Vapors in the tri-state Cincinnati area are fortunate to have an AltSmoke B&M and vapor lounge. The entire staff is extremely knowledgeable and experienced long-time vapors, even with rebuild-ables.

Funny, none of them are big fans of ECF for various reasons. I even interviewed for a part time position there myself. The staff treat me well when I visit, as I have known the owner for over a year and I send a lot of business their way. A lot of their customers tell them that Baditude from ECF recommended this or that, so the staff know me by both my real name and ECF user name.

Wow, people in Indiana go all the way to Eastgate for vape supplies? I'm sure I would have when I lived in Campbell CO, but after I moved out by the airport I only went there if I wanted to do interstate miles when riding.

BTW - Even before I noticed you were in Bungle territory I always thought of the UC "catitude" promotions. Do they still do that?

The Cincinnati AltSmoke has over 100 flavors from several different juice manufacturers to sample at their juice bar. It's also a great place to meet and chat with other vapors in the area. Plans are to have some organized vape meets there in the future. There were at least 150 vapors at their grand opening last month.

I know the UC 'catitude was promoted at least one or twice in the past. I haven't seen it promoted this year...yet. Go Cats! Go Bengals!

WHO DEY!

Yes, I still joke about them like they are still that 90's team but even then I tried to root for them.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised people would go that far to hang out with people they have something in common with. Rabbit Hash on Sunday's was always so packed with bikers you had to walk a long distance to get to the general store. Fun part of that - First weekend I had my motorcycle I just went for a ride on a Saturday morning into an area I hadn't explored yet. I saw a sign for Rabbit Hash and remembered someone told me I could get sasparilla there. I had to stop. A local walked up and mentioned it was early for the bikers to get there (9AM). I had no idea it was a biker hangout.

I miss Penn station and hoagies.

I don't really care when a vape shop clerk doesn't know about things they don't sell. It's when they don't have the answer for simple questions about products that they have displayed for sale. It's understandable that a new employee might not have a handle on every item, but when it's someone I saw there a month ago and they still don't know it's like "What kin are you to the owner bro?"...

There's an altsmoke in eastgate? About to turn my father in law onto vaping and he is close to there. Sounds like its a trusted store?

Thanks. I know it's a trusted vendor but not every store is staffed equally. I like McDonald's but there are some I would never go to again.

Having gone through the interview process there, I know the owner, store manager, and most of the current staff fairly well. All are extremely knowledgeable. They will ask questions of a potential new vapor, and help them choose which setup will be best for them as an individual. They will take the customer aside and show them several options and allow the customer try different setups out before they purchase one.

As we all know, finding a flavor you like is as important as the gear you choose. Having so many flavors available onsite to try makes finding one so much easier.

Thanks man. I have his gear for him but I think that would be a great place for him to try a bunch of good ones out.

Op sorry for hijacking, you can have it back now. :) :toast:

I wouldn't even mind someone not know their own stock - as long as they're honest about it.
I mean SOMEONE at the shop should know each product - but not every employee's gonna be a vape-master.

I think it would be fine for someone in a shop to say "You know what, I've only learned the EGO and Clearomizer stuff so far - let me get someone for you who understands the mod batteries". I'll gladly do business with someone who's up front about what they have and what they know - and what they don't have or don't know!

I do it all the time in business - tell a customer or prospective customer that I have to research or find an expert and come back to them with an answer. And I ALWAYS do. Even if the answer is "nope. can't do that." Get's respect, if not an order right then.

I don't really care when a vape shop clerk doesn't know about things they don't sell. It's when they don't have the answer for simple questions about products that they have displayed for sale. This is kind of a rant so I apologize.

I went into a local B&M today to get some holes in my IGO-W cap enlarged (from 1/16th to 3/32), because the vapor from my dual coil build was relatively hot. A friend of mine has the same build as me with 3/32 holes in the cap and he let me try it out last night. The larger holes completely solved my problem.

So one employee takes it to the back while I sit at the juice bar and try some flavors. He comes back out and says that the largest the had was 5/64, which I was ok with (1/64th of a difference is fine). He takes it back and drills it. The entire time he's working on my cap the rest of the staff is trying to convince me that larger holes will only make the vapor hotter.

Really? I thought it was common knowledge that larger holes cooled vapor? I get that increased air flow makes the coils hotter, producing more vapor. But the vapor itself has been cooled by larger holes in every one of my past RDAs. And there were 3 employees telling me this. This is their job.

The week before that I went in to another location for a new battery. I asked if they had AW18650s, the guy pulled out an AW 18650 and a generic ICR18650. The AW was actually cheaper, so he was trying to convince me to get the generic ICR. He tried to sell me on it by saying, and I quote, "This one is cheaper, but its way worth it because this one puts out more mAh."

...:?:

The AW was rated at 2000mAh and the ICR was at 2600mAh. At this point I could have brought up what mAh actually meant, gone into detail about safe chemistry, and the C rating of the batteries he was showing me. But I chose to feign ignorance to save him the embarrassment. He also saw that I was using a mech mod and still pursued selling me the unprotected ICR. That's just unsafe. I did end up writing to the stores customer service e-mail about it later, though. I felt they should be aware.

Am I just having bad luck here with B&M employees? Does anyone else run into this issue with local vape stores? It seems like most of them know the names of current trending mods, how to build, and which flavors taste the best, but not much else when it comes to technicalities.

I understand that the demand for vape store employees sprung up rather quickly. Many locations probably didn't have time to field test their new hires. I'm just saying that its the the responsibility of the B&M operator to ensure that his staff is properly trained and educated. Especially when dealing with unprotected batteries. And I don't really see much of that in my local shops.

/rant

The B&M I go to here in Indy has a blonde that works there. She is more knowledgeable about the products, batteries and juices than the actual owner, HOWEVER she has a problem processing this to her customers. What is the problem? Her delivery. Depending on her mood will depend on if she talks to you like your stupid. Luckily I caught her on a good day when I asked her about putting a 3000mAh battery in My Evic. She was also very nice when she told me to make sure that my Evic was up to date and told me that if it wasn't that I can update it using my computer. But like I said it all depends in what mood you catch her in... If I walk in and I hear her talking to a customer like he has no sense, I just turn around and walk out and go back the next day IF I have the juice to allow me to do that.
