I wonder why first time vapers want an ecig that looks like a real cig. As a matter of fact, I went for the lookalikes as well. But wouldn't it be more rational to go for something that looks totally NOT like a cigarette? I am interested in the psychology behind the choice. What do you think?

The main reason I stopped smoking was the cost. Getting something that looked like a cig kept the enjoyment. I started with Joye 510 mega and still with it 7 months later. I'm happy with it, enjoy holding it, and have no plans at the moment to change it.

People are creatures of habit. The uninformed nuB wants to emulate their previous habit as closely as possible. It's a comfort zone. Most quickly realize the shortcomings of their new devices and decide that form over function will not achieve their goals. It then reverses to a matter of function over form, as can be seen in the vast array of mods you see on the market. That's my opinion anyway.

My mindset was that of a smoker. Even picked my username with that mindset: OnMyWay to being an ex-smoker. I thought I had to have something that looked and tasted like a cig so I would have a chance at quitting. I remember thinking what is up with all these weird flavors. LOL Boy was I wrong.

I started off with a 510 because it felt like an analog when I held it. Getting the nicotine as a substitute just wasn't enough, which is why the patch, gum, and medication didn't work for me. Simulating the act of smoking was what I needed to quit. That meant that I needed something that would feel as close to smoking as possible, and that included how it felt in my hands. After a month or so I graduated to fat batts, but I don't think that I would have been as successful if I had not started on a standard 510.

Before we become vaporers we "think" we need our new cigarette to look and taste as close to our old cigarette as possible to be able to switch over because the look of a cigarette is where our comfort level is. We think that we couldn't possibly succeed with something that looks and taste nothing like our old cigarette. I think part of is also the fact that very few of us get to see in person and try out before hand any PV so we really don't have any first hand experience at all before we place our order over the internet with a vendor. Of coarse, then there are those people that don't wish to be noticed in public using something that looks wierd, but just want to blend into the woodwork (or think they will) as long as their PV LOOKS LIKE a cigarette. I remember thinking that "maybe" someday I could see myself using something that looked a little different than a cigarette but I'd NEVER be able to use some of really strange looking mods. Makes me laugh every time I think of it when I'm using my Roughstack

For me it was the only thing I saw.....I hung on to them for a while till I got over "being shy !"....Now ? I love my mods ! Love my GLV2 !

Most smokers are apprehensive about giving up analogs for an e-cig. They want something that most replicates the real cigarette experience because they believe this increases their chances of success.

Cigarettes are kinda like your first Teddy Bear. Comforting, warm, familiar smell, and always there. You don't want to give it up, but you know its time.

Mother always said, "Looks ain't everything". And this couldn't be more true with E-cigs.

Everyone Ive talked to about ecigs wanted something as close to an analog as possible.One guy looked at my GLV2 5v and said I want that.He just got it and loves it.Hes about 50yrs old and like me doesnt care what anyone else thinks.Most new vapors need to feel they are still smoking and alot just dont want to stand out.They are afraid they will look stupid huffing on a big old mod.They usually come around though.

If there was an analog sized 3.7-5.0 VV, 1100mAh battery with a 2ml carto on the market...you bet I'd have one...

I could always tuck an analog over my ear & Bic mini in my pocket...until PV's can be that compact, there will continue to be the progression many take from analog sized to big bat to mod...

good question. i started with a GLV2 and when using the normal palm and thumb button its more concealed than a 510 with the pinky out and jewel button.

I am actually very happy with my KR808. I don't like the 5v pass through as much as I like the 3.7v batteries. I've been doing this a little over a month and was (luckily) refunded on my first kit because of some issues. Even after getting all my money back, I still went for the KR808 manual, albeit in a bunch of girly colors without red LEDs and will be using 901 atty's with a drip tip in some applications and with autos and cartomizers in others.

Not everyone wants to turn vaping into a hobby. They just want something that was close to analogs so they can give up the smoke without giving up the habit and the nicotine.

If it was something that looked weird, I might have still tried it but I know my mother and mother-in-law wouldn't have. Its all about a person's unique needs. Those needs may or may not change over time, but a smoker wants to keep what is comfortable when first starting out, IMO.

Its much simpler then that and it does not include any psychology.
First of all - most commercials are for the cigarette looking devs.
Second - these are the cheapest ones, the pro-non-cig-looking stuff is alot more expensive. As a starter you will prefer something cheap just to check if the e-cig stuff is good or bad...
Third - One has to dig deeper in to the e-cig world, just to find these non lookalikes, usually

I am continually amazed at the folks on here who somehow believe they are superior to others because they vape on a big battery. Different strokes for different folks!
