Hey I am late to the party
Well, at 53 years old and having smoked for 35 years (until precisely 4 Nov 2011), I cannot run that fast
And I spent some time at the hairdressers too, in order to .. hem hem.. "freshen up my natural blonde". Ahem... No grey hair here
- but no spring chicken either
Great video, choochoogranny
I love it!!!!
And yes, whatever has become of the Grey Panthers?
Our age group (over 50) is a big huge factor in the economy, at least in Europe. Everyone online is courting the '"silver surfers". The industry has been bringing out stylish shopping trolleys (I bought one and I see a lot of people using those, including middle-aged people from approx 35), comfortable + nice-looking shoes, comfortable+stylish clothing - cut for the lady and not for anorexic 13-year-olds, and a lot of very nice things. There are even several women's magazines coming out like "Brigitte Woman" - an edition of a women's magazine especially for the ladies over 40 who are not intested in seeing silly fashions modeled by anorexic teenagers and who could not care less about silly articles like "how to get a Latin lover into bed". The industry is courting us. We are the ones who have the money. And we will not be told what to buy.
.........
Little story about economic power:
I remember about 6 years ago:
The entire summer clothing collection in Germany - in any store - consisted of skin-tight hip-hugger pants (the low cut ones that give anybody a big huge beer belly), skin-tight stretch shirts made of 100% plastic , and gaudy colors. Ewwwww. As I had no intention of buying a carnival outfit, I did not buy one single piece all summer. Neither did my friends (except for one colleague who likes to go as "mutton dressed as lamb", as Charles Dickens so aptly put it. I will spare you the description....
). Well, the stores discounted the summer collection in June already. To no avail. Most mature ladies disdain clown outfits, even if those were given away for free
That stuff sat in the stores like lead.
The next summer, the stores were full of lovely clothing, cut for the lady, and in nice, decent colors. Needless to say: we went shopping
Ever since, the clothing stores have always sold nice things for the lady.
....
Yes, our generation has the economic power. The industry courts us. As we have the money. And our numbers are increasing steadily. Ever heard of the "aging population"? Hey, that is us! And the industry is courting us.
- - Now, how to turn this economic power into political power? To the industry, we are valued and courted customers. To the politicians, we are .... looking for printable word.... crap. How to change this? I would march. In addition to what I have been doing in Europe, in vaping advocacy.
Grey Panthers... hm...... I like the idea. I like it a lot.
