I started vaping about 1 month ago. I was reluctant because I've tried Blu e cigs and I hated how the hit felt and I never felt satisfied or even close to it. I bought a Kanger T3S tank and was given a free really cheap varient battery (not sure what brand) after about 4 hours of on and off use, it tasted burnt and started to flood. Then I noticed that my juice got REALLY dark and thick almost like maple syrup. I was told it was the battery so I purchased an eGo twist and a new coil. It has been 4 days since I bought them (using it on 4.0-4.2 setting) and the coil stopped heating all together. It just wasn't producing any heat, noise, or vapor. I was told these coils should last about 2-3 weeks. Is it just the type of coil/tank? Or is it the battery? Or is it me? Please help before I sink more of my money into something I know nothing about. (Or worse, go back to cigarettes)

Well, I've only been vaping for a couple months longer than you have, but in my experience with the eGo Twist & the vamo, I get more mileage out of lower ohm coils on lower voltage. I happen to enjoy the 1.5 & 1.8 ohm coils & vaping between 3-4 volts (closer to 3 v with the 1.5 ohm coil & closer to 4 v with the 1.8 ohm coil). Currently, I use the 1.8 ohm coil on the T3S & get 1-2 weeks usage. I get a few more days on the 1.5 ohm coil in the protank v2. However, YMMV, & I believe juice also has an impact. Plus, your own choice of ohms & volts will depend on your own tastes. I know that I never got a full week out of the higher ohm coils (2.2 & 2.5).

I have noticed that I can get a little more mileage out of the coils by rinsing them under water every other day & then dry burning before putting them back in the tank.

Welcome to vaping :vapor:

Leaking and a burnt taste can be due to a number of factors. As far as the taste goes, several things can cause this, and I find not letting the tank have enough time to wick more juice in is the number one. I usually have a rule of letting a tank sit roughly 30 seconds before taking another draw, as the wick might not be saturated with liquid before then. Also, thicker liquids containing VG (glycerin) tend to be more thick and can either gunk up the wick and coil or wick really slowly. If you've let it sit for a while and it still tastes burnt, you might need to either replace and/or clean the coil.

First, you clean the heads and the actual clearomizer too. That most likely will take care of the burn taste. Juice will get darker as you leave it in the the clearomizer. You should empty the really dark stuff every few refills as well. Another thing to try is to make sure the head is screwed on tightly. Take off the bottom and give the head a good twist.

It does not sound like it is the battery at all. It sounds more like it is the clearomizer. Usually Kanger clearos are pretty reliable, but sometimes, you have to mess with them. 2-3 weeks is the max Kanger heads usually last me. If you are using one clearomizer all the time, it will be even less.

If the above suggestions still don't work, you can leave the coil heads soaking in alcohol ( isoprpyl or vodka) overnight. Unfortunately, you do get a dud once in a while. Don't fret, you will get it

My understanding is the higher the ohm the lower the voltage and the lower the ohm the higher the voltage. If you have 2.4 ohm dial it down to 3.3-3.6, at 1.6 dial it up to 4.0 and up. Find your sweet spot.

That's what I thought, too. Before I got a vv device, that is. Maybe I just vape weird

There are more then one things that can cose this, heavy VG juice, sweeted juice,
Or just a bad coil head.
There is also one more thing to try.
In any atty carto or clearo there is a middle post below the deivice.
This is the one that make contact with the battery positive post on the mod or e cig.
It also in some devices were the air is been pulling to the coil.
Sometime you can over tight the clearo in this post is forced in,
And make you air intake tight draw.
If this is the case try to pry that post a bit out and dont tighten it to much.
Pur out the dark liquid as it is not somthing that can be recover.
Add new juice and see if the wicking is good.
If not only then put new head but this time dont tighten it very hard, just
To the point that it will make contact.
Dont give up there is a curve of lurning we all come to pass.
Cheers

Hey Molson and welcome!

I use the Kanger MT3S's and don't have any problems. They are the same thing only with an aluminum tube around the tank. With the juices I vape, anything much over 4.0 volts tends to have a little burnt taste and does turn the juice dark. Also, being in the sun a good bit will help turn the juice dark.

Are you cleaning out your tank and atomizer every few refills? Darker juices will gum up an atty faster. Sweeter juices will gum up an atty faster. I have been getting about 1.5 to 2 weeks on an atomizer in my MT3S's before vapor production drops low enough that I replace them. I haven't ever had one completely die on me.

Is your button on the eGo Twist lighting up when you press it? Is it flashing when you press it indicating it needs to be charged. Hopefully none of these questions are insulting. I have just learned in the computer world, never skip the basics and never assume someone knows all the basics. You might miss a simple solution.

Good luck with the vaping!

You guys have it backward. You use higher voltage for higher ohms and vice versa. 4 volts at 1.6 ohms will most likely taste burnt.

I went back to double check myself and I have that backwards, I'm sorry..... it's the higher the ohm the higher the voltage and the lower the ohm the lower the voltage. If you have 2.4 ohm dial it to 4.0 and up , at 1.6 dial it down to 3.3-3.6. Happy Vaping!!!!

Be sure to clean your heads on a regular basis. This will minimize problems & make them last longer.
Always be sure to have a supply of backup heads. You have to have backups for everything.

Sounds like you need to replace the head & start over. Sometimes the liquid can get ruined once a bad flavor sets in. Determine whether or not your liquid is OK so you don't spoil the whole bottle should you choose to pour it back in.

You might want to try some different delivery systems. I like the Kanger Evods & Protanks.
Good luck.

Thank you everyone for helping. Yeah, whenever my juice gets dark I pour it out and I usually clean out my atomizer with a paper towel before any refills (not touching the wick of course, I made that mistake with my first wick) my battery had a full charge when my coil stopped working. I believe the coils I use are about 1.8 or 2.0 ohms and if I put my voltage lower than 3.9 I dont get any flavor or vapor. Honestly, I'm not sure I'm hitting it right. I take my draws like I would a cigarette, but I met someone who used it more like hookah. I understand the general maintenance (charging the battery, cleaning the atomizer and the tank, dont get the juice in the tube for the atomizer when refilling, etc.) I just feel lost with so many choices and what the best is and how to use everything properly

backwards...forwards...turn in circles 'til I'm dizzy...lower the volts or ohms...up the devil's pay -- it's all good :toast:

As you said originally "Find your sweet spot" :vapor:

With my Spinner I run it around 4.1-4.2 for my mini protank (2.5 ohm) and about 3.5-3.7 for my T3S (1.8 ohm). I forgot to dial down before putting my t3s on and man what a burnt taste I got!

Also I get the flooding/leaking if I let the juice get down below about a 1/3 so I top off a lot. Make sure you are re-tightening that head EVERY TIME YOU TOP OFF, because it always seems to loosen up on me, so I'll end up with flooding, gurgling, or even no connection to the battery. I've also been able to cure a lot of gurgling by soaking up with a piece of rolled up paper towel...the condensation really builds up some times and then drips back down in there.

I can run as high as 4.2v if i take my time vaping. My Mini PT-II has a 2.5ohm in it now and i do take a couple stiff hits in the morning with it. I ran my PT-II the first week at 4-4.2v and it seemed fine but now its a bit rough for me. This is mostly with a Icy Mint 50/50 juice. Other flavors and blends im sure will need adjustment based on your personal preference and mod.

I've actually played with the MiniPT quite a bit, but I've only used one flavor in it so far (caramel/apple/cinnamon 70/30), and at lower volts it's too...cool? I don't know it tastes weird to me, almost metallic. But any higher than 4.3 it's really harsh.
