So I recently decided to start making my own e liquid to save money, after researching and buying a bad type of liquid that was said to be safe from other posts, but was pointed out by another ECF member to not being safe, I been researching online trying to find threads, but haven't found anything listing what ingredients DIY people should never use. So I was hoping others can list what ingredients shouldn't be vaped.

What I found that shouldn't be used:

Diacetyl

Xanthan Gum and any type of gum

Oils

Sugars

Acids

Acetoin and Acetyl propionyl

I think you should vape them at least once to know them and be able to recognize them. :)

Caveat: You can vape most "essential oils." They're not actual oils, they're natural blends of the same molecules used for flavor.

Also, organic acids typically used in flavors should be fine as long as it's possible to volatilize them. I'm not sure why they wouldn't be other than concerns for the equipment. Most would be dosed in fairly low quantities.

Would Lorann Oils be something that should not be vaped? I bought honey and teaberry oils from them. If they are not good I'd like to know.

It was pointed out by another ECF member named rocketpuppy that when I purchased a bottle of Lorann's Coconut Emulsions, that it wasn't a good idea to vape it because it contained xanthan gum and pointed me into the direction of MSDS to learn the potential hazards, and I decided not to use it, since it may cause severe damage to the respiratory system.

That's if you inhale a bunch of the dry dust, which is completely different from vaping. I'd be highly surprised if xanthan gum did anything in a juice besides gunk up your coils.

so long as we don't count many essential oils (peppermint, anise, cinnamon, bergamont, etc.)

and so long as we allow reasonable concentrations of acid... malic acid (TFA Sour) is alright when not overdone, certain citric acids

I found the msds for the liquid, and it definitely cautioned against inhalation And yes, I'd stay away from inhaling the powder form too =)

Using oils in small quantities (since they're so potent) seem to be common, and during some research, essential oils have been used for centuries for inhalation and calming purposes. I haven't conducted any personal analysis, so this is not scientific data.

With that said, people commented that pg should be used in higher percentages when using oils to make it more soluble. Once again, I can't attest to how true this is.

If you're making a list of known toxins, essential oils nor acids should be on there. Vegetable oils, on the other hand...don't vape those.

Along with Diacetyl, acetyl propionyl and acetoin should be included, as well as colorings.
