My husband and son have both told me they don't smell anything when I vape unless I'm using vanilla or cinnamon, in which case I'm an "almost life-like air freshener." Now that my sense of smell has returned, though, I'm on their case about changing the fragrance of their foul-smelling deodorant, shampoo, bath soap... I wish we had a lanai.

I know this is going to sound crass.. but i'm being completely honest.

In my early adulthood (18, i'm 26 now) I got involved with methamphetamine for about 6 months, smoking it.

Something funny... e-cig 'smoke' is identical in smell/clouds/the way it behaves to vaporized methamphetamine.. maybe it's just the nature of vaporization.. but i'm not the only person who has noticed this!

My G.F was so happy I finally quit..she has been witness to several of my past attempts..That's why the other night she comes out from the bedroom and asked from now on can I vape outside..As I sat on the lanai I quess I started to get a little angry because I felt like after all I went thru to quit smoking and the past 5 months at times haven't been a cake walk..about 3 weeks ago I had enough of ecig just wasn't satisfied then order the Map Tank and a Provari life is good again in my vapor world. So yes Im on the Lanai vaping I am in Hawaii so I shouldn't complain...I just wanted to be in front of the TV relaxing after work..but we share air space and I want her to be happy...but once in awhile I will have to sneak the unflavored stuff in there..LOL...Mahalo for listening Im glad to hear your advice..Pony

I don't think non-smokers can ever realize what we've been through to get where we are now. My husband smoked for 40 years and had been harassed relentlessly by co-workers, family, friends, etc. He's still put out that the most he got from those people was a "that's nice" when he switched, and his friends that are still smoking are just waiting for him to start again. His converts think he's a hero, so that makes up for everyone else.

Maybe the smell does bother some people, but to me it's like someone chewing gum or drinking coffee. Without getting all psychological, its possible, when one half of a couple complains about something like this, it's really about the attention given to whatever it is - maybe she's jealous of you wanting time to relax and vape?

I think if it were me, I would announce that I was buying a TV and a recliner for the lanai with the money I was saving from not buying cigarettes (not that I have actually saved any money!).

I am more cynical. I think that some non-smokers have very vivid imaginations, are extremely self-righteous, and lack a sense of fair play.

I'm just ornery enough to insist that if I'm paying part of the rent, I'm vaping indoors. Like it or lump it. Luckily, my husband is a former smoker who's happy that I'm vaping instead of smoking, so I have no issues. Also, he wouldn't dare try to tell me to vape outdoors; he knows better.

I'm sorry that really stinks. We often don't get the support we need or deserve when we vape. My first 60 days smoke free I went looking for a pat on the back from my Hubby. His opinion, I haven't quit anything so why should I be proud. Several months later, he keeps his opinions on vaping to himself and I buy stuff. Its not perfect but Its working. Your doing great!

It sounds to me like this is an issue about control and not really about the "smell" bothering her.

She should be so overjoyed that you quit smoking that your vaping inside should be no big deal to her.

This reminds me of people who see you vaping -- from a distance -- and assume you are smoking. They immediately go into exaggerated fits of coughing as if it's a cigarette, unaware that their little drama is ridiculous since there's no actual smoke making them cough. It's an act. Many non-smokers are similarly afflicted with this "righteousness" disease. It's why I have always preferred the company of smokers... much nicer people overall.
