Okay I just checked.

When SJ opened this forum, there were 23 people brought over from the old forum.

Out of those 23 people - 6 had 0 posts (even now) and 7 had less than 10 posts (even now), and 1 had a total of 11 posts.

Out of the remaining 9 (SJ was using 2 names), so that brings the total number to 8 that were active in January 2008. :)

I'd love to hear stories from the veterans about how they found out about vaping way back when vaping was brand new and practically unheard of. How did you all even find out about it?

I remember my initial exposure: it was through spam emails featuring sexy sirens puffing on cig-a-likes, touting malarkey. SMOKE ANYWHERE! ONE CARTRIDGE IS EQUIVALENT TO A GAZILLION CARTONS OF CIGARETTES! FREE TRIAL, JUST GIVE US YOUR CC#!

I remember thinking, electronic cigarettes. What kind of goofy %?@# is that?

I think the more vapers there are, the more money there is for someone who creates something great -- whether it is new or an improvement on what went before. That incentive. I think the technology growth is going to be exponential going forward.

In some ways, it's almost more confusing now. Back then you had to decide
cartridge vs cartomizer
manual vs automatic
flavor
strength

And it all worked (except the cartridge filler.)

Battery life was crummy but they worked.
There was good tasting liquid. (There's more today.)

If I didn't start vaping until now, I'd go to the newbie section and be so overwhelmed by the options that I'd spend months dithering before buying. I think the easiest time was probably when clearomizers and tanks first came out. You could find out if you liked vaping for a minimal investment -- a couple of eGos, a charger, a few atomizers/cartos/clearomizers and some liquid. The next step up (mods) was pricey enough that it made sense to wait a couple of months before taking the plunge.

I so much agree with this Poeia ! Less variety made it a whole lot easier to just get started. I'd be so much more confused about where to get started if I was a newbie today. :(

I think it was spacekitty!

I just remember that she would Post Riddles and Brain Teaser Post which were Fun. Then she just kinda Dropped Off the Edge and I never heard from her again.

I see her all the time... usually in supplier threads I think.
