 vaping, although I've only been cig-free for a week and a half. Cut down by more than half the first 4 weeks, which kept about $80 in my pocket. Now I'm raking it in to the tune of $40/week. I figure juice will average about $30/month, so yeah, I'm pretty happy.

In Canada the better brands cost $13-$14/pack. That's what I paid until a few months ago, when I moved to a small town where nobody sells B&H. Good thing, too, because I had no idea you could get John Players for $10. After awhile they didn't even taste bad to me. :)

I've been thinking about picking up some of those cig-alikes just to make my life a bit easier when I'm out and about. Didn't occur to me that they'd be handy in the garden-- very smart!

Two so far, my wife and my other best friend.

But I'm about to convert 25 more, employees. I'm putting together an order to China for an Ego 650mah style kit, Vivi Nova Mini's, Chrome trim rings and chrome contour drip tips that will make two complete chrome ego rigs, a dripper and a tanker. I've started a thread in the co-op section to see if anyone else wants to buy some of these kits at cost for wives/lovers/friends/employees to help spread the love. The thread is here:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...inished-complete-starter-sets-vivi-minis.html

If anyone is interested, I'll do all the footwork and take the risks of a China order on behalf of my employees. I just found out I'll save 30 cents a unit if I order 100 instead of 25, and that savings will go towards reducing the costs my employees rigs. so if there is any interest in getting a two chrome rig EGO type setups for $38 delivered to you, shoot me a PM or better yet, post in the thread so I can gauge interest. They'll make great Christmas gifts for those you love enough to save.

Wow, good for you! I may be interested and I have some questions but I'll go check out your thread instead of posting here. I'd also love to find out how it all works out.

I haven't converted anyone, but I am a convert myself. A couple of months ago, I stopped by a buddy of mine's house to have a couple of beers and shoot the breeze...like me, he was always a heavy smoker and I found it odd that I didn't see him smoking at all when I had already puffed down a few cigs. I noticed that he kept putting this thing in his mouth, but we were in the garage and I just thought it was a small screwdriver or something.

So finally, I was like, "hey...what's up, you quit smoking or something?" To my surprise, he said, "actually, yeah...I'm doing the e-cig and I've been smoke free for a week." Now, as long as I've known him, he's always been a heavy smoker...at least as heavy as me, and we had both tried to quit on several occasions, only to have it last a matter of hours or a couple of days. Needless to say, I was impressed!

A few more weeks went by and I got in touch with him again...just inquiring as to how the whole "e-cig thing" was going, fully expecting him to say..."meh...short lived and I'm back to my 2 PAD." Again, to my surprise, he was still smoke free and really talking it up...talking about how great he felt, etc. Well, that really got me to thinking about how that could be me. I was already in one of my "I really need to quit moods" and I just dove right in. I just went with the same kit he had...he seemed happy with it and it was working. Now...I'm loving it and have been smoke free a couple of weeks myself!

Ironically, I don't actually know a lot of smokers...weird being that I was one for so long, but I guess I was always kind of the black sheep and didn't know it. The few smokers that I do know, I'm definitely talking my PV up and all of the benefits so far...there's some interest there, but they just don't seem to be ready to put down the cigs. I know the feeling, had I not already been in an "I need to quit this crap" mode to begin with, I doubt I would have been as responsive to my buddy.

For the first two weeks I was steadily reducing the cigs, and if the cravings get absolutely overwhelming I have one. The last one was last night, the first in four days. Before that, I went another four days.

So I wouldn't say I'm a hundred percent quit. However, more than 100 hours between is certainly an extreme reduction from 2.5 packs a day!

Or cooking, or really any place where both hands are occupied. They're not a great solution, have low battery power, weaker vapor, but they do the trick for the time periods when I absolutely don't want to be messing up a larger and more expensive device. I don't worry so much about getting a little mud on an auto Bloog I got on-sale for $8.

That's an awesome story. I totally agree - you have to be in that place already to take the jump. I had tried last winter, and got to four cigs a day with gum, but it wasn't fun at all. Stress and too busy overcame that attempt, and I'd been dreading the next quit attempt. All the while starting to really resent giving so much money to a pretty shady industry. So when I stumbled on these things (thank you, internet!), I was pretty excited. Wary, as I think anyone who's tried quitting would be, but cautiously optimistic. Read some success stories here, and figured I could probably at least cut back, if they didn't feel too much like smoking lights :)

Anyway, now I'm just rambling 'cause I'm in bed and happily vaping and feeling the word spread.

I only have 1 confirmed convert, but what a die hard she is! I actually sat with her for four hours showing her how to use the device after she told me she was interested. The next day, I called to see how it was going, and she told me that she couldn't stand cigarettes anymore! She said she tried to smoke one when she got up and it just tasted nasty bad. Now she was a 2 pad smoker for over 20 years, smoked everywhere (including in the house), and never could quit with anything that is on the market for smoking cessation. Her SO still smokes like a chimney (yes, still in the house too!), but she absolutely refuses to pick up another cigarette. I guess she says what really helped her is that I am always just a call away if she has an equipment or juice malfunction. I mix her juice for her, so I can adjust when she does have issues, and she has had some (mostly of the gassy variety, men may enjoy that, but women do not like being avoided like the plague!). She has gone 1 year and 3 months, so I know there is no turning back for her.

As for others, I have tried to convert my hubby, sister, and numerous coworkers, but I seem to have failed. At the very least, I tried, and answer any questions people shoot at me on the e-cig (I have 1 hangout where the smokers miserably file by to freeze while having a smoke, while I happily vape away indoors sipping my cocktail, with the owner's permission of course) and I do get questioned sometimes. Like others have stated, we can only sow the seed, we cannot force anyone into submission ;).

I love stories like that. Kinda feels good, doesn't it? My SO was totally converted on Day One, too. I immediately cut down from half a pack to 2-3, but it took me about 3 weeks to quit (as soon as my stock of cigarettes ran out). No confirmed converts, yet, but we have two people in the wings and one who's ordering his gear this weekend.

Nice! I know that as much as I love vaping now, that's nothing compared to how I'm going to feel when it's -20 degrees C.

None yet. Have been trying to get my sister on the train, but no luck so far. My parents bought her an ecig a few years back and she didn't like it, so she already is doubtful about it.

Don't see her often enough to drive it home I guess. Also, I am much more "gadget" friendly then she is, so that probably is an issue with her.

Wow I guess the tax went up again? Haven't smoked since early August, in fact haven't even looked at the cigarette cabinet while paying for gas.
Have you always lived in PA?, moved to the Poconos 8 years ago and immediately noticed, unlike in NJ, EVERYBODY smoked.

Anyway I'm in the process of getting my sister in law and friend to quit. Sister and law and her husband are trying to have another child and just think it would be safer if they were both smoke free. They are coming up on Sunday and I had an idea. I'm going to have an arrangement of my original analog looking batteries with cartomizers. Egos with cartos and vivi novas filled and my provari with a few vivi novas filled and let them use all of them throughout the day and see if they like it first off and which ones they are comfortable with. I know at first when using the analog looking battery, I would watch youtube videos and see people using egos and mods and say "thats weird, its not like smoking anymore" then I got an ego and understood :)

Some slightly off-Broadway brands are $6.50, but that's about the best you can do. Although I haven't priced generics personally!

And yes, up in the foothills with the banjo music, everybody smokes. I'm actually in the Lehigh Valley, which is pretty citified and lacks the banjo population, so the proportion is about what you'd expect in most places.
