Hysteria is a disconnection from reality predicated on misperception. In our society all too often the result of being misled as to the truth. No one has a right to it; but, perhaps a right to be protected from it.

However, I feel for all my fellow Floridians right now. And I'd certainly agree Bea that the weakest, most vulnerable and poor are the most hurt by natural disaster. Guess my argument is against those who would make it worse by misleading us. In my view, there are plenty of those kinds of turds…pardon me, opportunists, as we've suffered in vaping. Altogether too many who love misery and would love us all to be miserable with for them. Regrettably I see 'em all too clearly to be comfortable in a storm. I'd rather see folks confidently survive and have tried to do my part here past few.

Good luck Bea and all a ya's. :)

I certainly agree with you there. I blame newscasters for a lot of that. They sensationalize everything.

This is a really cool site:

Heehee!

They already warned us in my area that electricity may be out for many days, depending on Irma's severity. DH and I were just talking about a shower and doing a last minute load of laundry. We have a generator but it will only operate the microwave, fridge and living room lights and TV.

Y'all calm down, & stop the negativity. Stop focusing on fear, & stop giving it voice. That just creates more fear & spreads it to others. Focus on keeping your wits & thoughts in order. It's a storm. Lots of wind (maybe), lots of water (probably). If you have prepared correctly, you'll have, at a minimum, flashlights, food, & water. There is nothing else to do but wait till it's over. Now is the time for logic & practicality to rule. Not fear & hysteria.
I'm sorry, but there is a lot of fear spreading going on here & that is not good, nor will it help anyone. I live 15 miles miles from the Gulf. Just south of Houstonn between Houston & the Gulf. I've been through every hurricane in this area since March of 1978 without loss. I only evacuated during Ike because I had all of my employers customer credit records in my Suburban. So that the company could continue business when the storm was over. There was a lot of damage. But the majority of deaths & injuries were not a direct result of the storm. They were because people paniced & did not use their heads. Being afraid is one thing. Letting it take over will get you killed.
So stop the fear talk h encourage each other. Reach out to friends & neighbors to see if they need anything stay in touch. Stay here. Be calm.

Very sage advice Kenna.

I think the issue is fear of the unknown…it certainly is for me. And it's human nature to worry about the unknown. None of us know what damage we will be facing when it's over. Not that we would feel better about the damages.

And what makes it worse is it will be at its worse during the night and the dark makes everything seem worse.

Thanks for your wise words. :)

At least 300 of these traveling your direction from PA alone.

I'm passing them in convoys of 20 to 50 at a click.

With a few stragglers.

Tree trimming truck.

Electricians can use the boom to fix blown transformers, too.

Helps keep roads clear and get the power back on faster.

while I do have battery operated radios it is nice to know we are still in touch with the world even without electricity should we loose it.

I love nature,, after Ike took everything and while we were dragging everything out,, I ran across a seahorse looking critter in our house. (sadly dead),,,,,,,,he was tiny,, I kept thinking 'I bet he had big plans of crossing the Gulf'

We were the first people back to our neighborhood,, it was very quiet, like creepy quiet.. as we approached the front door a squirrel came down the tree and looked at us,, then he made a noise,, it was like he was announcing 'the humans are back!' and then suddenly you could hear frogs and other critters.

So we had to live in a storage room off the garage,,,,,but I still had to travel to the partial kitchen every morning to make coffee and have a cig,, this fat raccoon started showing up.. I would feed him cat food and talk to him.........his name was Rocky. This drove my husband crazy,, he would always say 'you dont know if he has rabies',,,,,,,,I would always say,, if he had rabies he would have shown signs by now,, and all he needs is a bathrobe at this point..............hubby not humored......I miss Rocky.

my point is,, find some positive moments,, because you will lean on some of those moments sometimes.

Starting to get a bit dark here, little breezy but, not so bad. I suspect tonight and tomorrow are going to be quite nautical though.

Matt, liked the way you put that…26mph here in Hlwd and has dropped a bit since earlier this p.m. with moderate rain at moment. A few episodes resembling our typical thunder gushers. But I can see this being a problem if it persists until tomorrow for sure. Preceding the rain we saw gusts over 35mph. About it for now.

Good luck all. :)
