And in the Project X maintenance category...

Today I noticed just a tad bit of juice on my fingers when I was turning the JFC on the upper tank section. I took it apart and tried swapping the lowest o-ring (tank seal). After putting it together I still had a small amount of juice when turning the JFC so I swapped the middle o-ring and that fixed it.

My best guess is that with a side fill atty the juice works its way out from the juice fill port and if that middle o-ring is no good you may experience what I did. That and pulling the top cap off and on for refills probably takes its toll. Perhaps poor quality clone o-rings too. I lube atty o-rings with 100% VG or food grade vaseline as Qorax does and either works well. eliquid works fine too.

If this ever happens with your X try replacing the middle one or just replace both like I did.

In the photo (from FT) the top o-ring looks to be rather loose to me on the right side.

I don't know about any of you... but I don't think the quality of o-rings on clones are very good. Next I am going to buy some better quality o-rings for the X from The O-Ring Store. I will measure and get a complete set(s) and replace them all. I've bought from them before (for Kayfun's) and their o-rings are excellent quality. They let you buy in small quantities unlike other o-ring suppliers where you have to buy 50-100 minimum.

Let us know the measurements when you have them. I'm ready to order another X, but I also need another RDA for my Luna - big decisions - and the correct answer is to order both :D

I also did maintenance on the X today - just a decent bath of the tank, chimney, top cap etc, and the base got a bubble bath too. I now have a very clean, recoiled, rewicked, filled to the brim, happy Project x

I received a spool of twisted fused clapton ss316L 32gx3/40g from AVS yesterday. I popped in a 6 wrap 2.5ID coil coming in at 0.64Ω. Nice... very nice w/TC running at 24w and 420f.
Very flavorful and sooooo RDA like IMO with the X's reduced chamber.

Still loving my X ... same as I did from the very first vape. ;) Lovin' it more actually.
My second should be here soon... soon meaning FT time [slooooow].

I know it's comparing apples to oranges - but what is the main difference in vaping a single wire coil in the X and your fused clapton masterpiece?

I'm throwing some Coilology 316L Stainless Steel MTL Fused Clapton wire into my next FT order. It's 2*30ga/40g.

But I also need to order more cotton and wire locally and was thinking of ordering some 32ga ss326l and making twisted coils and trying them out.

32g is really thin, almost hair like you will need to torch it with a flame to take out the springiness. There’s a technical term for it but right now I’ve forgotten what’s it’s called :D
Even then it might be too fine to work well. 32g is usually used as a wrapping wire. Or as a dual/triple core.

So it would be a pita to make twisted coils out of I take it? ;) I could get 30ga instead for twisteds. But I don't really want anything that is a pita
28ga I can handle just fine - most days :sneaky:

If you wouldn’t mind posting the o rings sizes it would be most appreciated.

Ladies, I need to measure the spares and I may wait until I get the new ones from the o-ring store just to make certain of proper fit if that's ok??? I want to make sure I get them right. Let me know... :D

Ange... and Luna the squonker not the cat... plus RDA's. I received an Ulton Salix and YFTK The Flave Styled RDA's today (and 3 mech squonkers lol). I seem to recall you having those RDA's bookmarked. Right? Or have I lost the RDA script? They're not setup yet... I'm slackin', I know. But they are soaking in Dawn right now. I am going to set them up in the morning.

My X got a bath in Dawn dishwashing soap and there were some bubbles haha. Also with one of the cats on the counter watching intensely and swatting the top cap and tank sections on the floor. She was promptly removed from the counter only to have her jump on/off the table for amusement... that cat.

For me the main difference is flavor. That was the first thing I noticed in a big way. I put the same coil as the X in one of my Primes and had another Prime with 28g kanthal at 0.8Ω to test between. Same juice in both. I tested both in wattage mode and the clapton Prime delivers better taste - flavor.

Like Heartsdelight said 32g would be way too thin. And you absolutely don't want to torch this stuff. More on that later.

The twisted fused clapton ss316L 32gx3/40g I bought from Advanced Vape Supply is a tad bit thicker than 28g kanthal. Very easy to work with too.

Also when you pulse them you don't want to go pulse crazy. No torching, you will ruin the wire. Only very lightly pulsing between 15-20w so the coil just dims orange. I got that straight from Dan (I hope I got his name right) at AVS. He has a series of videos for getting long life out of his wire and pulsing etc. If done correctly your coil should look multicolored like some of the coil porn photo's people post here. He gets months out of his coils and tells all they should be getting the same if maintained as in his videos.

He told me that wire is perfect for MTL atty's. Next I will be getting some thicker clapton wire. I received my LV kanthal clapton wire today, the same as @Nailz linked, but haven't spun up a coil yet.

Awesome summary - thank you - I'm definitely going to have to try mtl claptons out now ;)

Thanks Ange. ;) I'm thinking you will like them.
Maybe look at some 26ss (core) / 28ss (wrap) clapton. I have a spool of that which came today from Lightning Vapes along with the 36k/28k that @Nailz linked.

I just pulled out my X o-rings from the baggie along with the ones I used earlier. Hahaha, well mine are all bent and not in perfect o-ring shape. They came squished in the package probably like yours. I have them out and laying flat so hopefully they will regain their original shape. If they do I can get proper measurements.

In the meantime I thought I would search for the sizes. An Italian site that sells the authentic also lists the o-ring sizes. Thank you Italians!!!

Here is what they list: Google Translate

    Screen shot 2019-07-19 at 9.58.12 PM.png

I received a total of 11 o-rings in the spares that came with the X. Is that what you all received?

If any of yours are NOT squished and out of shape here is how to measure them.
    Metric O-Ring Information.png
Looking at the Project X there are a total of 10 o-rings counting the drip tip.
    9684757-6.jpg

The spares package that FT sells separately has 8 o-rings. That makes more sense to me (minus the DT o-rings). And based on the Italian site measurements those are in line with what I see.
Thinking I should go with the official sizes from the Italian site when I order them.
    9680750-2.jpg

Any thoughts folks? What do all of you who have the X think? Please... TIA

Edit to add: for measuring you only need the cross section + inside diameter as the Italian site lists the type for us

Here is a photo of a 6 wrap 3mm ID 0.54Ω 26ss /36ss clapton I installed in the Flave RDA this morning. The 26ss /36ss clapton wire is just a tad thicker (with the 36g wrap) than 26g kanthal and really easy to work with. The photo is after most of today squonking on it. IMO clapton's bring the flavor in spades.
    IMG_0923cr.jpg
I'm totally sold on clapton wire.

Next refill on my Project X I'll have to pop up a photo of the smaller gauge MTL clapton. I was going to post a photo of it yesterday but it turned out blurry.
