I spent about $500 getting my Falcon pipes that I wanted when I started smoking a pipe. So far, I've spent less than $300 and I am pretty much done, save liquids. Pipe tobacoo cost me about $30.00/month. Currently, while I am looking for juice that I like, I budget $60.00/month which I am spending on one vendor at a time. I think that once I find juice I like and 'get into the vaping groove', the cost should be similar.

You and I have a lot in common...Vaping is more affordable than Pipes and we still have something in our hands at the end of the night. Show the mech guys a Dunhill and see the sticker shock! I used to smoke a lot of Latakia, so I used to chase away the cigar smokers at times. I have yet to find something like that in the Vaping world, but I don't think I need to anymore.

If you stick with vaping long term, you have to start saving money. Assuming you don't buy one of everything, whenever something new is released!! You will hit a point where you have enough in your stash to vape for months, years without buying anything.

I have old attys and cartos in my stash that are in the original package, and they were bought years ago. I DIY my juice and have enough high nic to make about 3,000 mL or more of juice. I can vape for years longer without buying another anything.

Starting out I budgeted myself to spending 1/2 of what I was spending on cigarettes, and was still able to build up an excess. Find what works for you, ignore new reviews and build a stock of what vapes for you.

For the time being, without excessive sin taxes we have on cigs, vaping has to be cheaper with only minimal restraint in "OHHH SHINEY" buying!! LOL

I am still in the red at 45 days but I think that I have found what will work for me now.

I bought a vision spinner right away and the larger spinner one week later because I quickly learned that I needed a backup. Last week I bought the mvp2 which between the three should hold me for a while.

The bulk of my expenses was trying to find the clearomizer or tank that I liked best. I have gone through ten different ones before discovering that carto tanks are what I like best.

Then there was the juice. I was buying from a local b&m since it was convenient and I was trying to figure out what I liked best. Now I have my two or three favorites that I have started to order online and are about half the cost.

I have donated most of the clearomizers that didn't work for me and the juice that I didn't like to my mother in law who is just starting down the vaping journey.

So in another 30 days or so I should be seeing a financial benefit.

It seems like just about everyone spends more than they did on cigarettes at first. Then the camps divide in two. One camp saves money, and one camp gets a new hobby. ;)
I think this says it all.

I'm in the place, right now, where I will be making a choice.

I have really good basic, non-APV, starter equipment: Kanger Evods and Mini Protanks on eGo-style batteries. Solid stuff. If I stick with this, and there's really no need to change, I can save oodles of money buying only juice and new heads (I can save even more money by rebuilding the heads myself).

But I gotta admit that I've got some "mod envy." I don't even think I need a "better vape," per se, I just think they're damn fine looking. And that might convince me to put some more money in. Call it shallow if you want, but I'm into visual aesthetics.

If I do make the latter choice, one of the factors in my decision will be "I didn't start vaping to save money. I started vaping to save my life. It's working, and if I splurge a little, my life is worth it." :)

So I can spend less this year on vaping than I would smoking, or I can spend more this year on vaping than I would on smoking. What the OP needs to know is this: that choice is up to me, up to each of us as vapers. If you want to spend less than on smoking, you can. If you want to spend more, you can, but you do not have to. :)

Since early July, I've probably spent +/- $500 on assorted hardware, and another $400 or so experimenting on juice flavors, which amounts to enough to last me another 6 months. Except for fresh cartos, I could go till next March without needing to get anything further, though I know I'll be ordering larger quantity bottles of juices I like for restock.

I'm comparing that to the $53 I used to spend every four days for a carton of cigarettes prior to 11 weeks ago. I probably hit my break-even point last week sometime.

Depending on where you live stinkies can be $13.00 per pack. So yeah vaping is cheaper.

I've found a cheap setup that I absolutely love, ego batts with kanger mini pro tank II. Got a few batts and more tanks on their way. I've got about 120 bux spent and that's including a bunch of juice.

Will I out grow this setup? Maybe, but even still if I compare 10 bux a day on stinkies or 50 per week on the gum it's still way cheaper.

There are other benefits too, with cool flavors I end up eating less.

I know I'm not going to be one of the "get a cheap kit that works and stick with it" crowd. I like toys and I check this forum daily, more than any other site that I frequent. Definitely have "mod envy". I've been on it a month and already spent ~$300.

HOWEVER, when I started vaping a month ago I was smoking ~2 packs a day at $5 a pack, which ends up close to $300 a month. After the initial investment on batteries and your PVs, your price drops quickly to just cost of juice and heads/materials, which seems pretty reasonable to me. Unless you like shiny things.

Let's just say that I've spent more than I'm comfortable disclosing on a public forum :p We'll just say that it's a lot more than I would have spent on cigarettes ;)

I think the savings question really depends on how you approach vaping. If you approach it with the mindset that good enough is all I need, then the savings can be substantial. A few eGo batteries, and some EVODs and you're set. Just replace coils and replenish juice. There are plenty of vapers that go this route and do wind up saving a LOT of money in the long run.

On the other hand, there are many vapers that have taken to approaching vaping as a hobby. This is where a vaper can wind up spending TONS of money. To be honest, I imagine that enthusiasts are disproportionately represented on the ecig forums--most of the people that wind up on forums either are or wind up becoming enthusiasts. At that point, it becomes like any other hobby--it has the potential to get really expensive if you let it. It all depends on how far down the rabbit hole you wind up wanting to go.

It's much cheaper than cigarettes as long as you don't go crazy buying every apv available. Research your purchases and diy your e-juice, you'll save lots.

Who cares, I don't smoke no more, that's why I got into the Vape World. Once you have your gear, the e-juice and wick material used to make a new build, then yes, it's less expensive to vape than smoke. But no matter how much I spend an rba's and a quality pvd, it's all going to be less than what the cost of continuing to use tobacco products day after day, month after month, year after year.... Not to mention the personal health benefit and taste and happiness that a good vape brings.

I've been vaping since August 2010 (started around February, August was my no cigs date) and now I spend maybe $40 a month on it. I know what works for me and I don't give a .... about having the latest and greatest thing. I did spend a lot getting to where I am now though. There's probably $500+ worth of vaping stuff sitting on my desk in front of me right now. I've easily spent a couple thousand in this endeavor.

I'd rather spend $6 a day on beer than cigarettes.

According to my calculations, using your consumption and price rate of smoking, so far you have hot spent $1046.75 on tobacco to date. After 4 months of not buying tobacco you'll of not spent $1590 so looks close to break even to me!!

I've spent a lot but it's because I like prettie's and to try all kinds of different tanks & batteries. It doesn't have to be expensive no ... start with what you want & stick with it & all you'll need is new heads & juice ;)

And welcome to ECF!

I can relate!

Yes it's cheaper, but I am the kind of guy that has a Provari (will have ) for each day of the week!

I am not bragging but hey I make good money, I save a lot, and I spend a lot.

Like my significant other says "you have to be happy, and if you died today all your money is worth nothing", so I enjoy life.

:toast:

BTW: I like your avatar, cute doggy
