Don't mean to derail the thread, but a quick question...I have the Mini with extension cap. Do I need 1 or 2 tatroe extensions to get it to 18650 mode? I'm thinking one...

Just one Tatroe ring and Provape's battery extension cap will allow the 18650 battery to be used.

Two Tatroe rings and the standard battery cap will also allow an 18650 battery.

1 base and 2 rings.

I never actually tried the extended cap with a tatroe ring.

I totally agree with the comments here. I've had my Provari 2.5 for around 3 weeks now after having used a Zmax for the last 2 months. You'll notice the "hit" on the Provari as soon as you inhale. Its...let me try to verbalize this. It's...a more refined vape than I was used to. My first day using I noticed I was getting more vapor than with the Zmax and also a very regulated, consistent vapor each time. It was just an all around smoother vaping experience for lack of a better word. I bought mine used in the classifieds and it already had the Hippo and Tatroe sleeve so I'm good to go now :) I will get the V3 when it comes out and relegate my v2.5 to a backup but I've had no problems with VV. I look at no charts and just adjust to my liking (the same thing I did when I had VW lol)

So today is three weeks off of analogs, and I'm thinking about getting a Provari when I hit 1 month.

CONGRATS to you!!!

I'm just entering my 3rd week. Started with an eGo, then a few days later the Sigelei Zmax....wishing I'd just started off with a Provari instead; contrary to what I see advised for new vapors. I'll have mine some time next week.

I love this thread, thanks to everyone who's contributed here. And, agreed about why new vaps are almost discouraged from getting the best straight away? Ive read a few testimonies where noobs started out with a provari and hadn't a single regret. I was encouraged to go the ego route, but I wish I'd have just gotten a provari to start. Im looking to buy one now, and without this thread I would've been lost. Now I just need to keep reading up on coil ohm and different variances to understand better how they will work in the provari.

This is one of those subjects that can swing in any direction. Many swear the ONLY way to start off is with an eGo type device and work your way up to a Provari (or any other high end device). While others say you should start with the Provari (or whatever high end device you have in mind) so that you'll actually save money in the long run.

In 3 weeks, starting with an eGo and working my way up, I've spent $400+ on vaping.......well actually 2 weeks. The 3rd week I didn't buy anything (that I can recall). Cigarettes in this same amount of time would've cost me about $120.

I say for anyone starting out, unless you know anyone personally who's a vapor....read read read!!! Watch those youtube vids.
In essence do your homework. In my case, I don't know any vapors other than myself so I did my homework. The hard part about turning to forums is it leaves one open to everyone's opinion which I found is one of the main reason this has initially cost me so much money.

I move the wattage on my VW devices no less often than I move the voltage on my VV's. If you can afford it, do it. You won't regret it.
I don't think he'll regret it either. I discovered adjusting to wattage or voltage isn't that serious for me. I hardly ever pay attention to them. I adjust to taste and leave it at that until I switch to a flavor that also needs to be adjusted. It's not a conscious thought in my head that I need 6 7 8 watts or anything like that.

I can partially explain why the Provari is often NOT recommended to new vapors. It's the Provari "fanboy stigma". Some Provari owners were (and still are) criticized by recommending such an expensive battery device to someone who doesn't even know if vaping will work for them. Spending over $200 for a Provari, batteries, and a charger in a new setup can be a big chunk of change, when you can get a great eGo Twist setup for under $100 and for almost all intentionss and purposes would work just as well for a beginning vapor.

Most of the detractors are people who have never owned a Provari, so their feelings are somewhat biased against the Provari to start with. However, I believe:

  • if a person is firmly commited to stop smoking using an high end vaping device...
  • has either put in the research, or come here and asked experienced owners if going straight to a Provari is a wise decision for them...
  • and can reasonably afford everything needed...
then I don't have a problem of them getting a Provari straight out of the gate.

The Tatroe Bases are nice and prevent one from knocking them over, which I did on a daily basis before I got some. I use the 2 rings on my mini to get the 18650 size quite often. I have a metallic bronze mini and the silver is a nice contrast.

And more expensive, is this:

Cingulum Compleo Set für ProVari Akkuträger - TrevVapor

Once I retrieve mine from the Post Office, I can make a comparision.

Not the best picture I ever took, but here it is for now:

cingulum.jpg

Left is a full size silver ProVari - brass ring and the brass bottom ring with a Tatroe Base. Right is a metallic Bronze mini with a brass ring and brass bottom cap.

Threads are awesome and I really like them. Only slight thing that bugs me is on the top ring, a bit of the silver shows from the top ring of the ProVari. It doesn't look right on the bronze ProVari, but on silver you don't notice it.

As with the Tatroe Base, I got an extra ring to use 2 on a mini to make it 18650. I will take some more pictures tomarrow after I recharge my camera battery.

What kind of a tank is your pink one?

Phiniac Phrostie is correct, and actually it's purple.

The other one is also a phiniac, with the purple anodized endcaps and the driptip that matches. It's hard to see but it's painted with the Chinese symbols for serenity.

Great post (as usual, Baditude). The only thing I can add is that I don't regret going the cigalike/eGo/vv route before buying my ProVari, because it makes me appreciate it all the more. I don't know if I would have appreciated it as much if I hadn't personally learned of the shortcomings of other devices (battery life, sturdiness/reliability, quality of construction, precision of voltage regulation, etc.). I spent more money in the long run, but I have a nice-sized stable of eGo batts to use as backups and/or to gift to new vapers.

Thanks! I was looking at Phiniacs earlier and am planning on ordering a couple. I was actually looking at the Phrosties too. Love them!
