I did it within 1 month in '09. I was blaming the nicotine but it was actually PG I had a problem with.
I did it within 2 months in '12 (mostly, still used low nic in the AM). You might have Crohn's, you have to quit nicotine. Assorted diagnoses later I was working up to 18mg because it helped.
I did it slowly over many months in '15 when my diagnosis was changed to Crohn's for sure and I went on stronger meds, just because I wanted to try it. It took that long to use up my liquids mixing them down. I went back to 6mg because I found it still helped.
I went to 0mg instantly in '17 because Neurosurgeon insisted it was bad for bone healing (cervical fusion). I agreed for the 3 months but would go back if it made me flare. (Actually the animal studies and human Snus study suggests nicotine helps bones heal stronger vs non-tobacco users in reasonable amounts, it's only overdosing rats that it makes it worse, and actual tobacco smoke is worse.)

I went back to 6mg and then up to 10mg a few months ago. I like the flavor of some nicotine better.

I went from 24mg down to 0mg in 2 or 3 months several years ago. Zero nic was boring so I went up to 3mg. I've been there for years with no problems. I recently mixed some 6mg and 9mg to see if there was a difference in my daily eliquid vaping. There wasn't a noticeable change. I vaped about 10ml of juice daily before, during, and after the nic change.

It's funny, with the med change I instantly went from 18mg (I quit with 11mg, it was hard getting to 18mg and I stayed there for 3 years) to 9mg cutting all my liquids in half. No increase. After I was about halfway through my liquids I cut them to 4mg. No increase. Then when they were used up 0mg about doubled my liquid intake.

There's never been any withdrawal symptoms other than 0mg makes my intake go up.

I really wonder how many vapors drop their nicotine level with time...
How about you?

I have dropped from 12mg to 6mg in about a month. Not because I consider Nicotine harmful but because I vape a lot and Nicotine is probably the most expensive ingredient in DIY e-liquid making (I like Nicotine Salts but those are more expensive than regular one ). I found out that I am getting a little better flavor with lower nicotine... for a while I was making my juice 3mg but recently increased it back to 5-6mg...

It is not the nicotine in cigarette smoke that causes cancer. Nicotine keep you smoking, but it is the other bad chemicals in cigarettes that make smoking so dangerous.

Studies show that nicotine prevents the development of ulcerative colitis and nicotine is a Preventative and Treatment for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Nicotine Helps in Weight and Insulin Control...nicotine has been shown to suppress appetite and reduce obesity... nicotine significantly improves blood sugar balance

Research has confirmed positive psychiatric effects of nicotine: It has been shown to improve cognition, memory, attention and mood, as well as reduce anxiety. Levels of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin all increase with nicotine usage.

Of course Nicotine like any other substances have some undesirable side effects... "The dose makes the poison"-

Nicotine, in part through the release of adrenaline, can increase heart rate and blood pressure. So do caffeine in coffee and tea...Although animal studies have raised the possibility that these changes may damage the blood vessels, potentially leading to cardiovascular disease, the limited data in humans have not confirmed this risk. There are no well-documented serious harmful effects of non-tobacco nicotine products...

... but...Nicotine restrict and decreases blood flow to the gums and this means it can mask signs of periodontal disease. Vapers who use a high amount of nicotine should be aware of it and counterattack it with good oral higiene regular dental check ups and consuming a lot of vitamin C... yes, vitamin C plus magnesium supplements (not a Calcium) and xylitol mouthwash is IMHO the best way to avoid dental problems... much more healthy and effective than fluoridated tooth paste, listerine or any alcohol based mouthwash.

Dropped from 12 to 6 maybe 2 years ago. I vape a lot more liquid since I dropped my nic level.

Thinking of trying 0 mg - maybe I’ll try pure VG from Walmart as a test - since I’m restarting a single-tooth implant procedure and in the last couple of days I’ve been reading that nicotine inhibits bone growth. The first implant failed to take - wobbly with tissue on one side of the implant - so it’s being redone.

Maybe I should try 50/50 PG/VG so I’ll at least get a throat hit...?

It's actually the smoking. I don't think nicotine alone is in popular enough use to make a meaningful development study (I also question the "development" studies).
Nicotine alone isn't effective for treatment like smoking often is, it takes nicotine and 5asa. I've known people with surgery scheduled have it canceled just by taking up a few cigarettes a day. (Like me and nicotine helping Crohn's with 5asa , I do know people who have avoided added drug treatment with UC using nicotine, everybody doesn't follow the trends.)

in the last couple of days I’ve been reading that nicotine inhibits bone growth.

You might find these interesting.

The 2nd one is a big PDF, someone's PhD thesis. Very interesting conglomeration of the animal studies about nicotine and bones.

My vaping journey (so far...) has been 18mg/mL, to 24mg/ml, to 18, to 12, to 9, to 6, to dabbling with 4, back up to 18mg/mL.

I wanted to drop/eliminate nic, for both cost, and to say I am stronger than this monkey, that has been riding my back for the last 3+ decades. Dropping wasn't the issue... I was comfortable enough. However, my liquid consumption went through the roof. As a byproduct, I started getting that same morning hack, and heavy chest, that smoking had given me.

I tripled my nicotine, and reduced my liquid consumption to 1/4 of what I was previously using. The morning cough, and heavy chest/lungs, went away. I am satisfied............. for now. ;):D

I have absolutely NO desire to drop the nic personally. I have to agree with many of the folks above. I can drop my nic level pretty significantly, but then I chain vape like crazy.

I would rather vape higher nic juice, and go through less juice volume each day. If I can get by vaping 1/2 the volume of liquid by upping the nic level, then that works for me.

I DIY, and use 12mg juice when I use MTL for stealth vaping. My daily and normal juice was 3mg for DL use, but I was going though about 20mls/day. I know many folks vape much more liquid that that. I've recently increased to 4mg, and I'm down to about 12ml/day. Going to shoot for 4.5mg next time, and may up it a little more if I need to. Would prefer to be at about 10ml/day or less. I'm almost there.

If I can satisfy my nic habit and consume 1/2 the quantity of juice volume, I'm all for it. Plus it's nice not having to fiend for my next vape and know that I'm satisfied longer between vapes.

I started at 24, dropped to 18, then 12, then I think 6 but might have been 9 for a while. I vaped about 4-5 mls a day.

I was still doing 6 in the mtl when I got a subohm, and used 3 in that. Did this for the longest time, still about 4-5 mls a day.

I tried zero, but it didn’t work for me. I’m honestly not on a zero nic journey. I didn’t even start vaping to quit smoking, but rather to not smoke as much and so I wouldn’t have to go outside and freeze to smoke in the winter. But I did quit, zero cigarettes for 4 years.

Fell off the wagon last winter though, so I’m using 3, 6 and 9 trying to get quit again and for good. Going through about 10 mls a day now.

Normally I would say, I’d prefer higher nic and using less juice, but for now, more juice, more vaping is working for me, and higher nic ( like 6 mg in a dripper, 9 mtl) to power through the tough craves. 4 Days, no smokes!

I seem to be like the majority of people who've answered so far. I've decreased it a lot, but not to zero. A few years ago I went from 24+ to 2 over about six months with no particular distress. Then I dropped to zero. I'm not entirely sure why that only lasted a week. I didn't really have cravings, but I wanted the nicotine feeling. I've been at 2.4 for the last two years or so with no desire for further experimentation.

I am leery of dropping my nic to soon. Maybe after a year passes. To be quite honest, I'm glad I haven't put pressure on myself to do so. I never even thought I would get to VAPING alone, and I'm just enjoying the ride so far. I'm satiated and satisfied, I don't quite see the point as of yet (especially given nic has benefits, too, and many of those benefits run in my family.

I imagine at some point I will start to drop, but I'm not sure how much, and I don't want to see my liquid intake increase. I will likely go very very small, as far as dropping it, if and when I decide to.

There are lots of smokers who have gotten to very low or even 0 nic, or even have given up vaping successfully.

Until and unless it becomes my best interest to try and remove nicotine entirely, well, I'll decide at that point. I would be too afraid that lowering my nic to 0 would cause me to return to smoking.

However, everyone's different. If it's your desire to drop, I'm quite sure you can make it work for you, one way or another. Etc.

Anna
