I feel like everyone is watching me?

Hello, new to vaping and the forum. I took up vaping about a week ago. I quit smoking about 15 years ago because I was tired of the smell of cigarettes.
Took up chewing tobacco to help me stop cigs. Now, I'm kicking the chew because it's too rough on my gums.
I sound like John Candy in the movie splash. "Cigarettes, pipes, cigars chewing tobacco"
Something you old guys may remember.
Anyways, I give the stink eye to smokers because I don't understand how they can smoke those butthole burrito's when something like vaping is available.
I would have killed to have vaping when I was trying to quit.
Well now I feel like I'm the one getting looks of disapproval when I'm vaping. Could be because I believe people may be thinking I'm smoking cigarettes.
I don't care what people think other than I wish people wouldn't associate vaping with smoking.
Well as noob and the overwhelmed feeling of what to get. I finally just went to my local shop and got what they recommended. A Nord for my stealthy vape and a Voopoo Drag mini platinum for more vape fun.
I dig them both. If your a newbe and overwhelmed, you may try going the route of local shop recommendations. You make friends and get great support.

There’s a popular belief going about it seems that smoking is less dangerous than vaping instigated by some misleading PSA commercials with puppets in them. It’s long, complicated, political, and has to do with JUUL and children as I understand it.

You just need to wear socks with sandals and really colorful hawaii shirts ... people will still look at you ... and they'll be judging you ... but it'll have nothing to do with vaping.

Welcome to the forums, and to the vaping family.

When people are looking at you when you vape in public, your feelings or impressions of what they are thinking is all on you - and not necessarily an accurate representation of what their thoughts truly are.

Some of them may very well be thinking "Oh, a vaper, I wonder if that helped him quit smoking?" Not everyone is judging you negatively when they look at you, they may just have a simple curiosity because while the number of vapers is growing, very few people have ever encountered vaping/vapers in the wild.

Just look friendly and say hi to people who look at you when you vape. Open the door to the conversation if someone desires. That course of action is always best in this environment where we fight against Big Tobacco and the anti-vapers for the hearts and minds of the voting public.

Vaping is very "smart" when getting away from cigs. Sure, there is still a nicotine addiction, but you are removing 100+ cancerous chemicals.

People look at other people. It’s our nature. Don’t assume you know what they’re thinking. You’re almost certainly wrong. I always look mad, I mean scary mad.

I’m not... sun hurts my eyes and makes me squint.

But I’m pretty much ignoring everyone, don’t care if they’re smiling ir vaping or wearing socks with sandals.

I’m focused on the task at hand and all my other grownup worries. Trying to remember my shopping list and if I turned the coffee pot off before I left.

Most adults are doing the same. With serious or maybe angry looks on their faces.

And those few judgemental ones, well, must be nice to be so blessed that someone else’s vaping is the biggest thing they have to be angry about.

Welcome to the forum! They're watching you alright. It's a very small percentage of folks that know anything about vaping beyond what they have seen on the God Box. The talking head said it causes popcorn lung. Now they have no idea what popcorn lung is, but it surely can't be good. They also heard those things will blow your face off. So ya, they're watching to see if you self destruct. It's just another useless vicarious activity that humans seem to do a lot of.

My wife says I can put on, what she calls, in her Lanarkshire Scots, my "F You Jimmy and the horse you rode in on!" look when people annoy me.

Maybe worth trying ( it's fun really to see them turning away! ).

As to those who burst into bouts of affected coughing the moment they see someone vaping or smoking, I usually adress them kindly - " I don't like the sound of the cough you have, it's worrying. You really should see a Doctor, the last person I knew with a cough like that was dead within three months!"

Welcome Mr Guru. I had a friend who thought every woman he saw was looking at him and would go up to them and say "hi, I saw you looking at me, would you like to go out with me?" He got slapped a lot. But he was also cross eyed and I think they were just looking in the shop windows he was standing near.

I'm English but I live in France and the French are traditionally tolerant of most things so they mostly just ignore you....I can see why it might be worse than that in the US with all these bonkers lies being lapped up by everyone...jeez

My advice develop a thicker skin and enter a dialogue wherever possible...good luck
