I'm on Week 2 of my usb passthrough from PureSmoker and haven't had one ounce of drop off production yet. If you are constantly vaping on it.. beware.. the atomizer can overheat and boom no more vapor. It will fry it if you are not careful. I usually check mine after about a cigs worth of hits (10-15 draws)to make sure the atomizer is not getting too hot. As long as you keep an eye out on the atomizer you shouldn't have any problems making it last imo.

When home, I alternate between the passthrough and my stand alone pen. I am a heavy vaper and yes, it can heat up. That seems to solve the problem for me.

I've been using my setup since Tuesday night (the usb passthrough & battery pack), and it's been an absolute joy! No more worrying, no more stressing and no more charging batteries in every free outlet I can find LOL! The vaping is so much better :)

I've also noticed the atomizer getting hotter than before, so I am being careful about that.

Thanks again, peachette!

If the UPB10 battery pack has not been used (charging or discharging) for a
period of more than 15 minutes, it automatically enters sleep mode to
conserve charge. To turn the battery pack on, press the Status button for
1 second and release it. The status indicators light up, indicating that the
battery pack is awake.

For those who are already using the APC...do you have to keep pressing the button to wake the device up if you don't vape with it every 15 minutes at least?

Yes. But I haven't found that to be any significant inconvenience. It's a little soft-touch button, you just press it and you can vape instantly. No biggy. No smally, even. :)

Thanks equazcion. BTW can you tell me if the included AC/USB adapter has the exact same power output as the device itself (ie. 5v/1000ma)?

If so, what I might do is run a USB A male/female cable directly to that AC adapter and vape from the wall, when I'm at my computer. And then use the device itself strictly for mobility (it'll put less wear on it too that way).

well mine went to sleep in the less than one minute between puffs once, kinda wierd. However, holy jebus this thing makes my 801 atomizer a friggen smoke machine.

You're welcome. Yeah you could do that, but also, the device itself can be used directly from the wall too, so you don't need two separate devices for home and mobile. And while it's plugged into the wall it never goes into sleep mode.

Mine has done that a couple of times too. Must be a bug. But the vast majority of the time it works like it should, sleeping after 15 minutes. And yeah it's great, it produces as much vapor as when I'm plugged into my computer's USB.

Just realized I didn't answer that part. Yes the included charger does produce 5v/1000mA, according to its label.

But it's really more convenient to use the battery pack with it (have the battery pack plugged into the wall, and the USB passthrough plugged into the battery pack). You can get a lot further away from the wall that way, since you've got the length of the charger wire + the USB passthrough wire.

Ok excellent, that pretty much answers everything I was curious about. Lots of flexibility here.

Actually it's pretty easy to buy a long USB cable which will connect the pass-through to the ac adapter - getting even more length than the included cable with the device.

But I'll try using it as is since I won't have to deal with the auto-shut-off when it's plugged in.

I bet these are going to be selling furiously once more vapers come on board. APC will be scratching their heads wondering what the heck is going on with the sudden jump in sales :D

Here's a bargain for UK members:

USB BATTERY PACK iPOD iPHONE Touch UNIVERSAL CHARGER GB on eBay, also Other Apple iPod Accessories, Apple iPod Accessories, MP3 Player Accessories, Consumer Electronics (end time 07-Jan-09 21:30:00 GMT)

I ordered mine a couple of days ago, it arrived this AM & is now charging from PC USB socket.

Output is 5.3 volts @ 1250 milliamps.

The good news is that it's 'Buy it now' at £9.99 plus postage.

The even better news is that the vendor accepted my Offer of £7.99 - if you're cheeky enough you may even get it cheaper!

Cheers :thumb:
Barry

PS - takes 9 hours to charge from the USB socket so I'll let you know later how it works........

I'm very interested in this but is it true that the passthrough only last the same length of time as a battery? And at over twice the price of a battery it just seems like more expense... Plus in the UK the only site I can find that sells the passthrough is e-cigs and they're out of stock, so I'm unsure if I would be able to get regular replacements of passthroughs as well! Are there any other UK sites selling them?

I'm not sure how long the passthrough or the APC battery actually lasts (if you mean before they die permanently...?), but I'm pretty sure they last much, much longer than regular e-cig batteries. I don't think you'll need to replace either one of them "regularly".

I'm not sure where the rumor came from that they only last as long as a battery but I've had mine since I first started e-smoking (mid Nov), use it everyday, and have had no problems. At some point, the wire may show wear (mine hasn't yet) and yes, there's always a chance anything can die....but with the passthrough, you really can vape for hours on end without worrying about recharging a battery. That's a real plus.

I don't know about the UK but they also sell them on www.bestecig.com. Last I knew, they sold them with or without the atomizer and cartridge included. Might at least be worth a look at.

Not sure about the UK either, but I know in the US Puresmoker sells the pass-throughs for $20 while the normal batteries are $15. So yes they're a bit more expensive, but the increased vaping satisfaction will more than make up for it.

The voltage on normal batteries is only 3.6 - that's pretty low and a big reason reason why they don't perform so well in comparison.

I'll be using this backup battery to replace the 3AA battery setup I'm using now

(see here for pictures of this handsome piece of e-vaping kit: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/4227-easiest-cheapest-ugliest-mod-ever.html )

- with that setup I get at least 3 to 4 days e-smoking from a good set of batteries (2100ma/hr jobbies)

This Battech USB battery (4400 ma/hr), fully charged, should last around twice as long.

If you have a 'passthrough' usb lead and you plug it into the Battech device (or similar) it should also last from, I dunno, what? 3 to 5 days I guess, depending on the amount of use it gets.
