hey all

well if you could not afford the best pv what is your second choice...

what would be the main reasons for it over the best besides price point things like it does this...

whats your feeling about that device...

is having a warranty on it for failures important to you...

if you could would you buy an extra one for the device if it was reasonably priced...

thanks for the info...

If what you are looking for is similar options to the Provary the Young June Lave Tubes would be a good suggestion.

Variable Voltage 1.5 Mod Kit - Smoke Anywhere For Penny's, LLC Store

This has many of the same options as the provary. 3-6 volts, 3amp limit, check your battery, check your ohms. fits the same caromizers, tanks etc. It's considered a poor man's provary.

I'd go with a good tube mod and a kick.

I'd make the choice because I could put good electronics with the tube of my choice.

Warranty is only useful to me if the stuff is USA made.

eGo Twist for backup.

My first choice would be a Young-June chrome v2.0 Vtube from VaporBeast for $75 (prices listed in this post include shipping, if any). Full-range VV, 3-amp limit, well-made and substantial, ergonomic access to all functions, and the early-production-run bugs have all been addressed and fixed. A very nice device, assuming you can live without the longer warranties of US-made APVs.

Young-June chrome v2.0 Vtube, full kit

Second choice would be a Penguin/Altoids mint tin mod by Caged from SmartVapes---VV, 6-amp OKR switching regulator, voltage display inside the case, dual 18650s for insanely long battery life. $60 (mod only), when they're in stock (they show up in dribs and drabs, a couple at a time, and sell very quickly---get on the email list to be notified when they're in stock).

Penguin/Altoids tin VV mods

An alternate to the Penguin would be a SmokTek VariCool VV SmokBox . Similar to the Penguin (6-amp switching regulator) in a smaller form factor (dual 14500s, 3aa box---better ergonomics in the hand), but no voltage display. $67.

SmokTek VariCool VV Smokbox

Note: Neither box mod has atty/carto resistance checking, which is why I'd get the Young-June Vtube first.

Or, if you can wait 2-3 weeks, you could opt for the closest possible knock-off to a ProVari, the new VARIO from VaporBeast. Same layout and functions as a ProVari, similar appearance, but with a 5-amp limit (ProVari v2 is 3.5 amps). $96 in full kit form or $79 for tube-only.

VARIO

In my personal opinion (and it is only that---my personal opinion), The Kick is a great idea (set-it-and-forget-it-power-regulation), but the implementation is less than perfect. For instance, the low-battery-cutoff has been reported as 3.6 volts, which is good to protect the battery, but makes for much shorter vape times with an 18500 and especially an 18350 before having to swap out batteries. The 10-watt limit is a bit low for some vapers, and---anecdotally, at least---a higher-than-expected percentage of Kicks seem to fail (judging from posts on ECF), which necessitates the hassle of return shipping for warranty replacement. It's good that Evolv stands behind their product, but I'm leery of getting a lemon.

Call me crazy, but I like manually adjusting the voltage to get the best possible vape for a given atty/carto or specific juice. The Kick is not designed for that kind of tinkering, since it must be removed from the tube mod to change the wattage setting. For my money, the Young-June Vtubes win in terms of quickest, easiest voltage changes.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I wouldn't go near the Vario.

Completely unknown entity from an unknown manufacturer - the prototypes didn't even have vents or a spring.
According to Pete Busardo, if you screw in a tank like a Nova then the airflow is completely shut off.

It may have the same menu system and it may look similar to the Provari but that's where the resemblance ends.

Agreed. That and they made it so FAT!

A buzz pro would be my second choice. I don't any lectures about stacked batteries either.

Buzz Pro is a good one. I personally just don't like analog potentiometers. I don't know about the Buzz Pro, but in general, analog potentiometers have a ridiculously short lifespan, unless you are the set it once or twice and forget it type.

Dirk and Ronda,

Both your posts make very good points. In fact, I feel the same way and have no intention of buying a VARIO. I listed it only because it's the most recent newly-anticipated toy in the APV market. Early adopters always run the risk of getting something not-ready-for-primetime, and yes, it's too fat. LOL.

I have a 35.00 VV box mod with an analog potentiometer. I've had it for a year. I use it at work. Use it at all levels of voltages. The damn thing is built like a Timex!

That makes me alot more comfortable about going for something like that as a backup... But then again, with the DNA module so cheap, and a husband who's handy, I'll probably go that route... Granted, that would also have an analog potentiometer, so I guess the same point still stands...

VV Gripper. Great menu, great battery life. All the functions of the Provari in a small lightweight unit. I have a Provari but use the gripper just as much.

I also say vv gripper impressed so far with it and i have 3 provaris. The gripper is light and has good options tells you ohms, batt.life, volts and take one aw imr 18650!It's the best cheap one i have tried volts also stay good till battery needs charge. Will it last as long as a vari i doubt it but it's a good cheapy.

Don't speak so soon. The Vario is not the Imotion2 V+, it's an evolution of that product. Please reserve judgement until the final Vario is released.
