So I felt quite adventurous and tried some builds again on Strata. The MattyB, meh. So I thought why not try duals like Cucco did.

I went for 1.0 to 1.5 ish. I took some 30 gauge kanthal and cut a bit over 4 inches. Figured that would leave enough room for legs etc, single wire, dual 4/5 wraps. Put my cotton gauze thru the coils and pulled it thru with wick tucked down into the well. Got some decent clouds going, but damn , my throat.. . I used no flavour , no nic VG. I took a few puffs, very sweet. Fiddled with the air flow. Got it going good, but my throat feels like when I used to go out with friends having a few drinks and would end up smoking almost 2 packs....

THat horrible next day with the sore throat, coughing like old trucker....... I dont know how else to "tone it down" oh and I used one of my usual drip tips and it got so hot.

I also have a very sore throat to after trying different setups with this. if someone tries the setups I have described they will be able to experience the same results as I have, It seems the only way to use this successfully is by using sub ohms. It would be nice if Dave would describe how the interaction with the cold and hot air works on this, He did say earlier on that He would give us a demonstration video showing its workings. Was this design ever tested out before he started the production line? IE prototype, To me the 360Degree air flow works great but I think his reasoning of air dynamics is wrong.

Found a set up I like :)
A few pages back, Iteo mentioned he thought his hydra coil would be a good candidate, so I tried it, and he was right. Put briefly, 26gauge 4 wraps around a needle x 3 (ie 3 nano coils consisting of 4 wraps each around a needle) and it's ohming out at .9. Verrrrrry nice. I'll probably try a dual hydra later tonight using 28gauge. Btw the same exact thing using 28gauge was coming in at 1.2-1.5 ohm range.

pictures are of the 28gauge set up and yes they are not pretty and yes my camera skills leave to be desired, but I'm happy now

Might you be able to post a couple of picks without the filler/wick? That may give a better indication as to what's going on in there.
I landed on a 28 guage dual horizontal coil with 2mm ekowool, with 6 wraps on each coil. My meter is broken, but it feels like around .6 ohms. I tuck the tails of the wick into the wells, using 2 individual pieces of ekowool, leaving (2)1" tails per wick in the well. Drip 15-17 drops of 6mg Boba's Bounty... Superb! I can vape for half an hour and when she runs dry, the wicks are totally dry. Nice!

edit: I was not naked during this build, pretty close though...

I will try more builds. I just wanted to start 'old school'. I would like to get a little more clouds. This build is good, but I would like to try for better. :)

I have to look back to see the builds people did, and pick one to try. I forget which one the orphion is. Stroke brain. :)

Since you're using rolled cotton....try packing the wells loosely with cotton til it is level with the edge....and your dual coils are just barely sitting just above it maybe about 1 mm (should be able to squeeze some in under your coils as they are...) but I'm finding having the wells full ups the vapor production...

I'm following http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...81422-introducing-precise-strata-rda-219.html (post #2190) by the way... it seems to be working really really well for me....

I'm putting rolled cotton loosely in the wells halfway...then building and attaching coils, adjusting them to follow the inner lip...wicking with rolled cotton...tucking tails...and then adding more cotton til the wells are flush...I am taking a very small piece of cotton and adding it between center post and coils...

Guess I set it up differently enough that I'll have to take some pictures later....

I have done set it up like this a few times playing with different wire guages and coil sizes to be confident enough to say that having the wells full makes a difference...

Has anyone used this wick material...If so how well does it work ?
READYxWICK™
Thanks

Yeah,

It's cured xc-116 (woven borosilicate glass with small amounts of Alumina). I didn't care for it at all. Maybe if you're into silica you might like it but man, when I was trying it out I built something kinda high for me , ~ 0.5. I was getting a very "dusty" flavor and after about 10 pulls my throat was super irritated.

Ive used it, though I did my own heating, not easy, but at the time it was not available re-primed. I thought it was okay, not bad, but not worth the price and hassle. Ekowool is similar in characteristics. I think that the one Xc...... it rather expensive at 8.00 a ft compared to aprx 1.60 a foot of Ekowool. I also noticed that the XC had more of a "taste" compared to Ekowool.

SOme people love the XC cord, but me , I need to watch every penny.

I also found it a bit dusty and had a sore throat. The people I knew who used it were really into TH, so maybe they didnt notice it.
