I love ya'll.

After 1127 attempts I have 6 vivi novas with ss working like a dream and no rba luck. Same story with either device positive leg sucks .... I'm getting weary on Jameson so forgive me. I have a Griffin w clear tank= DID clone/cobra clone/whathaveyou/DICHORBRA. For the most part, like everyone else the top coil will not give me any love, hot as diablo's ... after chipotle. I keep walking away and coming back every hour or so. I know (pretty damn sure) my oxidation is good, being I can get it to work on my nova's. I figured this would be a cinch compared to vivi's with the cramped ... space you have to wrap with. I'm wrong..very wrong in fact. Not really asking for advice, I've been on these boards for 2+years and I know the answers are written in the 2 thousand threads I've read. Just heavily buzzed and heavily frustrated. I'll get back to more fail tomorrow, ya'll vape on and have a good evening.

Wish there was a drunky smiley

Jameson!

Wait you said something else? :)

You'll get there with rba's. Frustration means your working in the right direction. It's a good kind of frustration, to a point, that you just have to set them aside and let them be for a bit. Come back and make it work!

JAMESON! :D

Well NE Ohioan, perhaps we can vape one day and share a bott....half gallon.

I've had my vulcan/did clone for a couple months now. I finally got it working in the last two weeks and it was worth all the frustration. First I couldn't get the mesh rolled thin enough to fit through the wick hole. I set it aside for a week at the time and just looked at it while I used my vns and carto tanks. Then something just clicked.. I watched Zen's video on how to set up the zap.. I did exactly what he did. I tilted and let the juice flow while heating the coil. I took long smooth draws. Even though I've wrapped numerous coils, I'm still using the same SS wick that I started with. It's wonderful. So wonderful I'm now thinking I'm going to have to alter my diy juice that I use in it. I can't vape as much as I want because I can now feel the nic so much. My flavor is so pure that I'm going to have to decrease the added flavors because now they're just too much.

Keep at it. Walk away for more than an hour. I feel like I had to learn to vape it as much as I had to learn to build it. I just bought a drunker tank.. it's similar to the VN in setting up. Rewicked with cotton, it's giving as pure and clean flavor as the did clone. what helped me the most (other than Zen's video) was even though I was seeing people having problems.. I also saw lots of people not having problems and enjoying RBAs.. I figured if they could do it so could I :)

When you get it, you will feel a joy you have never felt before. :)

Seriously, keep at it. Once you get it down, it starts to become second nature. Until you start playing with something else.

Now that the whiskey has worn off, It's time to try again. It's just that darn top coil and on the Griffin it's not a far stretch at all from the wick. I had an aga-t (that I was never able to use because of crappy threads) an it's considerably closer than that. I'm thinking it's either just too tight or too loose.

or not spaced properly from the other coils. as it is only 3/4 of a full wrap i find the angle and spacing as it starts to wind down the wick the biggest factor in getting it to stop shorting for me.

Anyone have a direct method for the top coil? Is it a little above the nuts, like going on a downward slope to the post, or upward, or straight across.

personaly i try to wrap the coil so it is close to straight into the nut, so for me it works out to right about 2 ohms with 32g. did you try wrapping the coil using the drill bit method? when i do this i keep the drill but in the coil and attach the neg, then pull the wire tight to make sure all the coils are even tention, then i put the wire into the top nut but not lock it down yet, i will then adjust the coils on the drill bit for spacing and making them even, and sometimes this will cause a few of them to become loose.

once the spacing is worked out i loosen the topnut and pull the wire tight again to make sure the coils are even tension again, then from their its usually just playing a bit with spacing. not so much playing with the top coil but try messing with the coil right below it, sometimes that first coil spacing can do the trick.

Well I've kind of got one working the vape is amazing but I think it could be better. 4 wraps of 32g @ 1.6ohm. Was trying to get to 1.9-2.2 which was what my other coils were reading. there is still a tiny hotspot on the top coil, but not as bad as before. I really don't want to scrap this coil, i'll just keep fiddling but man I've adjusted every coil so many times I don't know what to do next. I'm running it at 3.3v and it's not bad at all.

A few quick questions

Any reason why I could have a nice even lit coil and when I put juice in the top hotspot flares up like mad?

Can you run these at higher volts after they're broken in? For instance; I could most likely not go above say 4v on a 1.8 carto because it burn/dry hhits etc. I thought I've read that after these are broken in you can go crazy with the voltages like a 1.7ohm at 5v.

The air hole will definitely need adjusting, I guess I'll get some sandpaper today, can anyone recommend what grade? As for the tight draw, I may be able to stop at a friends house to bore it out. Most say 1/16?

One more thing, my coil started at 1.6 then dropped to 1.4 30 min later and now sits at 1.1. Is this loose or tight coils or a wick issue?

could be loose or touching coils, wick contacting the bottom of the tank or a stray wire., it shouldnt keep dropping a little fluctuation is ok but should even out and stay there. usually a little poking after the wick is wet will even it right out.
i dont think i would run a 1.7 at 5v myself once they break in they just run better, doesnt mean it needs more juice or it will taste burned just like anything else, carto, nova etc.

So I'm pretty new to rebuildables but I finally got a nice working wick and coil set up on the Cobra. I am curious as to exactly what the difference is between a short and a hotspot. I know what the hotspot is of course but not why? So before I add juice all my coils should glow evenly? After adding juice and getting a good wick set up it shouldn't glow any more, so does that top hotspot just mean there isn't enough juice getting to that part if the coil?? Thanks!

Boognish will return!

Well I'll let the vets answer this but after having success today I'll give it a shot. I think the top coil is due to it being loose considering it's not a full wrap. It could also be the other coils close to it are not spaced evenly. It could also be the distace between the top coil and positive post, try to get as close as possible without touching and without strangling the wick. Believe me it's a pita and constantly giving me probs. But today I've made 2 working coils in a row at 2.2 ohms! It's worth the aggravation.

A short is actual short in the coil where it stops firing, your device would throw an error code and you may see the coil pop like spark in a certain area. It is usually just due to oxidation issues in the wick

So guys I didnt really get full answer on this. Should I keep the voltage down for a few tanks before trying to go hard? Like I'm at 2.2ohm and vapin at 3.8 and it's good but I like to vape at around 4.5. Should I play it cool for a few hours?

Holy **** this thing sucks some serious juice!

It may take some time for the wick to become fully 'seasoned' and you'll others speak of a metallic taste from a new coil wire or the mesh itself. Also as it builds up a layer of burnt juice/oxidation/etc it should wick a bit better than new.

I've never held back once I got a coil short/hotspot free. I vape around 9-12 watts depending on juice and use a 60/30 mix @ 30mg nic. I've noticed some of the metallic taste early on but literally about 1/4 to 1/2 a tankfull (depending on size) that goes away and it's clear sailing unless I drop, bump or jar loose a coil and get another short/hotspot.

It's a labor of love and I'll be cleaning up my existing AGA-T (originals) tonight and seeing how the wicks look and most likely just burn off juice/crud with a torch and re-coil them. 2 new AGA-T2's w/ glass coming in for some juices that like to eat plastic (cinnamon, banana, etc)

Ready the laboratory! :D
