Well actually cigarette is an incorrect term as well cigarette implies that it is a small cigar but there are little cigars already that actually fit the definition of a cigar. A cigarette is wrapped in paper completely unlike a cigar.

now youre just being a smarty poopoopants. :) fair enough, but thats the only word we have for those things. And I like the .... logs idea. I think ill use that in public and see what happens. Its not really a big deal, though. Its just me nitpicking is all. Like if we make the destinction between analog and ecig, then wouldnt the ecig be an analog because it's analogous to smoking cigarettes? PLus, it uses electricity. Double bam! take that! hehe I motion to call cigarettes crabsticks (because crab is the horoscope cancer sign). Anybody with me? And lets call ecigs fogsticks cause hot damn do they fog up my room with all my VG vapinz

From the Urban Dictionary -

Analog Cigarette
The common traditional cigarette, a crude, old-fashioned nicotine delivery device, consisting of processed tobacco wrapped in a paper tube, from which smoke is inhaled after being lit.

So named to differentiate it from the more modern and less harmful electronic cigarette.
Dude, you're still smoking analog cigarettes? Get with the tech and vape, man!

I don't think it's a term people use outside of a message board. I would never say, "Sue is outside smoking an analog." They'd think I was on crack. It's just message board lingo.
I'm thinking why not just differentiate by calling it what it is.... a tobacco cigarette, or a cancer stick >:)... perhaps even a coffin nail.

Noun 1. An organ or structure that is similar in function to one in another kind of organism but is of dissimilar evolutionary origin. The wings of birds and the wings of insects are analogs.

2. A chemical compound that has a similar structure and similar chemical properties to those of another compound, but differs from it by a single element or group. The antibiotic amoxicillin, for example, is an analog of penicillin, differing from

Its sort of a stretch, but it works for some people.

There's more than one definition of analog, not all pertain to the field of electronics.

I remember I read somewhere that some or all of the ecig batteries use PWM (pulse width modulation). That makes them quite digital I would say. As far as I know, real cigarettes don't use PWM. You could say they have an analog power supply (ie. not digital).
And yes, I'm nitpicking. Or, as they would say in my country, .....ing ants.

I'm still voting for "Electro-..."...

Indeed that is the real question. What in the hell do we call e-cigs when they soon won't look like a cigarette at all. I think the eGo-T is the coolest looking watch-a-ma-call-it I've ever seen. I don't like calling it a PV. I liked the latest name the was in my Tornado instruction--recreational nicotine inhaler.

I agree with the OP. Technically, of course, cigarettes are indeed "analog." My problem is that so are our pv's, so it's not making any kind of distinction between the two.

Speaking of terms that I can't bring myself to use, I also loathe the term "e-cigarette". My personal vaporizer is not a cigarette, and so I refuse to call it one. Adding the "e" doesn't make it any better. People are also more accepting of it when I tell them it's a personal vaporizer (or pv or vaporizer), rather than an e-cig. After all when I'm using it, I'm not smoking, I'm vaping.

And my last pet peeve is that when you are letting a juice sit for a few days or weeks to improve its flavor, you are not, in fact, "steeping," you are allowing time for diffusion to take place. Instead of steeping, I say "resting".

I know it's ...., but these misnomers really bothered me a lot when I first came to this board. I've grown more or less used to them since then, but I refuse to perpetuate them.

I'm not terribly fond of the term "e-cigarette" (it's unwieldy to say, for one), but "personal vaporizer" sounds like something you need because you have rosacea or something.

Because then we become one of 'them', the ex-smokers that we all hated when we were still smoking.

I disagree. The only way we become one of them is if we go on a crusade trying to bully our smoker friends into quiting because we did. Or look at a smoker we don't know with disdain because we did what we're sure they could do if they wanted to.

I dunno. I agree with swedishfish on this. Using disparaging terms is a way of expressing disdain, intended or not. When I smoked, I would sure have taken it that way.

When I smoked, I already called them "cancer sticks" and "coffin nails." I guess I was sort of conflicted about smoking. :) Glad to be on the much lower risk version, no matter what we decide to call it.

On another thread, somebody called it a Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhalation System.

True, comprehensible, and easy to remember.

But the acronym SUCKS.
