i had my first post-pv smoke about two weeks after i started vaping full-time. like many of you, i was pretty disgusted by the taste and alarmed that this was the junk i'd been inhaling for so many years. i put the cigarette out almost immediately and went back to vaping, swearing never to smoke again.

then, a week or so later, a buddy offered me a cigarette. i took it. i guess i was a little curious about how i'd react this time. prior to vaping, i was a domestic smoker. not loyal to any specific brand, just whatever was on sale. i couldn't really taste the difference between different companies' cigarettes anyway.

so i took the cigarette, lit it, and began to smoke. it felt much smaller than i'd remembered. smaller than the 808's and 510's that i had grown accustomed to. i inhaled deeply and slowly, as i had learned to do with the e-cigs.

MY GOD.

I could TASTE it. it reminded me of the first time i'd ever smoked. it wasn't just hot air and bitterness. it was the truest cigarette i could remember having. it was tobacco burning and blanketing my tongue. i was actually, and for the first time in a long time, enjoying smoking.

i was pleasantly surprised. years of smoking had dulled my taste buds but vaping had restored them (and, oddly enough, had allowed me to enjoy the cigarette).

while i won't fully return to cigarettes, i do think i will smoke one from time to time, mainly for the nostalgia. but it will be a choice and not a necessity, a choice i thought would never be possible.

anyway, grats to all who have successfully quit smoking because of electric cigarettes. and thanks to all who have made it possible. while i can't fully join you in being smoke free, i do understand the burden that has been lifted from your shoulders.

Here's my current situation. Since Monday I've had the e-cig, and I've smoked 4 analogs since then. Previously I'd have smoked around half a pack a day if not more. But I still feel pretty guilty about those 4. I noticed they just didn't taste as good anymore, although I still enjoyed them greatly.

Here's the thing with the e-cig. When I have a random nicotine craving in which I'd normally smoke one of the day's many meaningless cigarettes, the e-cigarette does a great job. I get my fix and I can do it without even inconveniencing myself.

It's the actual ritualistic effect of cigarettes that makes me want one at those pivotal moments where I'd smoke one. Like having a beer at the end of the day, or relaxing in my backyard or barbequeing. It's those times where I don't just want nicotine, I crave the smoke, with the burning tobacco. And I know it's got to be purely psychological because I can sit and vape my e-cig for 20 minutes and even though I'm definitely buzzed off nicotine, I still want that real tobacco cig.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. On the plus side, I was sick with bronchitis for a month before I got the e-cig, and after having it since Monday, my sickness has completely gone away, along with nearly all of my sinus and allergy problems (which I've had for MONTHS). Even though I've smoked 4 cigs since then, my lungs feel so much better and I can breathe deeper. This is enough motivation to make me want to stop, because I want to be able to smell all those things I've been missing. The only thing is, I'm only in my 20s, so I don't know if I even did any major damage with cigarettes. I guess that's another contributing factor. I didn't really get a chance to smoke that long, so I guess I didn't really ever go through a phase like many of you where cigarettes finally become disgusting and tiresome. It was very much a part of my lifestyle in the social groups of adults my age. I can see how cigarettes become to be a huge pain after smoking ten years or more, but I only started a couple years ago. Smoking is still very prevalent for people in Los Angeles in their twenties.

If it means anything, my fear of getting cancer and doing real damage when I had my bronchitis led me to search for alternative ways of inhaling nicotine...which brought me to this forum and caused me to buy a 510 kit. So if anyone ever tries to doubt that this community and e-cigarettes really do save lives, consider that I've only been smoking for a couple years and the knowledge that is available here and on the internet is enough to get me to realize smoking just isn't worth it.

You had 4 cigs from Monday and you feel guilty? Man, what about the 36 or more that you DID NOT have? Congratulate yourself big time about those!

Go at your own pace. Some can stop analogs from day one, some can't. I happen to be in the latter group. I've been vaping for about 2 months and still not smoke free...but I know in my heart that it WILL happen.

If I feel like having an analog, I light one up without hesitation and without guilt, because I know the longer I stayed the course, the more I'd be in control.

As Ghost Song so aptly said in his earlier post: "...i do think i will smoke one from time to time, mainly for the nostalgia. but it will be a choice and not a necessity...."

So enjoy your vaping journey Grinch, and get rid of the guilt. You and I will both be in the Smokefree Club very soon!

I've been vaping for 3 weeks today. The first week I smoked 10 ultra lights a day along with vaping and the last 2 weeks I've been having 5 analogs a day. I never intended on quitting analogs cold turkey, but the gradual decline has been great. In the last 3 weeks, I HAVEN'T smoked 700 ANALOGS! I was burning up 2 packs a day and hating the cost.

It's great that I find analogs dry, tasteless, and largely unsatisfying, even though I want one after meals and before retiring for the night. The longer I vape, the less I want an analog and that's just fine with me.

If you want to read about the reason you still want that analog click below.

I don't know about your closing question. But, I am anything but sad that cigarettes no longer appeal to me! :)

A lot of us, myself included, have lit up after a period of being smoke free ... only to discover we didn't have to worry about going back to cigarettes because of the imagined deprived pleasure vs. the reality of what cigarettes actually taste like.

Be happy! You've discovered a less harmful, more tasty, alternative. :)

How true.............yuk, like many, I did try it, and it doesn't have the same taste or affect it once did. TASTED HORRIBLE. Tossed the entire .... out, and had to wash my mouth out. I'll stick with my vape stick.

Congrats on your progress!! As others have stated here take your time. It took me about 2 months to completely walk away from analogs. I experimented with various nic strengths and also with various mods and voltages, till I found what gave me that "hit" I wanted that would kill the "need" for a smoke. For me it was a homemade FogLog(18650 battery 3.7v) and 510 atty, vaping 36mg juice. I'm now down to about 20-25mg, but it took the higher nic to do the job for the month or so.

I also read and studied a lot on the "other chemicals" in cigarettes and found that if I was really coming unglued from stress or craving, that using the Java-flavored Stonewalls did the trick for me. They can be found at most discount tobacco shops around town. Cigarettes have more than 4000 chemicals and the theory is that you may actually be craving one of those besides just the nicotine. I also liked the Stonewalls vs the Snus as they are kinda like sucking on a throat lozenge as opposed to feeling like your actually dipping tobacco.

Just remember to be easy on yourself and don't force it. The mind is a tricky thing and if you're trying to force yourself to quit a serious addiction, your brain may rebel and make it harder.

Good luck and happy vaping!!

I've had my e-cig since Monday, a 510. It's great and for the first day I didn't smoke at all. I didn't smoke the next day either, but that night my friend offered me a cig. I had been craving a real one, and I was imagining that it was going to taste amazing and sweet like I remembered. But after smoking the e-cig for 2 days, I found it to be quite flavorless, almost boring, and I didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I also thought that I kind of missed the big vape clouds compared to my tiny cigarette drag.

Today I came home from work and e-cigged, but I still wanted a cigarette and again it just didn't taste as good as I remembered. It was just kind of bland, and the smoke felt awkward in my mouth for some reason.

I've just been e-cigging Vanilla flavor the rest of the day and I don't really feel like an analog cigarette at all now. Is this what people were talking about how you have to train your body to get used to a new form of nicotine intake?

you may be sad, but that makes me happy :toast:

Really near the mexican border.
I felt like you Grinch when I stopped analog smoking, but today it is with much pleasure that I don't smoke the "other" cigarette. I love vaping, when I used to smoke tobacco cigarettes I always used to think how wonderful it would be if I could find a really strong heavy flavored wintergreen cigarette, I even went so far as to roll my own and add wintergreen oil. But now I can vape and get that very strong Wintergreen flavor and herbal mix that I so longed for before, everyday. Even when I rolled my own it still had that nasty tobacco flavor, so I am so glad that I can go on 'smoking' without having to taste the tobacco. I really like vaping. I used to cough so hard in the morning after smoking the night before that I would have given anything to stop the coughing. Guess what? Smoke and Cough Free, now.

Im not sure about the HV atty. Ill know when stuff gets here. If not Ill have to wait till 20th (payday) Does it make that big a diff.? The reg attys work well too?

I get nothing from a regular atty at all, thought I blew it out with the 6v but it still worked on the 3.7 . I tried 2 regular atty's and nothing at 6 v. I tried a 510 carto and if i leave it too long it will burn. But if you do like a 2 second hit on a carto , holy cow there is vapor.

I smoked Camel and Marb for about a year. I saw a poster one day that listed EVERY single chemical added into cigarettes. It really upset me and I thought "Why can't I just get PLAIN tobacco with nothing added?"

That led me to smoking American Spirit for 8 years and I felt that it was a much safer alternative. I have just switched to vaporizing and have not even had a craving for regular tobacco since I got it working properly (2 weeks now).

Thankfully I got over my addiction of the chemical additives a long time ago. So vaporizing just seemed like the next step, and I'll never look back!

Actually, I smoked American Spirits too. Blues, then yellows I came to prefer. As with you, I tried Camel and Marlboro before but I heard how bad they were, and honestly they lasted like 5 minutes a smoke and tasted bad.

I think that, although American Spirits have no additives in them, they're still pretty addictive. A light American Spirit has more nicotine than a Marlboro Red, and I've read that a blue Spirit (full flavor) can have as much as 2mg of nicotine.

But that's also one of the problems. Before having American Spirits I smoked on and off, rarely buying packs. When I got into Camels and Marlboros I had to smoke a lot and it lost interest. I was ready to kick the habit, but once I started on the Spirits though, I started smoking way less cigarettes and genuinely enjoying every one. The tobacco is really good in those cigarettes, the flavor is excellent. In fact I truly enjoyed the tobacco so much in Natural American Spirits that I would treat myself to a pouch of roll your own once in a while, either Organic or my favorite, USA Grown. Both were excellent, and to be honest, smoking really good tobacco has the same appeal as smoking a cigar or something.

That's why I think I'm having trouble stopping. I'm still waiting for my flavors to come in, but I'm smoking around 2 analog Spirits per day now, give or take. Even after I vape a while, I get so tired of the vanilla and tobacco imitation liquids I have that I desperately want to taste real robust, natural tobacco. Those cigarettes are like little cigars, they last for 10 minutes or more. Smoking those cigarettes when I first started buying packs made it clear to me why people started smoking this stuff in the first place - it's sweet and delicious, robust with many bold undertones. Absolutely nothing like the crap they put in Philip Morris and RJ Reynolds sticks.
