Just that medical "dressing gauze" Kendall? I think they go by dressing pads, or gauze. Its a loose weave. I think for buids like single coil or duals etc they work great, easy to thread thru the coil without blocking. I think it doesnt do well on coils like the Ophion or the MattyB, too loose. I need to get some cotton pads or balls for those.

So between you and me we could solve the mysteries of the universe. It *is* about the airflow, but they way you put it it's something about the Strata that *makes* you have to take a lung hit. I'm not so sure that could be true unless I have alligator skin in my throat. I rarely take direct lung hits and savor every slow moment as the vapor scrapes its way down, if I make it whiz right past I feel gypped. Do I have alligator skin or do I have the Strata set up in such a way as to not hurt me?

I think you've had it the longest, no? I've gone through roughly 12 coils so far, and have had fun trying everything I could. My personal (best) results have been with lower ohm coils for direct inhales...my ela had rarely been in 18650 mode until recently :) she looks pretty good that way. I'm gonna try the ophion coil the way you posted it though...my first (and only) attempt at one was free handing the "waves" and wasn't a good one.

That surely has something to do with it. I have to tell you, my experiences with the Strata during testing were erratic, some downright horrifying. My most horrifying were when I tried using coils that were precisely the same as the one I use in a Mark-T. It ...... me off that I couldn't do what I had always done. That's when I came unglued enough that the snorkwrap popped into my head. Never implemented it before the beta units were recalled, then spent a couple months ruminating. Essentially what is pleasing me right now are 1/2 snorkwraps.

Okay so I was going over my latest build and wondered why it was not as I calculated. I had taken a piece of 30g kanthal at 4.5 inches long and made a dual coil from one piece. I was calculating that they were 2 at 2ohms, but I calculated wrong. It came out at .7 ohms, which accounts for the heat, TH etc. I have to try again. I have to make 2 coils at 2.5 each to get what I want. No wonder it was so hot.

.7 ohms so hot. You are funny. :)

Hi Com76, Your order is coming up, and will ship by the 10th. We'll send you out a tracking number too.

Nice to have clarification David, thank you. Was not aware the ELA strata's were going out in waves, as i thought they were all finished. Another week or so is not that big of a deal considering the 5 months already gone. Thanks again for looking into it.

They are done being machined, but not being finished. The ELA Stratas are polished, each one chucked up individually and done :)

Since my Strata is in cue for shipping.. I have some EkoWool 2mm Silica Wick plus some made in Germany 3mm Silica Wick on order.
What type and gauge(s) of wire do I need to order? Will be building 1.0 ohm to 3.0 ohm coils....This rookie needs all the help and advice he can get...Thanks :)

Snork I still have that Odysseus ready wire that you suggested I buy from Clouds of Vapor (COV) 25 pieces. Does that stuff work well?

The ready wire will work, though I'd suggest using the smallest wick diameter you have and make the coil wide. Alternatively you could make dualies out of them.
I'm finding that 28, 29, and 30 gauge wire works well, and coils hovering around 1ohm work best for me. Some like it a lot lower. I can't comprehend a 3 ohm Strata coil, you will be a pioneer.

I switched to 26g Kanthal to accommodate the wraps of my dual coils. I normally use 24g on my KFLs. I would suppose, if you are running 1.0 ohms - 3.0 ohms, space will not be a problem.

I received my order for Koh Gen Do Pure Cotton today. I just did a build with it. It was a lot easier to work with, than my rolled cotton. I am detecting a taste. Hopefully, the taste will subside with a few more hits. I always boil my rolled cotton, to get rid of the taste. I am hoping to not have to boil this cotton. However, if I do have to, it will probably be easier to boil as well. So far, it is wicking well. At least, as good as my rolled. I will update later. Happy vaping! :)

Thanks Snork.. I have some 3.0 ohm coils that Hanna built for me. I am going to give them a try since I kick or use a regulated mod exclusively.. I also have a 0.8 coil ready to go, that I will use unregulated for comparison..
