I'm going in for oral surgery on Friday. Ouch!!! It seems I have an infection around a titanium post that is for a tooth implant. The doctor said I probably got it while having my teeth cleaned (The dentist office isn't supposed to to use that tool that squirts water around implants).

Anyway, I will have stitches in my mouth. But I don't know if I can not vape. I'm only off cigs for 50 days now. vaping would be better than smoking, but either is going to hurt with raw stitches. My face will be so numb for the first 8 hours I probably couldn't take a decent draw anyway. Oh well, I guess that is what the Vicodin is for.

I'm not sure what I'm more freaked out about, scalpels in my mouth or not being able to vape afterwards! I'm going to be jonesing for some nic really fast. I may try a patch or something. Perhaps vaping won't hurt after the first day. I hope not, because I'm nowhere near ready to quit yet. I'm still at 18-24mg. Arrrggghhh!

Hope everything goes well! If it comes down to it, though, vape if you have to and do not smoke.

Actually, this post made me laugh at myself and my nutty addiction a bit. I don't think I ever made it through the parking lot after leaving the dentist's office, no matter what was done (root canals, extractions, whatever) without lighting up!

It ought a be a cake walk compared to having the implant... implanted .

I'd probably use my easiest draw device & hold tongue over wound ....
& keep it clean ....
I would think the pg/vg might actually be helpful bacteria wise
it would be the suction I would worry about.
But that is usually a dry socket prevention thing...
I would probably "just ask" dr.'s opinion.
my perio guy says my mouth looks much better since vaping!

Good Luck! Hopefully it will heal FAST!

I made it through the procedure. It seems OK so far. But this Friday I will know more. I think it take a little time before I know if the infection is all gone. My Dr wants me to see him on a on-going basis for a while.
It was much more of a surgery than I thought it would be. Should I mention the horrible metal tools used to scrape the jawbone of granulated-material (infection). The surgery left me weak and dizzy for a few days. I'm pretty sure I was in shock for a while, but I drove home that day anyway.

I haven't smoked or vaped since then. I really do miss my smokes/vapes a lot. I'm just too scared to do anything that might lead to a repeat of that. I will let it all heal up and then think about it. I guess I will just abstain until then. Right now I'm more worried about infections, stitches healing, and being able to eat pizza again in a few weeks. I'm on a liquids and mashed potatoes diet now.

Seriously, if you are thinking about dental implants you need to do some research first (The answer you are looking for is "HELL NO !"). Implants can get infected and thus cause bone loss, there can be painful operations to fix them for a variety of problems, and they can lead to amputation and even death. The government doesn't require a national database of reported failures so no one knows how many failed last year. Why open yourself up to a life time of waiting to be infected and the horrors that result? Just don't do it. I guess I'm anti-implants now, but for good reason.

Vape-on my brothers and sisters. Vape-on and say a prayer for all of us who would join you except for our circumstance! Vape-on and perhaps we will join you again soon!

Oh yikes! I have one dental implant and said I will never go through that horror again. Months of visits, endless hours in the chair for what? One tooth in the back of my mouth? Oh and since my insurance considered it "cosmetic" I paid thousands for this ride of terror. I pray to the gods of teeth never to go through what you had to endure -you poor thing. I truly hope you feel better soon.

Ok so 3 weeks ago I had to have all my teeth extracted from a serious infection. And they did two implants in the lower jaw after a bone graft, now I'm scared after reading what you wrote. And a week after the extractions they had to open my upper gum up and shave off some bone. But i'm gonna admit I vaped after all of it and yep i'm a nicotine addict so bad that I vaped through my nose.

Update:
Just saw my Dr and he said the stitches are healing and there is no current sign of infection. Woohoo! Because of the small bone loss around the top of the post a couple of threads may show through the gum. I can live with that. I got another visit in 2 weeks so I hope it goes as well. My Dr is pretty adamant that brushing/smoking didn't cause the infection. He is convinced it was the dental cleaning Prophy-Jet device that shouldn't have been used near my implants. Below are some observations about my ordeal.

Quitting Vaping:
I was vaping 18-24mg my whole waking hours. Quitting vaping was nothing like quitting cigarettes. I never felt that physical urge to vape. I did miss vaping a lot though. There seems to be huge mental urge to vape. It's a little like taking the blanket away from Linus in the Charlie Brown cartoons. It was really pretty easy for the first week. But then you mentally want your blanket. A lot!

I want a smoke:
So, at work I have to pass by the smokers on my way to and from work. Lately the smoke smells really enticing. A week ago when I was vaping the smell of smoke would have made me ill. (haven't vaped in a week because of the surgery to cure infection)
1. If vaping the cigarette smoke smells bad.
2. If not vaping the cigarette smoke smells good. Yikes!

I am not addicted, but I am such an addict:
I haven't had cigarettes in 60 days or e-cigs in 7 days. I assume that I am clean of chemicals that either could have given me. I am no longer "physically" addicted to any of it.
Ahhh, but I am "mentally" addicted. I so want to vape right now it's making me crazy. I refuse ever to smoke cigarettes again. But I am pretty sure I will be vaping in a week or so. I'm going to let the stitches heal a little more and try my best to abstain for just a little while longer
.
I think I will go ahead with my plans to buy a Reo Grand. if I decide I can give it all up (Not likely) I will just give it to a friend who smokes. I may also 'try" to use PG only with 12mg nic unflavored. It just sounds more healthy.

Cheers!
