Hey all,

I've been reading for the past three hours on success stories and people that have smoked for 30 years being able to quit and go to eCigs but I haven't been so lucky . I went from 2 packs a day to about 5 a day originally when I first started vaping. it slowly crept back up as the quest for Decent Nicquid was becoming drawn out and wasting money. Originally I was chasing down tobacco menthol flavors which is an attempt that may never be achieved. I finally got into halo cigs, ave juice , WTA, and variable voltage which VV REALLY helped but I still didnt kick the habit. vaping on 24mg on a madvapes VV box mod using DC cartos and 5ohm cartos for 7.4 volt vaping. Im about to decide if I should get the provari to put all the junk behind me and try again with the newest of the new and you would think that should give me the push I need to stop vaping ??? Prob not

So now you have my background. VV box mod on 24 mg Nicquid and roughstack 3.7v as backup and currently using a dct tank for having an all day vape mod.

What are some things I can do to prove I can live without analogs ? I'm scared to not have analogs In the house because that gives me a feeling of comfort knowing they are there.

Any other ideas you can give a ECF veteran/real world newb on how he can finally move on ?

Morning cigs are hard to break, plus the half hour drive into work, I used to be 8 analogs in before the day even started. Chain smoking all morning. Uggh I hate it but some days I wake up and my mind blocks out vaping from my memory entirely and start to smoke. Most days I chain vape but other days it's like I never cut down, crazy.

Any ideas ? Wake up calls ? I'm spending a lot of money analogs and vaping so I have to stop one. 16$ a day for analogs is high but so is vaping gear when you don't use it. :glare: especially when I'm about to reward myself with a provari.

Let me know your thought !!!!:p:?::confused::blush:

Edit : forgot to mention I use nasal snuff about 8-10 times a day and snus occasionally. But mostly snuff which is similar to snus in many ways besides the way it gets delivered to our body

Sorry you are having a tough go of it. My suggestions

1) Keep the cigarettes around but challenge yourself to go a few days without them. Repeat extending the period until you hopefully get disgusted with them. A week without them will make you appreciate how good it feels to not smoke.

2)Buy a few packs to a carton and tell yourself you won't buy them again. Ration them out as far as you can so you appreciate every last one of them.

3) Try 36mg ejuice and new flavors until you find one that works for you.

3b)Keep your PV by your bed and vape like mad before you even get up to help with the morning urge.

4) Look into snus

Maybe instead of moving forward, for now take a step back. It sounds like to me you are having a really hard time giving up the comfort of cigarettes so here what I propose. Get yourself a Kr808 kit and probably start with auto batteries. Get a portable charging case so you dont run out of batteries while your out and about and some nice cartos. I think this will help transition to vaping more then a big mod would. Once your not thinking of ciggarettes so much then return to your VV or even a provari if that is what you desire. For me autos helped me get used to vaping. I started with manuals but couldnt get used to them and retured to ciggarettes. After finding some nice autos I became much more comfortable and made the transitiom. I would reccomend V4L for your batteries and PCC and some Boge 2.0 ohm cartos. Hope this helps.

My question is how bad do you want to quit? I myself have smoked for 20 years but only 1 pack a day. Only because I wanted to save money. Although, I started at 10 1/2 yrs old and so, my urges are totally different from someone that started later in life. Smoking became a part of my life growing up.

It was really hard for me to put down in general. I tried over and over again. Only managing to quit for a month at the most before smoking a cig again. My addition was to the nicotine, inhaling, and exhaling of smoke. Which vaping has given me.

Give yourself a time frame with your last pack of smokes. Think about what would happen if you don't quit. Do you really wanna die from cancer? Are you willing to leave what you've worked for and who you love in your life before your time? How much do you like coughing up....whatever during the day?

MAKE SURE YOU WANNA QUIT then stick to it. After your last cigarette from your last past. Vape like your life depended on it. Even if it means every single minute of the day. That's what I did and went through a 100ml in 3 weeks. If you could vape more, do it. As much as you can to relieve the urge. Don't give yourself a timeline on cutting down nic or whatever until your body tells you so.

That's my advice for you and I'm sure that it'll work. Mind over matter and plus, your not going cold turkey. Your just transitioning to something that's almost the same as what your doing now. You still get to inhale and exhale "smoke" and get the nicotine you want. Step up your nic to 36mg....whatever it takes to get you to quit.

Obviously you want to quit and that's why your making this thread right now. You just have to stick to your goal.

...5ohm cartos for 7.4 volt vaping

That's only 10.5 watts - you can almost do that on 3.7v with a LR atty. There are 5v setups that'll walk all over that :)

I don't think "rewarding yourself" with a Provari is gonna do anything at all to resolve the issue as the issue ain't more voltage or newer toys - the issue is both physical and psychological dependency and *those* are the issues that need to be addressed. The way to solve a problem is to solve it ;)

Not everybody quits without some discomfort. IM frequently less than HO maybe what's appropriate is to go up to 36mg for awhile if 24mg ain't cutting it - maybe just in the mornings. Maybe snus to get you through the rough spots are the thing to do, but the bottom line is you've gotta do something different and doing the same thing with a new toy isn't doing something different :)

You got down to five cigarettes a day - you did it once and you can do it again. I smoked for 38 years and have been blessed with both COPD and adult onset asthma and this .... probably will kill me at some point - but I don't smoke.

Address the issues. Modify the behavior, sidestep the triggers and use a support system.

You *can* do this. You did it before.

Good luck -

Thanks wizard. Exactly what I needed "tough love". Ecigs are not going to quit analogs for me. I have to do that by myself. I need to train myself not to reach for an analog in traffic or reward myself with an analog after I fixed a 2 hour issue. I just have to change it up I guess. For example when waking up don't get coffee right away and head for the garage to smoke. Have coffee at the table and vape and see how that feels.

Btw. I have been looking at "user" created graphs which show certain sweet spots and I was under the impression 10.5 watts was high ?!! Are you saying I should be going for more ? 10.5 isn't too hot for me , but i never bothered to see what people are vaping at bc of nice color chart :)

What would be a good wattage to try? And I know taste...heat...flavor is all subjective .

Maybe 7.4v at 4 ohm = 13.6 w ? is that around what vape ? I know off topic but it could be why I'm not "satisfied" when vaping ??

Thanks for your help so far guys and girls

Everybody is different Junior. Tobacco addiction is unique to every individual both psychologically and chemically. I think that mind set was the most important thing for me. I had learned from other attempts at quitting that if I was going to have any success at all I had to convince myself that I WAS going to dump the cigs and switch to PVs. I had to decide that VAPOR WAS MY NEW HABIT!
I worked on that inner struggle for a couple months before I even ordered an ecig but when I did I threw my remaining cigs into the wood stove in my shop and that was the end of them for me.
Been over 19 months now. I was over a pack a day smoker from age 12 until age 52. 40 years by my math.

Now I'm not an expert at this by any means but part of this is behavior modification, Junior - and getting out of situations that trigger a desire to smoke. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but the physical effects of nicotine withdrawal only take about three days and the whole rest of it is psychological dependency.

When I started vaping I put sickarettes down immediately and (knocking on wood) haven't picked them back up again but not everybody quits that way. I think it's important to realize that *each* cigarette is the result of a decision to smoke and you make that decision dozens of times a day. The bottom line is that for some people it doesn't matter whether they're vaping off a car battery, the desire to smoke isn't gonna leave as easy for some people as it does for others.

Your ten watts or so is plenty of power. A new PV or a lower resistance atomizer isn't gonna do a thing for you but raising nic levels might.

Each cigarette is the result of a choice. Choose not to smoke every other one and vape instead :)

Switch from coffee in the morning to tea or orange juice. Stay out of the garage (this is another choice) and vape at the coffee table. Try higher nic juices in the morning.

And understand that you *can* do this. Like I said, you did it before ;)

Junior put the analogs out of reach!!!
Heck put them in the trunk of your car so you have to get out of the car or leave the house to get them. Make it more convenient to pick up your PV.
Good luck. :)

+1

A very good idea here. They're available if you want them, and they always will be, so you have to reconcile that. Just do little things that will make you think twice about reaching for them. And if you can keep pushing that first one of the day off further and further, maybe one day you won't get around to lighting up. Best of luck to you!

I only had roll your own tobacco around when I started vaping. And I hated rolling cigs a lot. If you don't want to go that far, don't buy your favorite brand of cigs.

My mother needed 36 mg. the first couple weeks. She smoked light cigarettes but she smoked a loooong time. When she was off the cigs she dropped it down to 24, then 18 and now she's vaping 6 mg.

I'd move the cigs or change the brand and increase the nicotine. But you have to want to quit more than you want to smoke. Maybe you aren't there yet. The first time I vaped I saw that it could be a possibility that I could quit. I was deeply motivated by the cig smell. I know I should say health first but I hated the fact that non-smokers thought I stunk, or I didn't want to give people a ride in my car or in my house. I was so sick of that whole thing. Plus the price. I don't have to tell you how much cigs are in NJ. I don't know how anyone can afford it.

...you gotta actually wanna quit to do so...sounds like maybe you are looking for a magic wand and I bet the Provari ain't it...there is a certain level of inconvenience curve involved and it sounds like you just don't wanna climb that curve...before I go any further, let me say, I was a 3ppd/40yr smoker and put 'em down within 5 days of starting vaping...I know everyone is different...it was an addiction I thought I would never quit, I only smoked 14 before I quit completely...suggestions...I had one pack of funkarettes when I started and I was determined it was to be the last...don't bring the funkies in the car with you, at home, keep a pack in an out of the way place and let that pack be your last so, RATION them...try to have none but, allow yourself 2 in the morning(but, try not to)...don't take any with you in the car or whenever you go out(very important)...allow yourself two in the evening but, not until after supper(and try not too)...like I said, you truly gotta wanna quit, to quit so, work on that psychological aspect and good luck...........
madjack:2cool:
p.s. Creniker may be right about taking a step back and go with an analog look alike instead of a Provari...which is certainly no magic wand...maybe.........mj

It's true that you have to want to give up cigarettes. In my experience -- and this is not everyone's experience obviously -- scare tactics don't work. List all of the killer ingredients in cigs but it really doesn't phase me in the slightest.

Here's the thing -- from my perspective, anyway. You like smoking. There's something about it that keeps you coming back to the analogs even in spite of a better, healthier, tastier alternative that you already have lots of.

Why?

Is there something missing in E-juice that you get from cigarettes? Is there something in E-juice you don't like that cigarettes don't have? Or is this purely psychological? You've already said it comforts you knowing there are cigarettes in the house and the idea of having none scares you. There's clearly a psychological, perhaps even emotional component here, and it probably goes deeper than cigarettes. You may need to figure out what that is.

Have you tried E-juices with whole tobacco alkaloids? You can get them at Aroma E-Juice. Perhaps they might help. (Here's a review from Terraphon) You could also make a deliberate effort to make smoking a little more inconvenient. Keep the cigarettes stored in a place that's not so easy to get to, and make yourself go outside to have a smoke.

Ultimately, though ... yeah, you're going to have to want to give them up. However, pinpointing what it is that's preventing you from doing that may help you figure out a way to overcome it.
