There are some threads over there by some other folks who are having some problems as well and trying to find some answers. I hope you get to feeling better soon and figure out what's going on.

Sorry you're going through this after all this time! I am going to agree with a few of the other posters. It seems like you have a sensitivity -- maybe to pg? It has an extremely dehydrating effect on some. Cankers are a dead giveaway, the bumps around your mouth, being more prone to eye infections.. When you aren't properly hydrated, your eyes are drier, your mouth not as moist, skin is drier --What I'm saying is that you may be dehydrated to the point where it's affecting you physically -- have you tried cutting down on the pg levels in your juice? It may help.

I don't think anyone who posted is a doctor? It may be possible that either quitting smoking or vaping could change someone's immune system. I don't think the OP's question should cause anyone to be nasty or rude. I've been debating it myself, as per my earlier post. One of my ponderings has been that quitting smoking may be allowing infections an easier pathway via the respiratory system. Not necessary vaping (though it could be), but rather not having lungs filled with gunk.

On Christmas I had strep throat. I haven't had it in about 20 years so unfortunately I waited too long to see my doctor. By the time I realized what it was, I had to go to an urgent care. Last weekend I was very sick again. It is weird since I'm not around other people much.

We should be able to discuss our concerns with each other rationally. We don't know the long term effects yet. Of course we should also seek professional medical care, but I think its natural to suspect lifestyle changes may cause health problems, and to ask others if they are having similar issues.

Anyone who says vaping is 100% good on a persons health, is delusional. Better alternative than smoking? That I would agree with. Pumping tons of vapor into your body isn't healthy. Atleast in my opinion it isn't. Cloud chuckerz will disagree, I'm sure.

With that being said, I've never been sick from vaping in 5 years. In fact, I feel 20x better than I ever did smoking.

If you think vaping is causing problems, maybe it's time to call it quits for good. Either that, or toss the istick and get a ProVari and start hanging with the cool kids.

Thanks for reading. Just wanted to share my experience, and maybe put a stop to these people that are absolutely convinced that vaping is completely safe somehow. I know most of the community isn't ignorant enough to make such statements without long term studies to back it, but I've read some of the threads about people openly vaping in supermarkets, disregarding the health of others, and feeling that they are somehow entitled to do it, that just annoy the crap outta me.

Maybe I'm an isolated case, but there are people like me out there.

Most people don't believe vaping is completely safe. I vape because I was developing COPD after 37 years of smoking. My doctor is happy with the change in my lungs after three years of vaping. I used to get around four colds a year and a couple of flu's. Now I get around two colds and one bout with the flu, both of which I get over significantly faster and with fewer complications. I have not had any skin issues since I switched. I found the nicotine in vapor a bit harsh on my throat when I started vaping at 18 mg/ml, but I mostly vape no-nic juices these days and when I sometimes vape a bit of nic the dose is so low it doesn't bother me at all. I've also cut back on how often I vape. All in all, switching to vaping has been a very good experience for me so far.

It doesn't go so smoothly for everyone. Some people have reactions to PG, VG, certain flavorings, wire materials or some nicotine bases. In a few cases those reactions have been serious, but I know of no-one who has experienced anaphylactic shock from vaping, unlike from things like peanuts, shellfish, bee stings, medicines, etc.

I'm not aware of anyone ever having a real reaction to second hand vapor, as opposed to shrinking away from it because they thought it was smoke. SHV is very diluted and IMO extremely unlikely to cause anyone any health issues.

If I were having the difficulties you are now and felt vaping was causing the problems I would stop vaping for a month or three and see how things go. Also please talk things over with your doctors and see where that takes you. Just because vaping works for most of us, doesn't mean it will work for everyone. Almost nothing works well for everyone :)

Best of luck with it :thumb:

I've had the exact opposite experience. When I was smoking, I could get sick by dunking my pinky toe in cold water. I was sick at least once or twice a month while smoking. It was rare to go a month without something Now, I haven't been sick (besides one awful case of food poisoning) since I started vaping 2 years and 5 months ago...

Anyways, sorry all this is happening. I would venture to say it's more of an allergy than getting sick.

There has been some snark in this thread, but also some questions from people honestly trying to help. Has the OP been back? If so, I missed it.

Lessifer, the OP last accessed ECF yesterday (June 1) at 6:31 AM, so about 20 hours ago. Didn't post after the OP though. Sometimes they do come back and sometimes not. Time will tell :)

Thank you for not being as lazy as me :) I was eating.

Was just thinking that there was a lot of info in the OP, but most of the important vaping variables were missing. If the OP doesn't feel like stopping vaping is an option, without going back to smoking, then some suggestions could be made to possibly cut back on the vaping without too much distress. Or if it turns out that the OP vapes max VG, it's probably not a pg allergy, etc.

...And, please, don't quote me.

I quoted you because I thought it was a great post - from the heart in response to someone else going through some difficult times. If you delete your post, I will come back and delete the quote, but I think it's terrific. As someone who has had several melancholy periods in life, I can relate.

Also Tomb Raider...

EDIT - On second thoughts I deleted your quote as you specifically asked not to be quoted.

do I have the right to do things that pleasew me even if she refuses to take part?

Yes, you do. Have you both considered the possibility that your wife's constant disapproval of your way of life may be the root cause (or at least a contributing factor) to you chronic stress and depression? Have a chat with her--and good luck!

I don't know if the OP is getting sick because of vaping or if its just coincidence, but at this point its impossible to rule out.

It could very well be and, I think, very likely that there will be some segment of the population that will suffer negative health effects from it while the vast majority only see positive changes. There just isn't enough science done one way or the other.

My only suggestions are common sense ones. Try quitting outright any way possible. If cold turkey is an option, then do it, if toughing it out and incrementally dropping nic levels to zero then weaning off the hand to mouth action is what it takes, then do that. Maybe even look to something else.

If I honestly believed vaping was causing me health problems, I'd be looking for a way to get off of it in the most timely manner possible.
