Outside of my B&M, I have only ever saw one person vaping, which is someone at my office. I think he has now stopped vaping, so I haven't see another vaper in weeks. Planning a trip to my local B&M not because I need supplies, just need to make sure that other vapers still exist.
There's probably 7.5 - 10 million current vapers in the US today :toast:

Painfully obvious ... Most vapers do not openly vape in pubic
and that is a crying shame

Now that we actually have a few vape stores in town, it's getting more common. I went to Puggerfest last weekend and saw a few people vaping away. I usually don't vape in public (not that I get out much), but Puggerfest was outside, so I didn't hold back. I got a couple of funny looks. The only people who said anything were the other people vaping and we compared equipment. LOL

So far i have got 5 people to start the road on vaping. 2 are 100% off analogs, the other 3 have cut back from 1 1/2-2packs to less than 1/2 pack. Ill keep helping everyone that ask for it. I have even let a few friends barrow one of my set ups for the day and tell them to try it and if they dont like it or doesnt do anything for them they aren't out any money.

Only one seen so far, a young guy in the smoking area of a bar in Melbourne chuffing hard on one of those beginner units with the prefilled throw-away carts. I was all like, "Hey, I tried to buy one of those a few years ago but couldn't find anyone who would sell to Australia!" and he offered me a hit on it. Me: "Hmmm, pretty mild." Unimpressed but it was a start.

Didn't think about it again for a few months, then my brother and his wife were at a market and some a..hole was selling starter kits for $90.00 and after they came home there was some discussion about it. My brother gave up smoking years ago but his wife still smoked and she was considering buying one. I checked the 'net and told her you could get them way cheaper by mail.

We both started on the same day several weeks ago, although there was a period of mixed vaping and smoking while we waited for refills with nicotine to arrive. She's still on the starter kit smoking 6mg Mango flavour, while I've already given up on that (and the 510-T I bought next) and have an 1100mAh eGo and a Lambo Mod on order. So far I've spent maybe $600 on various stuff - four different e-cigs, juice, carts, nic juice, you name it!

Hope to see some more vapers "in the wild" as I progress. Anything that can get me to give up analogs has to be a good thing.

I actually came across a random person vaping today!

At work, I was headed to see my team of engineers. I passed by a window and saw a guy vaping. So I ran out and said hi! Turns out it's one of my engineers!! He had an eGo type battery with some tank on it. We chatted a bit about devices and juices. I'm going to donate one of my retired eGo PTs to his cause. He had mentioned he wanted one with the USB plug, and I just stopped using eGos of any kind.

He buys juice at a mall kiosk, so I'm going to have to introduce him to some DIY stuff of mine. Baby steps though!

I work for the new Amazon.com warehouse in Chester VA and have only seen one other Vaper there. Most people look at my random mod of the day, ask questions and then tell me they tried(insert cig-a-like here) and it didn't work for them. Been trying to get more of the smokers hooked on the healthier alternative.

So the general tone of this thread seems to be that some people occasionally vape in public, but most don't or they "stealth vape".

It's good to see that when vapers come across another vaper (or someone using an e-cig) in public, we tend to interact with them. It's that public acknowledgement and interaction that makes people comfortable with vaping, gets "newbies" interested in "advanced vaping" and helps spread the word. We should ALWAYS address other vapers when we see them in public--there is strength in numbers, and we need to acknowledge our "brothers and sisters in arms" when we see them!

Now back to the "public vaping" or as I like to call it (borrowing the term "Open Carry" from the gun-rights world) "Open Vaping".

I think that one of the only ways we are going to educate the public as to the benefits of vaping is do do it publicly, proudly and naturally--with no bragging, showing off or self-conscious stealthyness. Trying to cop a stealthy vape while in public gives people the impression that what we are doing is somehow wrong or meant to be done behind closed doors. An it also reinforces in our own minds (subconsciously) that Vaping is not "socially acceptable" or "politically correct".

It is only through Open Vaping--proudly and unselfconsciously--that we can hope to "normalize" vaping in the eyes of the public. When people see a single vaper or someone with an e-cig, they consider it a novelty--some random techno-geek with the newest trendy gadget. But when they see vapers every day, just going about their business without any fuss, pretension or bravado, then the Public will start to see Vaping as something normal and acceptable.

Just like "Open Carry", Open Vaping serves our cause on many levels:

First, it normalizes our activity in the eyes of the Public by desensitizing them to the novelty of the activity and the equipment.

Second, it gives us--as Vaping Activists--the opportunity to educate the public as to the REALITY of vaping. It gives us the opportunity to engage the non-smoking (and non-vaping) public and let them know what Vaping is and what Vaping isn't, and to dispel the propaganda, lies and demonization that the "anti's" are regularly spewing.

And thirdly, it gives us the opportunity to engage smokers, and expose them to the joys and benefits of vaping. Hopefully we can make some converts, and increase our numbers, which will only work to our benefit, politically and socially.

So, all you Vaping Activists--stop "hiding your lamp under a bushel" and get out there and do some "Open Vaping"!

I "Open Carry" all the time. At first when i went thru security at work, they would look at me like "what the eff is that?" Now, I just toss it down the ramp, pass thru and pick it up and carry on. When I'm on break, I "open VAPE" and never really think twice about it. Some people ask me about it but others look and wonder what this thing is. If I catch them dyeing me, ill tell them. Lol.

This is a great idea, and I am an advocate currently practicing "Open Vaping".
I'm only rarely approached by people asking what I'm doing, and tell them that I'm using my nicotine vaporisor. The questions stop there.
Some of the people I meet at work seem to be of the opinion that will be eventually outlawed because it seems like skirting the law.
The majority of people don't care and have gone so far as to compliment the scent. Those of (east) Indian descent say that it's like hookah and support it.
Management doesn't want to make a decision and has unofficially nixed it as 'unprofessional.'

Practical result? I vape in the break room, bathroom, supply room, and elevator -- and even openly after management has left for the day. Business as usual.

nicotine vaporisor

When I've been questioned in public, (which is rare), I just say "It's a personal vaporizer" and all is well ;)

I find your idea quite interesting! THUMBS UP!!

So is everyone closet vapers? Not me - I like showing people and they are usually very inquisitive. I intend to make up some business cards (not for business purposes) but with this website and some companies I buy from just so people don't have to try to remember what I tell them. Small intro to vaping to get them reading!
