Be carefull! This sucks the cart completely dry and burns the filling quickly.

Haven't found anything small enough for the 510 yet but the stir stick/tube I do have almost works too well in an 801. Sucked that thing dry in no time. Didn't know the penstyle would fog like it does now, almost scares me to think what'll happen in my 510

Also, the best I found was to hack off the end of the syringe I've been using to mix e-liquid with for the tube. No burnt plastic!
I was just eyeing my 18 gauge needles and wondered this very question, since the end is tapered like the straw in the OP.
I may try it if I go find a tool for cutting the needle. :p

The coffee stirrer works the best. NOT the one hole 'red' one (like opus used in the 901), but the tiny flat two hole model. It is perfect and you won't believe the difference! :)

Oh yeah KreeL, know exactly what you mean. But I' in one of those weird life spaces at the moment.

Ya know, flat 2-hole kind everywhere in creation when you could care less but none to be had when ya really want one.

waddja gonna do

I have a Pilot M401, but I'm in the market to get my hands on a manual 510 soon. After looking through the 510 threads, I ran across this and first thought "Man, it must be nice to have carts that big." I then decided to see how much space I had to work with in my M401 and wouldn't you know, one of the small single tube coffee straws fits! I trimmed her up and placed it in the cart after 4 drops of liquid. I then stuffed some poly fill in along the side, but I was careful to cut the straw short and pull some poly fill up over the top. I was then able to get about 6-8 more drops in before it was totally saturated. That’s about 10-12 drops for a tiny M401 cart. It works great! Maccar44, who works at the same office with me, also did it on a DSE901. Very versatile mod guys, thanks! You know it's easy when you can do it on break. :)
On a more M401 note: I have also noticed that by pushing the carts forward a bit in the mouth piece you inhibit juice from slipping out (unvaporized) and down the side of the cart, which results in leakage. Nobady enjoys that. By positioning the cart closer to the atty you vaporize all of the liquid and don't have to worry as much about overfilling, at least on this model.
Thus by improving the position and the pressure of the cart, you end up with perfect wicking and a lot of vapor. My M401 now puts out as much vapor as when I'm straight dripping. Though Maccar still has me beat on cart life, I've increased my carts to last around 45 minutes to an hour; which is awesome for these tiny little guys! Also I don't have to pull up the cart with a paper clip constantly anymore. For about a week this method has been leaving me with bone dry batting, and consistent vapor for about an hour. More should see and try this method.
:evil:I'm feeling like a vpe master now!

Well guys I think I need to tell you a little secret - size does matter.

Good news is in this case smaller is better.

I've been trying this "Holy Grail" of cart mods and wondered what else you all had been vaping because it just wasn't working. DH had brought home stir sticks from his work, and it just wasn't cutting it in my 510. (I didn't even bother modding his 901.) Anyway yesterday we stopped at Panera Bread, he went inside and I told him to grab some stir sticks from them. I was thinking they had the 2 hole kind but what he came back with may be the kind the 1st person who came up with this idea had been using. This stir stick diameter was so small a toothpick would not fit through the middle.

OMG this one is working great. The cart actually goes dry with this mod, I'm not having to constantly top off. The stir sticks my DH brought home from work, diameter wise measured about the same size as the inside of a bic pen, the ink tube, that is way to big apparently.

You really want something small, if it can't fit a toothpick through the middle then you have something there. It can be have 2 tubes or one but smaller is better in this case. I don't understand why the size matters but it really does.

thanks to the OP I must now admit this really does work. (after thinking you guys had lost a few marbles somewhere)

BTW no one go stealing all the Panera Bread stir sticks, I just need a to get a few more understand. LOL

Wow...a turbocharged 401! My eyes aren't good enough to see a 401 cart - let alone mod it...hehehe.

Yep, it takes damn near perfect vision and a handy-dandy paperclip tool, like the one Terraphon uses. When I first did it I almost needed one of those magnifying glasses on a swivel arm, like stamp collectors or a cartographer would use. Seriously though, when attempting this choose a room and a work area with good light. I use my spelunkers' head lamp.

Just got my Jeti 510 yesterday and tried this trick....WOW!!! It works real good. Kinda like putting dual exhaust on a car. It makes it be able to breathe LOTS better. Hardly no effort to get tons of vape. Now if only my Johnson Creek into pack would come I'd be in business.

Yes, this mod makes an already great 510 so much better! I just tried it tonight and I'm very impressed! Now if only this would become part of the standard cart design from the factory. As to your Johnson Creek order, this is how it works with them. Whether you are 200 miles away from them or 2000 miles, it will take at least 7 days for your juice to arrive. I don't complain though, because at least they are consistent! :)

Thank you!!! I haven't been able to find the 2 hole ones anywhere, and have only found the large single hole ones. I've been working with them, trying to flatten them out (pressing them in a book, etc) to see if they'd work. I've got a Panera bread 3 miles from me, so you KNOW where I'll be going for breakfast in the morning!!

Update - Panera (nor anyone else) had the small ones, but I found something great at Hobby Lobby called Pony Bead Lacing. It's REALLY teeny rubber tubing (small enough to slip a bead on). Gonna try it tonite. If it works I may attach it to the inside of the cart with a spot of glue, so it stays in place when I change the filler.
