>>>> Puck, of all the mods I have....the Puck is still my go-to. Here's the latest with my version of the top feed.

Very nice with the top feed Parallex2!!

Do you have a hole in the back to press the bottle to add juice? Are you dripping it or replenishing the cart filler? I want to do a bottom feed like the Reo series but may do a top feed til I figure it out....

There's no need for a hole because there's no pumping...that's the best part. By venting the bottle it's no longer a closed air system and the juice stays up the tube. When you draw on the cart, juice is pulled into the cart filler. If I lay it down for a few hours and need to "charge" the cart, I draw a few times without pressing the button....and then vape till the bottle is empty. Then, I open the box, refill, and back to vaping. Nothing wrong with a bottom feed; I just don't like to pump.

Ahhhh... very nice indeed! The only thing I don't like about top feeding is the way the hose looks and I want a unit that's a little rugged and the hose makes it look frail.. like it will snag or come off if put in a pocket.... but it may be a small price to pay as it seems to work so well. I like the concept and design and will have to give it a try.... maybe I'll put the vent hole in the cap so I can just screw on a new bottle instead of refilling so it's easier to change flavors.... There's the SUCKaTON bottom self feeder (with no hose!) but this top auto feed is so much simpler.... I like it! I just have to hide and secure the hose... I'm gonna try a hose salvaged from a grill lighter but it's prolly too thin.....

I've done a bottom feed but don't like it that well. It works but it seems that the taste is not as good as when a cart with filler is used. That tells me that some of the "taste" we get comes from the juice in the cart filler itself. Just a theory. When I bottom feed without any filler, I loose some of the taste. Plenty of vapor, just not as much taste.

I've been playing around with a top feed with filler replenish method myself. I seem to get more taste that way.

Good point, but I plan to change it to 2 Lithium 3.7v batts in parallel when I receive them, I just had some NiMH AAA's on hand.

The only problem with that is you are still going to run 3.7 volts. 4 nimhs get you the 4.8 volts and massive amounts of vapor. A lot more than you are going to get with parallel 3.7 lithiums. And they last a long time also.

Just trying to sway another over to the dark (NiMh) side :)

MORE TASTE!!
LESS FILLER!!
MORE TASTE!!
LESS FILLER!!

Heh,,, Sorry, I just had to do that...

Wow, that was easy!! Thanks for the inspiration... I have to experiment more...

I took the thin hose out of a grill lighter and inserted one end into the cart. I removed the filler and melted through the plastic with a hot paper clip and replaced the filler. I wrapped a little teflon tape around the hose to make it air tight. The other end goes into the bottle through a hole in the top of the cap. This hole is a little bigger, with a hot piece of coat hanger, so it can vent. Just a trial to see if it works... and it does!

This supplies enough juice to keep the cart filler wet. I'm gonna find a smaller bottles to fit inside and pretty it up but it only took a few minutes to get the juice flowing!

I'm cutting my teeth playing around with the Puck... I have parts on order for my next mod... a 5v regulator chip courtesy of TI, DVM display from China, lipo batteries... not sure what type of atty(s) to use yet..... now if I can just find that micro pump.....

I went to RS today and got another box and rewired my puck. You were right, Puck. It hits like a train at 4.8v. I'm curious to see how long I can go before a recharge on these NiMH AAA's. While I was there I picked up parts to make a AA puck for my 510 atty. I'll let you know how it turned out after the batteries are charged up :D Thanks again, Puck.

Woah! My throat just got caught in a full on assault. This thing hits like a ton of bricks! Ingenious and so easy to build, thanks a million more times, Puck. I'm looking to be on the go for a few days with 2100 mah NiMH batteries. Absolutely awesome mod with very easy to understand and follow directions. :vapor:

I tried the suction juice feed and it worked well with thin liquid but I have a home brew that's mostly glycerin and pretty thick. I also didn't like the idea of the open vent hole. Although I bounced it around w/o spillage I want a closed system that was pretty much leak-proof.

I tried the spray bottle mod with this little glass spray bottle It's about the same width as the Puck SD and a little taller. The listing says 3ml but this is more like 10ml. I had to seal the inside with teflon tape so it would handle the high pressure into the little hose and drilled the outlet so the hose would fit. (will post pics & details if anyone wants them). The hose comes from the bottle cap to the cart to keep the filler wet. I know it's how I like it when I can hear the atty sizzle a little....

I'd like an auto feed system but pumping the spray bottle every few puffs isn't too bad. I don't want something that can spill or leak rolling around the car or pocket.

So many mods... so little time... lol... I have 2 flashlights and 2 gas grill lighters just crying to be turned into mods....

There ya go. The fitting is a modded pressure fitting I get at a local hobby store for less than 2 bucks each...pretty cheap and it's the key to the system. By burnishing the hole smaller or opening it up, you change how fast the juice is drawn into the cart. Since I want to draw to be consistent regardless of which juice I'm using, change the opening of the fitting. I keep 3 for each mod; one each for thin, medium, or thick juice. When I fill the bottle I screw in the appropriate fitting for that juice.

You can change how you draw to keep from flooding or starving the cart; I just wanted the hardware to do the work.

It's pretty small and doesn't show well in the pic, but there's a 1mm brass tube in the top of the bottle. I burnish the opening to about .2mm. It allows air into the bottle

nice mod i may have to try making one

rege... you should try it! Puck has made it very easy and it's fun to experiment from there. I've built a couple Puck SD's and worked on my latest version until the wee hours of the morning..... Ask for help if you need any!

I basically built a 4x AAA box inside of a 4xAA box so I'd have room for the pump spray bottle. The switch is oversized and was the only one I had on hand but it works out great! I rest my thumb on the pump button and activate the atty... every one in a while I press the pump to keep the filler nice and wet. It worked great all day and is going strong! I get about .8 volts dropped between idle and vaping....

Here's the stripped out AA box with the components soldered in place.

capecodjim-albums-pics-picture21153-ult-2.jpg

Here's the finished version! The white button is the top of the spray bottle. The red button activates the atty. The hose is from a gas grill lighter. The pump and fittings are beefed up with teflon tape so no leaks. The DVM comes on when the main power switch is turned on to show idle voltage and stays on while vaping to show voltage under load. I put a small piece of bubble wrap over the batteries until I can cut some foam.

Here's the inside. It's a Puck at heart... A Puck within a Puck....

Very nice, capecodjim!
However, some of us cannot carry devices that look like explosive detonators :D

Ya ladydeth, it does kinda have that look to it.... and it looks like it's counting down as the voltage drops.. lol "Everybody stand back or I'll vaporize!!"

Hey parallex2 - I can't find them now but somewhere in the forum there are pictures of brass oxidizing in e-juice and turning it green....

Thanks warbdan! I pick up the DVM for a variable voltage mod and realized I had plenty of room to stick it in this mod while I plan that one. It doesn't seem to impact battery life much as I also got all day out of these AAA's as usual. 3 days from AA's! That's pretty wild!

My next goal is a USB charging circuit so I don't have to remove the batteries to charge them.
