The Atlantic: How the FDA is keeping new cigarettes off the market
In essentially ignoring thousands of applications to create new cigarette brands, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is interfering with market competition, not promoting public health.

I strongly suggest this article to those interested in the ramifications of the FDA's potentially forthcoming "deeming" regulation to apply Chapter IX of the FSPTCA to e-cigarettes.

Basically, the FDA has an unstated policy of not allowing any new tobacco products into the market, which the agency implements by claiming that none of the several thousands "substantial equivalence" applications have provided "sufficient" information.

So Calif
I feel sorry for Hestia, and it looks as if the FDA is being paid to stifle competition. In addition to not commenting on the actual article's contents, the vitriol of the commenters is ceaseless against Hestia and tobacco. Not one word about the stonewalling of a Federal agency, the employees of which are being paid from our tax dollars.

I think this is what we are going to face very soon.

Thank you for bringing this to the forum Mr. Godshall.

Sounds like the FDA has been doing what conservatives have always said gov't should do: learn from "the private sector." The banks were absolute masters of deciding NOTHING was ever sufficient for refinancing....on those rare occasions that people kept enough delivery receipts so that the banks could not claim they never got parts of the applications.

How come, when we get two groups together hoping to get the best of both worlds we seem to end up with the worst of both worlds instead?

Oh, please. No president thinks for him self. They do what they are told. If one has been paying attention they would have noticed each pres picks up where the last one left off. More debt, less freedoms. Its OUR fault cause we have been sleeping like the Romans. Bread & circus. We get the leadership we deserve. bush/obama are different sides of the same coin.

SCREAMS ...
the FDA will be coming down EXTREMELY hard on the e-cigarette industry.

Obviously, they are still seriously "Ticked-Off"
about losing their case in court to ban e-cigarettes.

I'd highly suggest getting rid of the medal and plastic casings and build a tobacco leaf structure, then call them expensive cigars. Congress will protect what they have an interest in.

Am I the only one who has noticed an obvious increase
in the number of CDC quit smoking ads on TV ??

It appears to me ... from what I've read here on the forum
as well as increased anti-smoking ads in the media ...
There's an obvious well "coordinated" attack on all tobacco products
(including e-cigs) .... prior to the FDA announcing the regulations.

I don't think all the attacks on smoking and e-cigarettes
are on the increase ... just by chance alone.

EDIT: It's like a "Feeding Frenzy" which began shortly after
the FDA announcing they will be regulating tobacco and e-cigs
and is accelerating !!

Send Obama and Congress complimentry e-cig(ar)s. I'm sure many got cigar as gifts.
Ask them to try it or pass it on to a smoker friend and see if they don't feel better in as little as a week/month. Then make up their minds.

The fact the FDA is stating a flash drive looks like a e-cig on their webpage is something I'd expect from The Onion.

Unfortunately I don't see much public support because so many non-smokers just turn off when it's anything cigarette related. I suspect they think e-cigs are another division of BT, "another corporate-sponsored phoney "grass roots" organization". That's going to be a hard stereo-type to dispell. Before I knew better, I thought people vaping were boldly smoking an illegal substance.

One thing I learned during the health care debates was the AMA only represents apx 2,500 specialists anymore. They mean nothing. The organization that represents doctors is American Family Physicians (apx 1/4 million strong) and they have taken some surprisingly independent positions before - against insurance, pharma's, advertising, etc.

What gets me is that every doctor I've seen for almost 6-7 years now has offerred me scripts for Chantix. The quit-smoking aid that will give me a heart attack or cause black-outs, and depression instead of lung cancer. Gee thx. Doctors don't have time to do research. They are dependent on getting current medical opinoin on other sources.

It might be too late, but every single state chapter of vapers should be organized and versed in watching local legislation and how to visit their representatives. That kind of walk-in traffic still has an effect. It's a heck of a lot better than petitions, protests or form letters. Congress and states can get involved.

That's what CASAA does (among other things) and that's why every vaper needs to join and get involved.
I have met with my Congressman (Darrell Issa) and I know he will support us.

But even if they don't feel they can get involved, they AT LEAST need to join.
Every vaper that joins CASAA increases their numbers, and therefore their potential influence.
