If that is the medical definition of addiction, since nicotine use, absent smoking, has not been shown to result in disablility or premature death or significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships (nor does it cause most people "severe" trauma to quit,) I'm not sure nicotine use is really a true addiction then.

I belive most people could avoid nicotine use - they simply choose not to. Nicotine "addiction" cannot even begin to be compared with other addictions regarding the negative impact on one's life. It seems cliche to say, but you don't see nicotine "addicts" knocking over drug stores or prostituting themselves for a fix!

Before the age of narcotics, addiction had a different definition. It simply meant something that a person couldn't live without.

Postive addiction has been recognized by psychologists as a good thing and something that can be used to avoid bad addictions. Another example would be people who have a daily workout routine. They widely report that missing their workout has negative effects on their mood and behavior - classic withdrawl symptoms. It literally helps them function - even increasing their cognative abilities. These aren't obsessive workout addicts that over exercise because they have poor body image - just average, healthy 20 minute workouts. Their workouts bring them only positive results, yet since cessation brings extreme discomfort, they truly are addicted in every sense. So how is that undesirable? I would LOVE to be addicted to a 20 minute daily workout! LOL!

So, if there can be positive and negative addictions, there can be varying degrees in between, as well. (I can't control my heart beating either, but that doesn't mean I consider it undesirable! lol ;))

to be fair- the only reason that people are prostituting them selves and stealing for their next fix of illegal drugs is because the black market drives the prices up and make it unaffordable and impossible to sustain their habits on a normal income. smoking has been prove in many studies to be just as addictive as ....... it being legal is a major reason that you don't see people with nicotine addictions having such severe consequences.

Just want to pipe in and say 7-10ml's a day is absolutely insane. I get quips from my roommates, family, and friends that I'm vaping "too much". This thing is basically attached to my mouth at all times and STILL I only smoke a little over 1ml a day. That's dripping too. I fill up a 3ml travel bottle every 2-3 days, go through Hypnotic Mist slightly quicker but it's a pretty small difference. 24MG's on all.

I simply cannot conceive how someone would smoke 7-10 a day unless you're only using 6v mods and that really consumes that much juice.

Addiction is subjective, what is a drug is socially constructed. A lot of people who say they're "drug free" still imbibe alcohol, coffee, and smoke cigarettes. Are we addicted to nicotine? Most certainly. Anymore than caffeine or alcohol? Maybe, but is that addiction actually harmful in the form of the e-cigarette? To oneself or society? That's fully up to you.

When you're at 7-10ml a day maybe you are addicted.

why is h.e.r.o.i.n not allowed to be said on this site? is it a bad word?

The censoring on this site is automatic. I got a kick out of it once. I was trying to explain where I lived to a guy and the description involved the name of a neighboring county. The county's name is Hills- dale but when I type it without the hyphen it comes out Hil...ale because of the three letters in the middle of the word.:lol::lol::lol:
I think that's Hill-arious!

7-10ml a day? Well so much for you saving money. I would try upping the nic level though.

I have posted a few times concerning ml/day. 10ml is not out of the question and I am with OP on this. First throw a LR atty and LR cartos on your rigs and watch juice consumption rise anywhere between 30 to 40 %. Now:

25 drops/ml
3 drops per load on LR atty
5 Puffs per charge
10ml = 250 drops = 83 loads = about 415 puffs!
if your normal day is like mine then 415 divided by 18 hours (yes I vape at work all day everyday) = 23 hits per hour.
At 10mg/ml that is 100mg day and is less than I was getting from smoking and chewing nicorette at the same time. Also note that you are not getting the full 10mls since there is some waste. Since I DIY I am also paying significantly less for my 10ml/day habit than those using premade juice who are vaping 2 to 5ml. My juice cost is less than $1/day. Happy vaping all.

Wow. I use cartos on my 5V GLV and my Buzz, usually set between 4.5 and 4.8 volts. Cartos must be more efficient than dripping. I vape all day as well (self employed) and my juice mileage is about 5 ml a day.

I gotta say though, this "addiction" thing is just ridiculous. I really think "addiction" is a word that's over used in our society.

Regardless of ml vaped and ml not vaped (i honestly vape around 1-3ml a day...and 3 is on a day where i'm trying a new flavor and LOVE it LOL). The government has NO SAY (since i got out of the army a few years ago) what i get to put into MY body. They can try and ban e-cigs...i'm already working on stocking up on my parts (attys and batteries), and if they ban the juice come hell or high water i WILL DIY...but for now...i'm just enjoying breathing/sleeping/in general FEELING better so the government can kiss my white behind...

VAPE ON!

You're right, the consequences of the black market is a big factor.

But also consider that cigarettes don't impair your judgment like some of those drugs do. For some people, they actually improve mental function. Even the withdrawal doesn't have the extreme side effects that withdrawal from her-oin does. I mean, with withdrawal from her-oin, you're talking potential psychosis, lose of control of bodily functions, and death.

Cig withdrawal is quite unpleasant, and for some people fairly extreme - it was for me. I'm the worst withdrawal I've ever seen from cigs. But certainly not to the extreme of her-oin.

There really is a big difference between them. Cigs do help a lot of people function - better than they did before they smoked, even - it's just that they kill you at the same time.

I think a big reason why quitting smoking is so hard is because not only is it easy and legal to get more, but because some people genuinely do function better while smoking.

An addict is an addict is an addict. Vaping is a non harmful addiction.

Exactamundo! Let's not forget though that all addictions do not have equal consequences. An addiction to nicotine does not mean that you are less productive or that you pose a danger to anyone else. Wanting to ban something simply because one does not approve of people being addicted reeks of puritanism and the introduction of a nanny state. I'd like to ban people who don't know how to mind their own damned business, but they have the right to be nosy goody goodies if they want to. I can say with relative certainy that knowing how to mind your own business can be as beneficial to your health as quitting smoking!
