When my second Line V2 started shorting in the pos post hole I decided that if these are going to be long term PVs I had better learn to repair them myself and not count on shipping them back each time. So today I put an extender on the threads and clamped it to a vice. Using a small slotted spreader between the vice and the line I tried to remove the connector and proceeded in breaking off the threads. It was on there much harder than on Dan's. I have dremeled out the brass and there was a hard grey like subtance in there like plumber's epoxy. On both my lines the sleeve around the silver wire has gotten soft and mushy and shrunk down into the post hole. Have the 18 gauge silver wire and waiting for my order of ptfe tubing to finish the repair. Plan to make the pos post the longer one with the ptfe tubing extending a little further. No big deal in rebuilding these and the great SS workmanship on these should be good fore a lifetime. Brass connectors and the sleeves can wearout. Will post pics after I get the ptfe.

Hey BJ, that gray stuff, does it crumble when picked at? Epoxy putty cures rock hard but is quite machinable and can be removed if needed.
It crumbled under my diamond bit on the demel.
It was hard not rubbery like silicone.
What is strange to me was the sleeves getting soft and shrinking.

poland, and the brassy lands of google
Curious indeed. Sounds like epoxy putty. You already did it, but use something like a dental pick that is harder than putty but softer than SS, diamonds are definitely harder :)

The sleeves are heatshrink tubing, so maybe they weren't pre-shrunk enough? They would soften with use too, heat is heat.

18 gauge silver wire 18 gauge ptfe. Wire fits the tubing, tubing fits the line, time to assemble.

A little silicone and a vice to press the connecter in and Line 270 will be ready to fly.
The only difference is that I will leave the pos post as the longer and that way reduce the heat to the tubing in the pos hole and this way it may last longer. By the way I did not remove the top section to do this repair. Gave up after bending two quarters.lol Dan thanks for the paper clip trick to get the tubing thru the holes.

Well it finally happened to my V2 yesterday :( 510 connection is cracked right at the top of the threads. Any recommendations from experience on getting it out of the base? I was thinking of replacing with a 510 connection from a CE2.

I use a 8.5mm drill bit and the leftovers just slides out.
